This is such a hilarious scene and not sure if its been mentioned but I think that this explains his masochistic tendencies. When it comes to business, he's a sadist and a f*cking lunatic. When it comes to getting down with the ladies, he likes being treated like sh*t. He has been dominated and undermined by his pretty much all-woman household and the only way he knows how to get off is by his extreme masochism. Excellent character study. The actor nailed this performance and I can see him taking on major, serious roles.

Boardwalk Empire was an outright masterpiece, & in my opinion, the 2nd most underrated/underappreciated series of all time, just half a step below The Leftovers, which was also an HBO original series. What made BE one of the all time greats was the absolutely incredible sets/costumes, outstanding actors/actresses from top to bottom, but most of all the writing. To call it intelligent would be an understatement.....it was nothing short of genius, which meant most of it ended up going over most ppls heads.

This is a great episode because we get to see the circumstances of how the characters are in their private lives, and it's especially apparent with Gyp. It's the ultra extreme version of when you find out the bully is being bullied at home.
