They see a brilliant dressage rider at the Olympics and they simply don't understand that the rider is actually working hard while making it look easy and that that's the whole point. They really think the rider is just sitting there and looking at the scenery! The only thing they have to compare it with is probably jockeys going all out at the finish or cowboys at a rodeo where it does look 'all action' so of course ordinary riding seems easy to them.

Some of my friends that have ridden are super annoying like this. I can't talk to horses around them because they always say, "It's so easy I rode and I figured it all out myself I don't know why you think it's so hard anyone could just get on and ride" and I've shown them videos, explained, and told them about my accidents and struggles, but they never understand. My friend who we'll call Ellie (not her real name for privacy,) came to a camp at my barn with me and she got to canter with vaulting gear on the horse only a couple days in. That was because she will probably never be able to go again due to the cost of the camp. The people doing the program fully paid the money for the camp because her family couldn't afford it, so he worked faster with her. Then there's my friend who we'll call Georgia. (also not her real name,) and she took vaulting for a couple years before moving to a new sport. She thinks it's easy too! then a girl I know from church also said it's easy, AND SHE RODE TOO!!! I only have two friends who I take lessons with in the summer who don't think that it's easy, and sometimes it makes me sad and feels like maybe they are just better riders than I am and that I shouldn't ride, but I've learned not to care what they think because I love horses and no one cane change that, so keep on riding everyone God bless you all!

Trust me, I know how this feels, I've been riding for 11 years (I'm 15 now) and I haven't jumped higher than cavaleti, but i work with green horses, which gives me so much joy and I learnt to not care about such things, because I love riding and horses. It's one of the best things that had happened to me.

@@the_ethical_horse_girl I can sort of relate, I dont train horses but I got a new pony that is only 8 and got broken at 6 so only been in work for 2 years so far ( not that new anymore I’ve had her for about 7 months now) anyway I bought her to start jumping higher courses because my main riding discipline is showjumping, anyway she is very spooky especially at showjumping fillas and oxers and the very first 60cm course I did on her she stopped at jump 4 and threw me of, that was in January anyway I have done a load of traing with her lots of jumping spooky things and like you said it’s so fun to watch them improve and get better and better, last weekend I did my first 70cm course with her and there was os many fillas and oxers and we ended up with only one stop which is a record so far and we even went clear in the 60cm class before, so happy with the improvement :)

Who ever said raidding is easy should never ever sit on a horse again. Ridding correctly is so damn hard! Working with your weight, guiding your horse throu your seat, keeping gentle touch... yes, its easy when you just bounce in saddle without a care how much will it hurt back of your horse. Non-equestrians must respect and acknowledge horse riding. I mean, we respect their passions, so why is it so hard to respect ours? The insulting and "riding isn't a sport blah blah blah" is wrong and rude. We respect your opinions, but you don't need to say in a nasty way. The reference to Raleigh Link practically made me fall off out of my chair laughing. Think that gal has good intentions but she definitely is way too young to think she has all the answers and is the ultimate authority on all things animal related. I will admit she is very good at promoting herself and I’m sure she will do well but she is not the savior of animals everywhere that she thinks she is. Just a tad too self absorbed for me. As a vet , I am intrigued by what she will do once she gets her vet degree. I was that judgmental bitch 30 plus years ago when I went from vet school where the animals we saw belonged to people who generally placed no limits on what they were willing to do to depressed southern IL where a lot of animals got very little care. Took me a couple years to get my bearings and realize that most people are doing the best they can with the resources they have and that as soon as they realize you are judging them it just makes advocating for the animal harder. One of your funniest videos yet! Keep me laughing.

We all have to start somewhere and it’s always wise to progress at a rate that builds confidence in you and your horse. I see so many people who try to do too much too soon and it can take a LONG time for both horse and rider to recover mentally and physically if things go south .
