Yes it takes me sometimes so far away its hard to return. Nice to see that some people can enjoy a quiet moment with listening to and feeling a melody instead of having their nose glued to their IPad. Or communicating with text. Music is becoming a forgotten language. By the way nice photo.

Pier-Andrea Bascetto so true Mr Bascetto! No at all surprised to see a metal enthusiast checking out this video. In metal, brutal or melodic, the notes you don't play are just as important & sometimes more effective than the notes you do play. \m/

i was listening to this at 2 am and it turned out my teacher wanted me to write a paragraph at the end of my questions. i had no idea, and probably would've finished the rest of it faster if i knew i would have to do that. It was something stupid like "what color describes you" or something. anyway i was listening to this song, and i had a really deep thought. I used that deep thought to make an answer that was just as cumbersome to handle: No color describes me. Colors do not have meaning unless humans give them meaning. Without something for a color to symbolize, they are just pigment. Even with the symbols we give to colors are too vague to describe a human being’s personality. I can say I am red, and I am passionate about the things that I love. I can say I am blue, and that I am calm and introverted. These could both be true, and you would still not know a thing about my personality.. A mere color cannot be used to convey the complexity of someone’s character.

***** im pretty sure my teacher counted it as right, but she replied: "Perhaps the same could be argued about words. Words have no meaning unless humans give them meaning--I guess we could dismiss those, too." so I said: "I guess so. But just like trying to describe someone with color, one word can’t completely describe someone’s personality." and im not sure she saw it yet.

I have been listing to Gymnopedie for years. The Portuguese have a word that describes what a song like this makes you feel. Unfortunately I cant remember it. But it brings back a memory in time that was one of your happiest. One you know you can never go back to. Because of that no matter how beautiful the memory is it puts a sadness in your heart knowing you can never return to that time or recreate it. This song always brings me back to my most beautiful days and months I spent in Italy for a year with a man Ioved. Sadly he left me many years ago. But this song always fills me with those wonderful memories of young love in a beautiful forgien land. Haunting the memory might be......

I have a lot of song (and type of music from metal to classic) associated to memories. For me Debussy remind me of some kind of mental healing it brings me a few years ago. And Satie is the reminder of the end of the healing and how i met my girlfriend. Music is really important in our lives. Vive la musique! Longue vie à la musique!

Gymnopedie no. 1 ...she was walking through the early morning, the sun started to rise and peek through the trees, and the cool air flowed past us as we walked. She strayed ahead by a few steps. slight drops of rain kissed our heads.Time has brought us to this moment. That moment. That moment I knew that I would love this girl forever. Gymnopedie no. 2 ...we snuck into a small little coffee shop during that cold rainstorm. We bought our favorites, hot chocolate. It was late afternoon around 6. The lighting in the coffee shop was a dark hazel brown. We sat next to each other and talked about whatever came to our minds. There were times when we were just silent listening to the rain pit pat on the window and cars outside. We were happy just to be close to each other. The world seemed so distant and quiet, as we were sheltered from the cold, wet storm outside. Gymnopedie no. 3 ...driving home at this late hour makes me sleepy. She was fast asleep. Heater going, trying to keep her warm. The night lights flashed past us as we drove through the night. Gosh she looks so nice bundled under those blankets. No cars on the street. Maybe one or two pass by, but they disappear as soon as they show up. And it's just us in the night waiting for the sun to peek on the horizon. I will never forget this moment for eternity.

No never let go of that memory. Those special times we share with each other are so important. As we now share through texting and such. But you remember her next to you all bundled up and safe with you. No Technology needed. Just you and her. The sun rising and no words needed to be said. That's called feeling.... Mr. Satie can bring that out in us. Well those who wish to hear.....I mean really hear...........................

I am sitting on my front porch , it is Springtime April 30th , 6 in the afternoon. The traffic is gone , the birds greet me with their song. A gentle breeze goes by. The trees are budding , some already have their leaves. A quiet calm is in the air. The smell of fresh cut grass permeates the air. Thinking of my beloved who past away , and how much I loved her. The joy she brought me. So melancholy the song. Peaceful. Children in the distance , playing , enjoying life. All the lovely scents and looks of spring......so calm is my world right now... I feel , I can breathe , feeling the cool air enter my lungs , filling me with life giving oxygen..... So tranquil is this moment..... The song , so calming , so peaceful. I am at peace.... .

I don't know about you guys but I can't get enough of listening to this. I think that Eric is successful in capturing French essence (whatever that means) in this composition. I mean I've never been to France in my entire life (to European countries for that matter), but I swear, when I listen to this, I could imagine seeing people passing by while sitting at a cafe in a busy street in Paris accompanied by people's subdued chatter in the background. I don't know why. For me, this work of Eric is a masterpiece.

>knowing That's the part that depends on your mindset, and sets you up for misery. In the slightest way _in regards to what?_ Each love is unique in its own way. Saying that you won't find another one just like him or her might be true, but that doesn't mean that you can find another love that's just as valuable. Value is subjective, and views change. If you dare to.

These are great comments. So many visualizations come out from this piece. I have my own image I return to but have so enjoyed the other images and impressions conveyed here. They all speak of a deep truth. A yearning and love for peace which this music encapsultes. At my funeral I want this played to comfort all. I have listened for 40 years now to this peace. A large Cotswold stone room with a marble floor. High roofed with large open Georgian window. White translucent curtains gently billowing in the wind. French windows open to a sloping downward lawn that leads down to a wood. A warm May evening just before sunset. On the cool marble floor a woman dances alone. Dressed in a long white dress she elegantly and effortlessly dances in the rays of the setting sun. No sound except the rustle of her dress and the soft billowing of the curtains. A moment without ending. Without Saties music I would not have this image of serenity. What gratitude I owe to a man long gone.

I play "by ear" - I listen to music, or create my own, and then play it on the piano. Reading sheet music is a struggle for me - each and every note is a puzzle to stop and figure out, so I don't use sheet music very much. I found that watching your hands on the piano is very helpful for me, and I want more videos showing the pianist hands playing the keys. It's much easier to watch hands and then play than reading sheet music. Thanks!

This song is like life, a series of sadness, regret, the hope that there is something better in the future, a need to find meaning from all the trials of the past, the finding of true faith in a supreme being in the present. In other words it would make a beautiful last song for a funeral and the hereafter to come. Reply

From the looks of this song, it may be a great for a piano beginner like me! Looks simple and melodic, something that can easily be developed into muscle memory.

InfCommando be careful! I've listened to many interpretations and more than 90% of them has something missing which makes them unbearable. Satie's works may look and sound easy but trust me they're not

Erik Satie is my hero for this series and the following ones. I used to play it myself, reading the music(I never got to learn it properly) I broke my arm quite badly, although I could still play it, it hurts my arm, so this music I have mixed feelings. It is still beautiful, but makes me a little sad that I couldn't really continue to get better at the piano.

So haunting? I believe cause it reminds us of a beautiful time in our lives that has ended. Like a child that has grown looking back on some of his/hers best experiences with love and laughter.
