Man… This dropped in November 2000. I was 11. The beat, the verses by Mos and Pharaoh captivated me. The hook became unforgettable. I had this burned on CD and loved this song so much as a kid. Jamming to this on the bus On my way To school. Immediate fan of Nate Dogg, Mos Def and Pharoah thanks to this… aired on either vH1 or The Box. I’m 35 now… still here for it in 2024. One of the greatest rap songs ever especially in this era of the early 2000s. RIP Nate Dogg ❤

I’m in my early forties and this song will always be in my top 10 greatest hip hop songs of all time. ALL TIME!!! Younger folks just don’t understand how HUGE this song was when it graced the airwaves. East coast verbal voracity with West Coast swag and style. This song was and still is an absolute gem. Impeccably well written in every aspect. Pure hip hop alchemy.
@dawb86 Жыл бұрын
I JUST realized for the first time some of the west coast heavyweight lyricists of that era made cameo appearances in this video. (Ras Kass, Saafir) This track can almost bring a tear to my eye because at the time it almost seemed like the alternative/underground scene was going to be able to go heads up against the mainstream rap of the day and overtake it in terms of popularity. It didn’t but still, what a time it was to be alive.....
@Mario-Chunks Жыл бұрын
@@dawb86 I feel you 1000 percent. This song here should be considered hip hop royalty. Untouchable. I get a lil emotional too when I soak in the weight of this masterpiece. Most of the good new rap is from underground artists. Don't know exactly when the game flipped from having lots of great lyricists in the mainstream scene to what it is now. The old artists are still making music, it's just not given the same attention as the new shit because it's exactly not that. Record labels are giving preference to the crap artists that make ringtone raps and club bangers because that's what the rest of the dumb millenials like. There are some of us though that still hold it down for the real talent though, you just have to look for it. Go check out A-F-R-O. He's an upcoming artist with an old school style that's about to blow up! Can't wait for his album to drop. Just look up "Code 289."

@@blackworldonline hm, from a technical perspective perhaps but pharaohe has the advantage of having all those great artists that he could learn from that came before him during the golden era, while rakim was one of the first ones to put lyrical rappers on the map like that. Can't compare the two basically Overall body of work and cultural impact he's not touching rakim
