15:14 Why was precipice blades super effective against vileplume?
@GymLeaderMatt1987 Жыл бұрын
In gen 1 it does it a lot. There's a priority list for moves so even if something is neutral it will say 'not very effective' or 'super effective' depending on the move used and the type of the Pokemon. It's the same reason Ice damage would say not very effective on Gyarados even though it's neutral damage. It's just text, it's neutral damage.

@GymLeaderMatt1987 Жыл бұрын
Well with Alakazam you got to consider that it’s not hindered by the slow leveling group. Having something with 100+ in the stats that matter that has a good leveling group is a huge reason why it is where it is. I'm in a conundrum. Figuring out how to code self debuffing moves has been a problem and I'm not sure when I'll get it right. There's nothing in the game that lowers your own stats so something like Dragon Descent will have to be different or just be on hold until I get that tech but I do need it for other runs.

For sure. There's like 85 of these runs that will be interesting. It's a bit overwhelming to do too much at once considering I want to do at least 1 Crystal run a month and I have a regular tier list to keep up with. Add in streaming to that and it's essentially another part time job on top of life/actual work.

@GymLeaderMatt1987 Жыл бұрын
No way. The vanilla game is fully intact. These runs follow rules though. There's no gen where it starts with those moves. I'll likely use gen 8 or 9 learnset for it but I need to develop some code to get the signature move to work correctly.

24:06 Don’t really need to slam other solo runners. When they do well, the algorithm recommends more Pokémon content, which is what your channel consists of and gets us to finding other runners. That is exactly how I came across your content is through watching JRose. Further, while yours is more data oriented and less about entertainment, JRose’s strength is strategy and telling a story of what the Pokémon *feels* like to solo run and how to make it consistent. Because it’s a story, it’s more narrative and less scientific. I’m so doing, the suspense and drama is what drives his content forward. Just my two cents.
@GymLeaderMatt1987Ай бұрын
Ha, Jrose in his 300k sub stratosphere has nothing to worry about. He inspired me to start doing it years ago. It was just a little tangent about something that personally takes me out of the video. If I could take it back, I probably would but it's a video going on 2 years old and it is what it is. Can't change it now! I wish the niche was doing well as it was. Sadly, he's been releasing like 5 videos for the first 11 months and then cashing in on the increased ad revenue in December for years now. Basically a few channels do well and everyone else that does this for a hobby just hope for some sort of scrap until they inevitably stop making content.
@reactivebrandon1360Ай бұрын
@ I get that, and I’m commenting here because I’m relatively new to your channel(I’ve been watching your content for about a month hence why I am on such an old video). My only point here is that within this market, there are niches. You wouldn’t say that an actor, who has read the script, is “disingenuous” for playing out the scene laid in front of them. Likewise, JRose, in this instance is trying to paint the picture as to what he experienced at the time of the run. It’s about the surprising revelations and trials you find along the way. In contrast to your content, you dive deep into the data, map out a route and attempt it a handful of times to optimize it. It’s about the mitigation of surprise. Both styles have their place. TL;DR, caught me off guard, didn’t like it, but I do love your content.

Appreciate it! Yea, you'll find several salty remarks over the years towards this or that thing but you can only live and learn. If I could do it over, I'd just focus on my stuff and have a little more positivity but I just gotta own it and learn from it!

My general rule is that Yellow is only a Pokemon's best game if they have a hard time with Brock but have a wide enough movepool to handle the tougher late game but Groudon doesn't need to lol. I can do all the games but I just like gen 1 in general but Yellow is in the minority for gen 1 for me.

It would be cool to see you give your rival a legendary
@GymLeaderMatt1987 Жыл бұрын
Maybe. The whole point is to keep the game vanilla to start to gather data to see not only how these runs stack up against the regular tier list, but against each other. Picking some random legendary each run not only adds a lot of extra coding and work, but it makes it hard to compare.

I hope you do Rayquaza next!
@GymLeaderMatt1987 Жыл бұрын
Next? Lmao. These take quite a while to do, even moreso with Ray. It needs some new code to get it's signature moves to be more like they are supposed to be. Outside of that, you have to make the sprites, modify the game code, add in new moves, get an overlay ready, and, even if everything goes perfectly, you still have to do several runs, record it, edit it, etc. I like playing Pokemon but I simply cannot dedicate that much time to a hobby. It'll likely be a month or more before we will see that one.

Glad groundon did well,super cool pocket monster. Always found it such a bummer there wasnt much to do with legendarys in game,so solo runs are a fun way to play around with them. Also I get the fake hype,its like acting and putting on a show of the run. Its kinda weird if you look at it para socially but it's really not much more different then other entertainment if you think about it. ~~also shiny hunters a built off it lol~~
@GymLeaderMatt1987 Жыл бұрын
For sure. There's a ton of Pokemon that this style gives you a chance to fully see their limits in a way and fully experience them. Tyranitar is next week in Crystal and that's one that you just got at the end of the game and used some but seeing it from the start is cool. As for comparing the fake hype, I see it as pandering. At that point it's like a pog champ emote or like a fake react video just wanting to pull in views. It's very disingenuous and if you are doing it on something that's already niche, I think it's just hurtful overall. Like who gets into that? The other stuff you mentioned are mainly just pandering to a younger/wider audience.
