In the AA at the Olympics Ray landed that second tumble so far outside the area that she had to crawl back in to continue with the routine. Maloney got a 9.5+ for her floor exercise in the same competition but the Americans weren't really contenders for any medals that year.

@lanpingpug Ray only landed outside in floor during the qualifications where she scored a 9.225. In the AA she scored a 9.537 on floor.

Wait a sec...I thought dive rolls were banned in women's gymnastics several years prior to this competition?

Lana2k6 not a simple dive roll, it was the 1 3/4 flipping roll out skills that the men were doing that was banned for the women...after the 2016 olympics those same roll out skills will be banned for the men

It's such a shame for Atler. I don't think she stayed in the sport for too much longer, did she? I saw she was on some sort of TV show about a therapy group as she was depressed.

It was very clear after this event that Ray, Maloney, Danchtzer, Chow, and White had made the team. It was a matter of choosing between Dawes, Atler, Beckerman, Schwikert, and Miller for the final spot and alternate spot. Here I thnk they erred. Atler should have on the team and Beckerman should have been 1st alternate before either Dawes or Schwikert. Beckerman was much better on beam than either Dawes or Schwikert, and just as good on bars as Dawes. None are useful for vault.

Atler couldn't handle the pressure though. How useful was she on vault when she changed vaults to a lower scoring fault when nervous?
