Great video! @KRTLyfe How is it holding? How much have the rear springs settled since installation?
@Shownup007 Жыл бұрын
@@Pwofese my 470 after completion of the spring install doesn’t look overly jacked up in the rear. Bearing in mind I did not install the pucks that are to help anchor the base of the spring and do raise the vehicle more. The springs if they did settle it was negligible and haven’t noticed a difference. The ride is excellent and although I don’t drive off road I have and do push the limits of the springs over speed bumps and transitions in road surfaces with no adverse effects. Love this vehicle if I could just get the AC blowing cold 🥵

This is a good video. I'm a KZbin DIY video junkie and this is one of the best most descriptive videos I have ever seen. All done in a way that real people that don't have a million dollar garage (like me). The part I liked most was the attention you paid to the spring perches, and even the hole left inside... For most GX owners, the bumped from behind feeling at red lights is the Driveshaft needing to be greased. The permanent fix is to replace the driveshaft to the newer version but greasing the joint with the extension slide does the trick for a few months.

I replaced my shocks first then went with the spring conversion at a later date. I was able to install the springs by removing the bottom shock bolts on both sides. I then had a helper step on the side I needed clearance on to insert the spring And it was just enough clearance to pop it in. This is of course with standard mounting hardware, not the base parts that were used on this build.

Its’s been a while since we removed the bags and installed springs on our GX470. Here is a quick update! The springs are holding up great and all tho they have settled in, the rear of the GX is slightly higher than the front. This isn’t a deal breaker to me but if you are super detail oriented this might annoy you. The ride is great! We would never want to put bags back on our car. We have logged a few thousand miles now and we have no regrets about removing the air bag system. On road and off road these springs should serve you well, unless you plan to do some extreme off-roading / over-landing. If you do plan on doing a heavy duty over-landing build , only then would I suggest you look into stiffer springs. The extra weight of a RTT and storage system in the back could make your GX bottom out on challenging roads / terrain Hope this update helps anyone looking to do this modification. You can do it!

Nice video thanks for posting! The feeling of getting hit from behind is from the yoke of the rear driveshaft. I got the new driveshaft (Lexus said they’ve redesigned it like 10 times for this vehicle) and the car drives like a new Lexus fresh off the lot.

Thank you for your comment and watching our video. So I've read countless threads on I8mud, the Lexus and Toyota forums, reddit etc about this knock. I was going to go in that direction and get the drive shaft and bearings etc changed. My GX was doing it really bad at every single stop light some times multiple times. Since I've changed my suspension it hasn't done it a single time. It's been several months now of daily driving and multiple road trips to the mountains in our GX. We haven't had one bump since. Maybe there are multiple causes. If it resurfaces I will make sure everyone knows and I will make a vlog about it. Thank you again for your contribution!

@TickleFingers4 жыл бұрын
That "bump" sensation you're describing is common on 4th gen 4Runner and 1st Gen GX470 120 platform. It's the drive shaft slip yoke. It needs to be greased. When you stop the axle and suspension load up against the yoke. When you release the brake or the yoke gets enough tension and then releases, you get the clunk or bump sensation. It's coming through the driveline. There are zerks to lube the driveshafts and there are many different arguments on what type of grease should be used for specific zerks. Go by the manufacturers recommended grease types of read up on what people are using to help stop their clunks.
@KRTLyfe4 жыл бұрын
Tickle Fingers yeah I read all that on the forums etc before I changed my bags out. A lot of people seemed to say the bump came back after greasing. Immediately after changing to springs ours hasn’t done it not once. Which leads me to believe the bump was coming from the vehicle trying to correct its ride height, since my driver side was leaking so bad mine was doing it at every stop. Literally hasn’t done it a single time since swapping to springs. I wonder if any of those others experiencing the clunk were on bags or springs? If mine comes back I will definitely let you know but so far it’s been clunk free! 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾💯

Added this to the strut master video, which I used in addition to yours. Thanks for the help on pulling fuses. A couple of points: the existing strut nuts should be soaked as early in advance with PB. Having a strap wrench was mandatory to remove the existing struts. Extra information about getting the compressed springs into place with spring compressors on them, and in an orientation where you can remove them after they’re in place would have been very helpful. I started around 9am and finished this job at 7pm - if you’re not solid with doing car work, find a mechanic in advance that will install parts they didn’t supply. I could only find one Toy-Lexus mechanic in Denver Colorado who would install and he was booked out for 3 weeks. Decided to do it myself with a buddy. Love the ride, it feels like a massive improvement, but the instructions seemed to gloss over some of the hardest items.

Couldn't quite understand if the spring were just better because you were comparing them to your broken air shocks, or were you saying that it actually feels better than properly working air shocks?
@timesofyourlife1 Жыл бұрын
Excellent video, question , do you have to replace the shocks? I have seen kits with just the springs and some with the springs and some with springs and shocks? Thanks!
@KRTLyfe Жыл бұрын
I didn’t, you don’t have to unless your shocks have gone bad.
@timesofyourlife1 Жыл бұрын
Ok thanks, some one recommended bilstein shocks. I got 250k and having the sagging in the back issues so I think it's the bags, I want to do a conversion to the springs and since you got to take the shocks off somewhat I figured I would just change out the shocks. @@KRTLyfe

Awesome video. I did the same thing and now my VSC and And traction lights are on when I pulled the fuse inside. Any advice?

Did you pull all the fuses and the correct fuses I believe there are 3 user the hood and one under the dash. Hope this helps.

Great video! My airbags also failed and had a buddy replace them with coils and new shocks. I don’t think he pulled the fuses because my ABS, VSC TRAC, and VSC OFF lights are on my instrument cluster. Is it normal for these lights to be on if the fuses are not pulled? If I removed the exact same fuses, should these lights go off? Will the ABS and VSC still work after pulling the fuses? Sorry for the many questions but I would greatly appreciate your feedback.
@KRTLyfe3 жыл бұрын
There are a few write ups on this topic on IH8MUD that can probably give youI more information on which fuses to pull. If you have the same year GX as mine pulling the same fuses I pulled might work for you. Ive been told by various GX enthusiasts that some years are slightly different. In your situation I would definitely reference I8MUD.

@jerridhiggins41484 жыл бұрын
One other thing. Since you're removing the control for the shocks (i.e., comfort to sport dial), should we make sure that it's in the setting that we permanently want the truck to be in before disabling the dash lights? Or does the truck go to a specified shock setting once the controls are removed so it doesn't matter?
@KRTLyfe4 жыл бұрын
Jerrid Higgins I am not 100 percent sure. Honestly I couldn’t feel the difference in the settings. I would say set it to your preference to be on the safe side.

How much does it cost to lift a car by 1-2inches ? I have a 2006 highlander and I found some front and rear strut lift kit from eBay. I am just wondering can any mechanic just do the job because I have watched some videos on the process ..... you have to remove all 4 shocks ( the front ones by popping the hood ). So I am wondering how much they would charge me ?? The strut form eBay are 160$ front and about the same from the back

Thanks for this video bro, mine is totally bottomed out, I'm doing research bc I love how it looks on "HI" mode, sport level. Will this kit set the height to stock "normal" or will I get something on the HI note? There are people saying we can us FJ cruiser coil to get one more inch
