Trey Canard is one of the nicest people I have ever met and of all of his amazing accomplishments during his career as a professional dirt bike racer, that might be the one thing that sticks out. Trey was one of the top dogs of the sport during my time in the US and I was track side for a lot of his career highs and lows. To finally get a chance to chat was a real treat.

Love Trey Canard and absolutely love his take on the 450s being too much. The vast majority of people have no business being anywhere near a 450, but their ego just keeps them from listening. The only reason I ride one is because I'm a bigger guy and the 450 lasts a lot longer between rebuilds for me. I also go to the sand dunes pretty often and that's the only place I use all the power of my bike. I'm honestly faster on a 250f but just don't have the budget for two bikes at a time. I breifly had an 06 yz125 and my lap times on it were nearly identical to the 450. The 450s are just so fast no one can use all of it.

everyone hated the FCR carb. amazed we werent able to come up with anything more reliable before moving to FI. apparently road racers love it.
@jonruger
@jonruger Жыл бұрын
@@microsoft790 had several early CRF450s and never experienced a bog on any of them. I never rode an early Honda 250f so I can’t speak on those I had an almost deadly bog on a few YZ400/426s though. I know for sure the early carb on those came straight from road racing and was really bad off-road. The appeal of the Hondas at the time was the carb and how they didn’t have the big issues and didn’t lose fuel on hill climbs like a Yamaha did.

I increased the idle speed on mine and got a carb gizmo and a few wings inside the Venturi and mine was Ok but it was a difficult problem to overcome. I heard that going smaller on the carb was the best answer but never tried that before I sold my bike.

Trey speakin facts. 450's should be tuned slower tbh. The mellow map is faster & more consistent. I was the guy that wanted a stupid fast 450 with crazy power. Eventually got one but after a few motos with it yeah I got it tuned for a more mellow map and its much better and more rideable . The hard hittin maps will wear you out no matter how fit you are.

What I need to know is if a current factory 250f is just as good or better as a factory 250 two stroke if one was built
@Wreckhouse69
@Wreckhouse69 Жыл бұрын
Is this even a question? A 250f is better by a lot
@jonruger
@jonruger Жыл бұрын
The last factory 2 strokes were all 50-55 HP with around 45PFT but only made that peak power fully revving and on the pipe. A factory 250f is slightly lower in HP maybe 42-48 HP but way broader power band to use and similar torque numbers as well. They race 250 2 strokes against 250f’s in Canada and Australia and the 250f’s still dominate.

@@jonruger Kaven Benoit was so dominate on his 250 2 stroke in Canada during the first year of the equal displacement rule that they changed it the next year so that if you rode a 2 stroke you had to run the stock engine
