Excellent, and even to those of us with a gyro licence this still proves there is always something we can still learn and share.....

Bro your work is becoming more and more indispensable as the days go by... here's why ... I plan to own and fly a Gyro soon (in a few years) I am from Mangaluru a small town in India ... used to fly Microlight Trikes for a long time ...and done some stupid stuff and done some good stuff ... So videos like this will help immensely when I finally make that trip to a Gyro Flying School and say hello to my instructor ... I will be remebering these visuals then. Just so you know I learnt to fly by myself ... now that is NOT a brag ... it was the situation back then ... it is what it is ... have flown about 600 hrs .. 51 now ...stopped flying about 8 years back ... started when 17 or something. So you may not realize how valuable your videos are ... apart from my eternal gratitude I can't offer anything more for now.

Thank you for the kind comments. It’s an impressive feat to teach yourself to fly and still be here! Today there are some good opportunities to get instruction and you are welcome to contact me anytime for advice and all happily for free. My advice with a gyroplane is don’t venture out alone. Take instruction. Good luck with you adventure.

There is no gyroplane recognition by DGCA. I have heard that they have just possibly started to accept BCAR Sec T but not confirmed. India is still stuck in red tape at the government. Be careful and do not try your hand at flying the gyroplane without training with an instructor

He is still learning how to land. Although he didn't trim, came in too fast or too high he did a good job by keeping the aircraft under control.

Well I was just surprised tbh as I wasn’t sure what the rational was - I suspect there was some thought to the quarry and trying to keep some height in case of engine failure?? But I think if that was the plan why not hold height until actually over the runway then do a vertical descent and land?? Seems they kind of had the bones of a plan but executed half of it as they got slow and the blast of power at the end was defiantly to cushion the landing. Ultimately I just think it was made harder work than it needed to be.

Pretty sure they’re practicing an engine out on this one. The engine is Cleary chopped before decent. Not sure if you should be reviewing this sort of content if you can’t pick that up.

Good vid, great analysis. I wish there was more gyro training available in the Midwest US. My CFI is one of so very few that he has a student who comes all the way in from Iowa (my flight club is located at KRAC) for training. Curiously, my CFI is a very competent tailwheel pilot, and he actually described flying our club gyro as very similar to flying his personal Aeronca Champ...any thoughts on that?
@gyrocopterflyingclub61484 жыл бұрын
It certainly takes some effort to learn to fly one! Yes similar in terms of selecting an attitude and allowing it to settle. I've no experience with a Champ but have flown a Piper Cub and used to own an aerobatic tailwheel called DR107 One design.

I take it the flight didn’t go well and you got berated by your instructor. It’s no worries man. We all screw up pretty bad. If you feel like it’s something you want to get back into the saddle of, consider looking for a new new airport and new instructor.

@pimuce3 жыл бұрын
But commentary not necessary for me thanks
@gyrocopterflyingclub61483 жыл бұрын
Hey Phill - The not trimming on finals draws in quite a lot of opinion which broadly divides along two lines. You sometimes hear fixed wing pilots claim they don't trim so that the aircraft will always fly 'nose down' so that it effectively defaults that way and avoids a stall. Which is kind of a little school boy - you could also just trim accurately, fly accurately and avoid arm ache and the potential to float forever. I guess these pilots also add 10knts to the book approach speed just to stay safe? But anyway thats one view. The other view is they fly a Magni and therefore you don't need to trim [see that exact view from Owen a current UK examiner/instructor]. Sadly this is also wrong. The reason this view exists is because the people who believe it fly around at the exact same airspeed. The fly circuits at 60mph, they fly upper air exercises at 60, they fly transits at 60. So yes for the few who fly at one speed you may not need to re-trim, but who does that???!!! Maybe its the fixed wing pilots from the first example?

Excellent ......👍👍👍👍👍
@owenbrooking70883 жыл бұрын
Hes in a magni, so he wouldn't need to re-trim for his approach Phil.
@gyrocopterflyingclub61483 жыл бұрын
Hello mate hope you’re well. Is the speed being flown consistent?
@gyrocopterflyingclub61483 жыл бұрын
So to be clear this is fundamentally wrong - unless you fly your entire circuit at one speed. Now I know that can be the form for some instructors, but it does not prepare the student well for life post his local flying and / or PPL. Indeed I had a student email me many months ago to question this trimming point - and he said he never needs to trim, but then it turns out he just flies everywhere at 60mph.... That is not the way to prepare the student IMO and whilst it might be considered OK to fly around a microlight or farm strip circuit at 60mph if you do that at many common GA destination airfields you become a danger. Take a look at the film of one of Andy Jones students who is on a XC flight to Gloucester - it becomes very clear that he is totally outside of his usual comfort of Chiltern Park and the airspeed is all over the place on final whilst the downwind speed is circa 90mph to fit in with traffic.
@gyrocopterflyingclub61483 жыл бұрын
Take a look at this film [Magni M16] kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z4Gcl4qbipxqqKM From around 57mins we are near the destination airfield and not only do we see plenty of trimming but there 'ain't no flying around at 60mph.....

I’ve learned from pilots, doctors, engineers that they think they are NEVER wrong. They also feel untouchable because they are stimulated by what they do each day and feel not like the rest of humanity. Only upon their deaths do they learn reality and while alive, they listen to no one and lack empathy for those they crush in their decision-making.
