Thank you for showing the folding mast. That’s the only way to have it fit in a standard garage. I had two gyros with short masts. Huge flaw. Still had a great time flying anyway.

@@jameswalker590 The propeller up top is powered by the air current and not the engine, and acts like a wing. So even if something happens to the engine or propeller in the back it can still glide. Apparently though (second hand information) they work differently than an actual aircraft in control and can crash if you nose dive too hard. The reason being that due to the physics of how it works it can slow down or stop the blades from spinning, which means you no longer have lift and you'll drop like a stone. If he was short of the runway then perhaps he came in at a bad angle like that.
@gyroaero6 ай бұрын
There can be numerous reasons but the most obvious one is the lack of experience and poor pilot training. A gyro is a very easy to fly craft but it does not mean you should not learn from an instructor. In all other aspects it is true to be one of the safiest aircrafts.
@DannyRivers-fw3ie4 ай бұрын
@jameswalker590 Two main types of accidents, rotor tail striking, bunting a power push over. Bunting is caused by a zero or negative G event, the rotor unloads, the engine thrust flips the aircraft, it's fatal, no recovery. It is my understanding you can also get additional fuselage drag that helps bunting from say a gust of wind at a bad time, nearing negative Gs. Here is a video, warning pilot didn't walk away. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eZfNc62oiKmljJIsi=aZTEY_T_lPKIcuIL Basically if you do a high energy maneuver, you can get into this roller coaster situation. That video looked to me as a mild maneuver. Very shocking the results. As you zoom down, pull up, at the top of the rollercoaster flight path, negative Gs. No expert here so don't take my advice on anything about autogryo. Decades ago I had looked at buying one, no thanks. My understanding at the point of losing rotor aka it's unloading, the thing to do is exactly opposite of fix wing where the nose is drop, power added. It seems in an autogryo it's get off the power immediately to reduce engine thrust, raise the nose to keep air under the rotor? Any autogryo instructors here? Answer best left to them.

Back in the 60’s in Popular Mechanic they sold kits. I knew a guy that built one with the help of his brother in law. They built the thing and proceeded to teach themselves to fly. They would get it up and follow a road, land at a gas station, refuel and return home. After a year they became too lax and had a few small crashes. They sold the motor and used the tubing for other projects. They both somehow lived to be in their 80’s and died of natural causes. Usually not the case when you teach yourself to fly. 😂

Would you be able to routinely and easily remove the blades to transport the GyroCopter by trailer ?
@omeobandit9928 Жыл бұрын
I bought it from a fella in the city and he used to trailer it and set up the blades every time he flew, and the trailer had a special pop up crane with winch for the blades. So it's possible. I've put blades on in the middle of the bush with my mate standing on the roof of the car parked next to the gyro holding one end. I've done it by myself in the hayshed one time but it wasn't very easy. Tbh it's annoying, I leave mine on and fly it everywhere, gyros don't like being on trailers

@omeobandit9928 Жыл бұрын
Don't worry about turbulence, the gyroplane can fly in rough weather, not like a light airplane 😁🤙
@seikibrian8641 Жыл бұрын
"So like a wing there's turbulence to consider" The rotor IS a wing; a rotating wing. It rotates so fast that it effectively becomes a disk, and the disc loading is enough higher than the wing loading of most light aircraft that it handles turbulence much better. Rotorcraft, whether helicopter or gyroplane, handle turbulence very well.
@MahaBali7975 Жыл бұрын
But I heard tail winds are danger for rotors, it kills the rotor speed to zero and if you are at low height, it will be difficult to gain airspeed to gain desired rotor rpm😮😮😮
@Airon79 Жыл бұрын
The internet says the rotors aren't driven but this one and many more have a ring gear that rotates with rotor shaft so does the rotor shaft spin a dynamo/alternator to supply electrical power to the aircraft , since everyone says the rotors are free spinning . Actually watched similar gyros and those blades , really do start spinning really fast before they takeoff .
@energycantbedestroyeditcan7671 Жыл бұрын
@@Airon79 Yes they do, it's powered, but after take off the top propeller, if you will, provides lift, while the horizontal propeller provides thrust against the top blades which if you notice in flight are tilted up more than a helicopter.

@@omeobandit9928 My mistake obviously. I did not look at the hub. I am building a Parsons Trainer ( two place tandem) with a Lycoming 0320. I have raised the CG to “match” the thrust line. In the process of building a composite fuselage/ cowling to cover the bare square tubing frame. The drag as you say is terrible and I hope with wheel pants and some aerodynamic treatment of whatever flat surfaces presented to the wind, I get a 70 mph cruise at 2200 RPM. This build is a beast and it is what it is. Aircraft prices are outrageous and it seems a rich man’s game now. I am so proud of you and impressed upon your completion.
