You get what you pay for. If you want it to last and it to be done right then you have to be willing to pay the price. It's soul destroying when you're trying to save money on a project by going with someone cheaper that isn't as good, only to have the same job get redone again in a few years time, which ends up costing more. Some will argue that if you don't have the extra money at the time to pay for the best what do you do? You shop around and make sure you visit their previous clients so you get an idea of what expect.

2 weeks to do, so assuming $1k per week per person, crew of 4 would be 8k alone before accounting for materials, crew of 6 would be 12k. I have no idea how much the materials themselves cost, but the sticker to do the logo is $1-2k, plus cost of paint. Some materials get crazy expensive, like I'm installing some funky elevator entry frames at the moment that cost ~$5k per entry just in materials, and we're doing about 500 of them in this building. For reference, this is basically $5k for a door frame, minus the door. Our cheapest ones are like $800 or so in materials for just a basic stainless steel.

thats cheap compared to replacing the gym sprung floor. It would have been like $130 000-$200 000 depending on the size of the floor.

How does paint in the center cost 5k?

You have to get vinyl graphics printed of the logos that you first have to stick to the gym floor perfectly straight. Depending on the logo, it can have different layers to it as well further complicating things. And on top of that it is incredibly difficult and stressful to get everything just right! The actual applying of the paint is pretty easy.
