I was at a concert of Tommy on the 19th of march 2019 in Luxor theater in Rotterdam. It was the third time i went to see his concert (I even meet and greeted him a few years earlier in Rijswijk-Netherlands) and noticed Tommy had a bad night. He even said on stage he had the feeling he played in a lounge en didn't feel the excitement. He also had a plaster (band-aid) on a finger on his right hand. But he played great songs and gave a great show. That's a true professional.

Tommy is absolutely an inspiration! I had the joy of seeing him perform last week at the Sheldon Theater in St. Louis. It was a birthday gift from my wife and included a meet & greet with the maestro. I still can't believe it! Tommy was awesome-- a true gentleman & zero arrogance. Can't wait to see him live again. If you, gentle reader, get a chance... just go! You'll see how it's done and why even two encores wasn't enough. This was the best concert of my life ... & I've seen many. 😎🎸👍

Two quick practice stories for ya. Oscar Peterson said, "if I don't practice for one day, I notice. If I don't practice for two days the critics notice. If I don't practice for three days the audience notices". And the great trumpet player Doc Severinsen was reported to spend EIGHT HOURS a day with the horn on his lips! Not counting performance time.

I know the story like this: 1 day, I notice, 2 days, my wife notices, and if I don't practice for 3 days, my neighbors notice :) Also didn't hear it for O. Peterson.

First sorry if i use a bad english, not a native speakere here, but i have to say that the real practice its really how you practice more than the hours you practice. When you train things like technical excersises on your instrument you can repeat it trough many hours, but things like learning new stuff or aplying new resources on playing needs a short period of time because the focus you have on it
@tomvaras54755 жыл бұрын
If you love music its easy to spend hourss playing, but practicing or learning involves a high mental demand, so you have to clear the difference between both

Tommy's worst day playing guitar, versus my best day, well, go see Tommy good people. I'm a songwriter first who gets around a little bit on the guitar, but man-o-man I marvel at these elite guitarist and how great they're able to play. Especially the acoustic players. Just them and their guitar. No mechanical gadgets to help them. Awesome!!!

Metronome, yes!! I'm so sick of hearing musicians, especially some drummers, that it stiffens the performance. Crap. He explains exactly how and why YOU keep the feel but the time is rock solid. But you can't manipulate time until you have mastered it.

It is so true what he says! of course we can play on virtuosity, (but not play in rhythm: (......a little bit shame) or when we cannot be abble to play fast (personally my play is quite slow), or when the song requires simple playing, I love to play on rhythm! It is very effective for giving interpretation, and having fun!
