It would be like asking a Shaolin monk to teach you how to stand on your head using one finger in a year. What James could do can't be "taught" and if it could, it would take years to master. It's not something that you just tell somebody how to do and it gets done in a few coaching sessions.

I've done a lot of Martial Arts over the years as well as Motocross. I've always had a belief, that the most talented competitors in any Sport are not the best Coaches. Because things that they can do, come naturally or in the moment, they can't explain or teach you, because they just do it, and can't always understand why you can't. The Best Coaches are the Guy's who maybe are top 10 guy's, that had to work their butts off to even get noticed. These guy's had to learn the hard way.
@lukekelly5115

Alot of the best competitors left it on the field with nothing to prove, thats why they don't push it in coaching. A guy that never achieved anything themselves still has a lot to prove.
@pv6304
@pv6304 2 жыл бұрын
@@lukekelly5115 I don't know about that, many top athletes I've met over the years in multiple of sports aren't always the best Coaches. Especially if they are extremely naturally talented. Because they can do things without thinking about it that many others just can't. It's almost freakish how they make something look so simple, yet only a very rare individual is capable of doing it. I've always found the guy's that had to really grind it out to get to the top, and go that extra mile, made the best Coaches. If you look at all the sports world wide today, many of the Top Coaches were not always the best player's. Don't get me wrong, they were bloody good, and probably made it to the top in their field, but they weren't the Best of the Best. They weren't a Ricky Carmichael or James Stewart, but more like a Michael Burn or a Ryan Huges etc.

Like I said theres no reason for them to explore trying to quantify or teach how they were so good.
@pv6304
@pv6304 2 жыл бұрын
@@lukekelly5115 I'll agree to Disagree, I'm not sure they can explain to someone else how or why they were so good, because it came naturally to them. Even a guy finishing 15th or 20th, leaves everything they have out on the track. There are 100 different things that can determine the gap from 1st to 20th. But even a guy who finishes 20th in a National or a GP is a badass on a bike. We are often talking about a 100th of a second here or there but if you have 15 corners, and just as many jumps if not more, that can very quickly add up to 1, 2 or even 3 seconds a lap. Likewise a simple suspension setting may cost 1 or 2 seconds a lap.
@spainobmxer69
@spainobmxer69 2 жыл бұрын
Can’t agree with you more, the best coach I ever had for BMX as a teenager was a guy that would make the A final at nationals a couple of times a season. He had next to no natural talent but he trained himself half to death and had to teach himself the techniques that the guys on the podium could do naturally. He could pick apart everyone’s technique and tell you what you need to do to improve. He would have a guy there that would podium every week with him but all he could do was show you how to do it, but the coach would be the one to tell you how to do it after you’d watched, and why? because the guy who podiumed week in week out could just do it and it was second nature, but he had no idea why he could do it but others couldn’t. The ones who have had to work for it always make the best coaches because they’ve either taught them self or had someone teach them and those lessons stay with you. The naturally talented guys just had to make sure they had a good diet and would ride once a week, maybe twice if it was the week before a big race.

In any sport. The best at it, sometimes are the worst coaches. Some people just can’t coach. It’s not a bad thing on them. I’ve experienced this in many sports, wrestling, fighting and bodybuilding. Sometimes these guys are so talented they skipped so many steps they don’t even realize it. Especially the top level. Some just make it look so easy. That they can’t break it down in steps for someone who doesn’t get it.

Cool to see you grown up Chase... You've worked so hard... Your style reminds me of KR & AC. Which is awesome! What James had in common with Jeremy is they both optimized their drive on the downsides and through the corner apex... But they would pump the track a lot like bmx racers... so if you ask me, your foundation is as solid as it gets... and now it comes down to percision and being in the kind of physical shape to literally pump the tracks the entire moto! You're definitely a Championship and podium contender! Don't let the mental side get to you... it's really not all that serious compared to the crazy world we're living... @@somerandomdude19 totally agree the problem is that those 250’s are tapped out trying to stay up in the tracks, we had so many guys get hurt casing jumps last season on the 250’s the key is going to be fluidity, Ferrandis and roczen ride a gear higher and ride the track incredibly smooth yet also on the edge, if they can both translate that to Supercross you’ll see some badass racing this season

natural talent can not be taught, thats what makes it natural. Also when you have natural talent and you do stuff second nature you dont know how or why you do it you just do it without thinking. I was a very good top tier skier at most mountains (not so top tier at pro events) early on i would get people asking me how to do all types flips and i would think your pretty good at skiing sure. they all ended up on their heads( I stopped telling people how to do them) Once your upside down 20 30 feet off the ground everything goes out the window and you need that natural talent to take over ( at least back then before foam pitts)

I kind of hate how a lot of these younger generation riders keep making jabs at the older gen guys like James or Ricky- saying "yeah, we're jumping stuff, or going faster and doing this different than what they were doing..." like, no..no you're not. If anything, I wish we could get a Stew or RC at their peak on their 2006 bikes and set-ups and match them against the dudes today. They could get a nice wake up call on how gnarly those dudes actually were. There's an old video from the 2007 season at Glen Helen where RV hits a 150ft jump doing like 70mph on a 250- someone filmed it from the side of the track and it's insane. Could the guys do it today? Maybe Sexton is one of these current guys the OGs talk about. Sexton seems to think he can be conservative and technique his way into a championship. Champs like Stewart ard telling him, "you already know all you need to about riding Sexton. Its time to sack up and take the podium. Fuckin fight for it. Be afraid and be willing to die for it."

That’s why trainers are trainers and athletes are athletes trainers can do amazing things but are too knowledgeable and this holds them back due to the battles of logic and reason taking place in a professional arena for example risk vs reward. An intelligent person will hard pass on high risk high reward situations out of pure logic and reason where an athlete will negate most of the time these factors and do what is necessary to inch out the edge even at the expense of their long term quality of life. 🤷🏻‍♂️

He is the fastest ever.... but that doesn't always translate to wins and titles. Now outdoors, ricky is still hands down the baddest dude to do it. 10 titles in a row 102 wins, insane. Supercross it's James as far as speed goes and second all time in wins, but he only has 2 titles and raced more years than ricky and he has 5, would be 6 if he didn't miss 04 with a knee injury. Ricky also knew how to come back and step it up to be able to be on par and push james into going faster than he was planning.. it's caused James to crash multiple times. As far as wins (150) and titles (15) I'd go with RC... when it comes to raw speed and ability in supercross, it's James all day long. But that style doesn't make for a lot of titles unfortunately.

@@yamahakid450f imo, when referencing the best to ever do it in any sport, championships and rings and records don't mean everything. Same idea... im talking about ability... and willingness to hang it out. RC is RC... no one can hate on that dude.... but championships aside... imo, js7 is the baddest to ever do it. Ferrandis, Tomac, Roczen, Cianciarulo and Barcia. Sexton is a 5th place rider. He might win a few races but he is no were near to the top guys. Chase is pure hype... He won his 250 titles because he had no competition. If Forkner would of stayed in 2 wheels Sexton wouldn't have any 250 titles. He won the easy coast while Ferrandis and Cianciarulo were battling and destroying the other coast. Sexton is slow if you compere him to the guys I mentioned. Ferrandis is just way to good for the USA. He wins this years supercross and maybe he wins motocross again.

@@mateonicholls7875 i’m not sure about AC and Barcia. Great riders, don’t get me wrong, but like you said about Chase they might podium or win a race or two, but I don’t think they will be in the title hunt for long. Also, not to mention you completely glossed over Webb, the current SX champ, and Marvin who skipped this past outdoors for a supercross only contract. Idk its such a deep field in the 450 class and with some of the too riders switching teams, Tomac, Anderson, Plessinger, and the new factory KTM bike for that whole team. Who knows how they will all do with new bikes. Its a tough toss up if you ask me🤷🏼‍♂️

@@adam_allday9470 How did I forget about Cooper Webb... So Sexton is way further than I thought. He is never winning Webb in supercross and I think he might win next year again. Damn so my predictions for 2022.. Webb SX champ. Ferrandis MX champ. Yeah, Im a Ferrandis fan his the best. Chase sucks, Tomac is an animal my fav USA rider. Roczen is a way to good but he always complains about something. Anderson is way to inmature and Barcia is just fun man... He is so cool to watch. Cianciarulo is so fckng fast he is always eating some dirt. because we all know Cianciarulo is the fastest of all. For real if AC had his bike on 2 wheels for both seasons he could win both. But we all know what happens to humpty dumpty.. he will always have a great fall.

@@mateonicholls7875 this season might be different for AC though. he got the surgery on his arm that had the nerve damage, so who knows how much of a difference it will make with him. its so tough to make a choice because literally everyone that has been mentioned here has at least a 250SX title and some with a 450SX title as well. I think the top 10 (maybe a few more) are all capable of winning races this year. it'll be interesting to see how the guys who switched bikes will perform though. that could play in favor of some of the guys that are running the same teams/bikes. I really wanna see Webb finally get his back to back 450SX titles. all I know is, its going to be a crazy season if everyone stays healthy
