2014-2019 Lexus GX460 Headlamp conversion to 2021 Model PART 1

Okay guys, its been a long journey to finally get to this point. Not in a million years did i ever think i would be able to accomplish this due to the ridiculous price to upgrade these lights. I will not be including a link to where i purchased these lights due to the service and process i had to go through with the distributor of these lights. They're all over Ebay in countries such as China and Dubai. I will be offering to sell these on Ebay, Marketplace, and Offerup. once my shipment of lights arrive and they will be shipped out via FEDEX from the USA.
NEW UPDATE !!!
The harnesses that came with the Chinese set of lights must be used because the L-shaped LED inside the headlamps become switchback turn signals. Meaning, they stay white when you drive and flow orange when you signal. Your OEM bumper turn signals are no longer used. These will end up being either parking lights or an extra set of fog lights. I will end up doing another video for the new find. The new video will be called GX460 headlamp conversion Part 2.

Hey Freq. Unfortunately there are quite a few of us that are seeing a "Check Headlight system" message on our diagnostic screen. The vendor is sending out some decoder that is supposed to delete this. If you don't mind the message, then the lights are great, otherwise you'll see that error message for now.

Thank you for the inspiration, Bob! Today I did the same conversation! Tip for those who have Premium package and want to remove the bumper: unplug a water tube (the main one, located on the passenger side, and be ready to stop the water:)), fog light connectors and sensors/turn signals harness (biggest one, that Bob unplugged after removing the bumper) BEFORE removing the bumper. It’s super easy to do when all bumper’s bolts unscrewed and edges are opened, like Bob shows in this video. Thanks Bob, once again! Best GX channel!

The flickering is just frequency overlapping on the led and camera. It’s the same on any LED lights, as they all flicker, too fast that human eyes thought they don’t.

Hey Arfeen. I had a 2011 and decided to put in some cash to get the next generation (2014-2019) because of the hourglass front grill. If you decide to transform your 2012, you're going to be switching out quite a few expensive items. Hope your mod turns out great! Let me know if u have questions while doing it.

@@arfeenayube4224 The transformation is specifically plug and play for the 2014 and up since the outline of the headlamps, as well as the hourglass grill shape, is the same. If you have a 2012, you're going to have to buy a new bumper, paint the bumper oem paint, on top of the cost of the headlamps and new grill. I"ve never tried retrofitting a 2021 assembly onto a 2nd gen GX before so you might have to do your homework before you proceed. I know there are kits out there from China.

Great video. I’ve purchased a few China made lights and they always fit fine and the issue I get is with the internals for light adjusting. They either don’t work or don’t adjust enough to get a oem light pattern. Also I would recommend putting a clear vinyl wrap or ceramic coating on them while still new. Mine have always faded faster then oem.

The light flickering is most likely the refresh rate of your camera not being synced with the LED light. LED lights are typically around 120hz.

Great video! Two concerns I have had encountered with aftermarket headlamps are the condensation (which you have addressed with glue and sealant) and the quality of the headlight lens. OEM lens are usually thicker. I suggest applying PPF on the headlight lens to protect them from rock chips.

10:06 There is a black removable piece at the bottom of the headlights that is held in by two screws. It is best to remove it and place it on the new headlights. What good is a grille change when you can't go all the way? I recommend you get the grill and headlamps at the same time so you don't have to drop the bumper twice.

@@GXBOB I just spent all this time and money testing out and finding the best led turn signal bulb because I wanted to get rid of the orange hue the bulbs show when not on. Front and rear. Found some chrome plated led bulbs that are the cat's ass. Personally, I'm good with my turn signals as they are but I'm definitely interested in updating the headlamps if the price is right. How much are the 2020 Chinese headlamps?

My diagnostic screen came on saying to check my headlights. So i found out that i do need to use the harness that came with the box. See the new note in the body of my description page, it'll explain more. Your new turn signals will be part of your headlamp (The L shaped LED) .

They all get it from the same place. You'll be spending over $1100 and up and another few hundred for shipping.

@@johnrga Because the outline of these headlamp fitting to the bumper and hood are all the same from 2014 to 2021 including the brackets locations. You can even do the test yourself by going to your local Lexus dealer with a tape measure.

I"m holding off on selling them. AFter driving the vehicle, we are all getting a "check headlight system" reading on our diagnostic screen. We are waiting for a fix right now. Will show it in PART 2 of the video. Hopefully soon. Other than that, i'm just driving around with the "warning light" on. you realize the kit will not fit your generation right? Its for a 2014 and up. You need the hourglass looking grill to begin with. The older 2010 to 2013 has the older rectangular grill. I've known some people that switched out the entire bumper to do it but i have no info on that mod.

Nice, I might do this too. My only concern is that I see a lot of after market headlights have condensation issues after a couple of years.

Then be proactive and seal your headlamps prior to installation. Condensation happens because the rubber seal has a void. Take care of that void and you should have a long life of a good set of headlamps. I had this issue with other model cars such as HOnda Civics. Same thing. Seal all the rubber caps prior to installation and you're good.

Hey Cedar! Welcome to the GX channel. I"m sorry but the conversion starts with 2014 and up. Converting from a 2010 is more than just plug and play and requires extensive modifications. The car and lights are too new to be weathered for quite a long time. By that time, the car will most likely be sold.

Hi bob i ran into an issue while upgrading the 2021 headlights in 2012 gx460...my gx has halogen headlights so no big gray plug and the headlight i got from china has a plug which is plug n play with factory xenon...i have no idea what to do at this point...please help

Wow, you actually went for the entire conversion kit? Nice. You're going to have be patient and figure out which color wire does what and in which plug using a test probe, test light, ohm meter, etc.... Then you're going to have to figure out which prong lights up which light on the Chinese set. Its difficult to diagnose over the internet because a lot of what you're going to have to do is trial and error. Myself, i don't have a 2011-2013 GX460 currently to even do a test trial for you. Watch my part 2 . It pretty much explains why i chose not to promote my seller. If you go on club Lexus they’ll have better leads to find headlights that won’t cause error messages. Plug and play. A couple users to ask is Acrad and Hzao(i think that’s how u spell it)

Probably a cheaper route to make it look like a 2020 model but I'm not entirely sure the headlight performance is comparable to OEM.

Thats always the case no matter what it is. OEM is always better but the trade off is the price difference. As long as you have a solid background on the quality, function, and life of the aftermarket product and do a return on investment analysis, you can decide for yourself if saving a thousand here and there (if the car doesn't blow up because of it) is worth the price of sleeping uneasy at night. Thats what all the videos on youtube are for, folks doing the installations and walk thrus for you to make that decision for you. Not all aftermarkets are robust, of course. I"m having issues with an error message on my screen right now due to the lights and the supplier is sending me a bypass module but these are trials and error and having fun at the same time while doodling with our GX's.

Hey Sohaib. Soooooo i notice these aftermarket lights have a self auto-leveling system, which i was surprised. I drove the car at night and was very satisfied with the visibility it provided. I did not notice any type of AFS system. As far as AFS, i messaged the manufacturer and he will send out a decoder for me (whatever that means), I replied and asked what this decoder entails. More to come. Remember, this is all trial and error at this point. But i'm glad you brought up issues i didn't think about.

I refuse to share a link to these headlights. They are not plug and play. Unless you know electrical, it required modifications and an additional load resistor that only the seller provides. Problem is, he only provides it if you ask for it.

@@GXBOB Yes sir, the newer models they deleted the door mouldings. Looks really good in my opinion. Unfortunately the 2014-19 has the moulding but if you remove them there are mounting holes on the door panels where they clip in...

I can only confirm the fitment to a 2014 and up GX w/o changing out the front bumper (the outline of the bumper to the headlamps are different between generations). There are kits you can buy to change out your bumper completely to accommodate the upgraded lights but i would rather just fork out some cash and buy a2014 to start out with. Hey Big Red. The shape fits perfectly without modifying the body or bumper and so does the mounting bracket’s. As far as plug and play, i know the aftermarket 2020 headlight plugs fit. I have not tested the oem plugs.

Btw , I bought my lights from another source that claim they would be plug and play from eBay, Brand LST stay away from them guys . Maybe Bob can suggest his . But do not buy from LST. I also had the same problem. I had to get them to send me something called a decoder which actually worked but my relationship with them was pretty bad where i got my credit card involved to reverse the funds. I got headlamps with a complete refund if you document everything. I don’t deal with them at all. Only advice is pull your money back. They will eventually work with you if they find out you’re capable of reversing funds.

@@GXBOB Oh that was my initial thought as well . However because I bought them through eBay. I had to go though PayPal and they did not back me up. Tried a charge back with and discovery card and because the add said no returns . They were not able to complete the charge back . Just gave up . Kept them . The build quality is not even close your yours. Build quality just terrible . So I finally got them to work properly. All I need is to get the dash error removed . You think someone else sales that that decoder ? I tried a resistor I got from Amazon and it did now work. Maybe I connected it to the wrong cables How does it look ? Where do you connect it to ?

Sorry Pramod, i took so long to get back to you. Have you already viewed the Alpharex install video i made. There is a yellow Y-splitter that goes from your oem harness to your headlights and turn signals. Its hard to mix these up as they only go one way.

first of all, it won't fit unless you buy the entire front end kit. Secondly, if you get problems then all u need is to put in an inline resistor that will get rid of any trouble codes.

Hey Josh, yes i've seen it been done before. Not cheap by any means and its not plug and play like the 2014+. One question. I would like to connect my upgraded headlights turn signals but I didn’t receive any extra harnesses as you did. I contacted to that company (no answer yet), Bob do you know where can I buy it maybe OR where can I find at least a male plug to this female one on the headlight?

Artem, i do not know of anyone that sells those Y-connectors separately. It would be easier if you cut the wires and tap them in yourself. It will require a basic knowledge of electrical wiring. Just tap the bottom turn signals to one of the headlight wires that is supposedly the turn signals. I would first put power to each wire on the headlamp to figure out which wire is the turn signal first before tapping them to your bottom signals. Thats the route i would go.
