Neapolitan and Sicilian (Southern Italy's main local languages) are quite distinct from standard Italian (which stems from Florentine Renaissance language and only cultured Southern Italians speak as "main" language). Both have very strong Greek/Norman/French/Spanish influences. Sicilian also has some Arab influences because it was directly conrolled by Arabs for one century (unlike Naples which was controlled by Christian Byzantine Greeks during that period).

This was a win win situation for Masseria. If Rosetti took out Thompson, Lanksy, Rothstein etc then he had all the power, money, exports etc. He had undisputed power. He could then get rid of Rosetti himself. He let Rosetti take all the risks while he sat back and let Rosetti take down the mafia empire. However if Rosetti didn't succeed then as Masseria 'couldn't control him' then he was killed(Rosetti).

+Ouroboros612 Yes. Not only has he caused trouble in New Jersey that Joe doesn't want, by being absent as long as he has, he's lost a lot of his designated turf in New York, which is also Joe's turf, as Gyp is one of his capos, and thus has cost him a lot of money. For Masseria this was a smart move. If Gyp succeeded in taking over Atlantic City Masseria would then absorb the entire operation and subsequently all of the profit, which would take everything to a whole new level. If Gyp failed, Masseria could just use him as a scapegoat and simply cut his losses, which at worst would be a few dozen dead soldiers and a dead capo who he couldn't control anyway. Rosetti was like a rabid dog who he could either kill or unleash on his enemies to do his dirty work, then he could just kill Gyp later. The risk was well worth the reward for Joe the Boss.
