I repeat the "MOST GANGSTER" non gangster rapper. I.e. although gza isn't coming straight out of Compton his style, knowledge, legacy, ryhmes, flow, relevance etc is beyond most other rappers capabilities gza paints a picture but also makes your head knock. One of the best from one of the best groups gza don't have to rap about guns and all that bull but when hes talking you know your not fucking with him. Think that explains it.

I remember when this dropped on BET 106 & Park as "New Joint" for the day when I lived in Jamaica...the crowd wasn't feeling it that much because at this point the masses were too stuck on Ja Rule/Ashanti R&B or Southern shit...to me, it was a sign of the times that conscious rap was starting to fade out in the commercial scene...this and Skillz by Gang Starr...then it went downhill to what we have today

Love seeing Ghost and Meth repping for the god GZA. I just watched a 2018 interview Ghost did on the No Jumper KZbin channel and he gave mad respect to GZA, now I see why. A lot of people didn't give props to Beneath the Surface but he was at his peak lyrically and this is just one example.

It's strictly a NYC old school term that most people today in NYC hardly use anymore. I still & always will use the term. The universal term today is gangsta or thug thanks to Pac.
