How close is the Gaza war to ending? “Nowhere” says Pulitzer-prize winning author and New York Times columnist Thomas L. Friedman. In a wide-ranging interview with Ian Bremmer on GZERO World, Friedman games out a possible resolution to the war (as far-fetched as it may seem right now) and explains why both Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and Hamas are obstacles to peace. Key to understanding this, Friedman says, is grasping the “codependency” that Netanyahu and Hamas share.
"Netanyahu always understood that... having a strong Hamas in Gaza is the best way to ensure a weak Palestinian Authority in the West Bank.” And even if he wanted to find a peaceful resolution to the conflict, Friedman explains, Netanyahu is paralyzed to do so because of his own precarious political position. “He is hostage to a Far Right in his coalition that has told him... progress toward a unified Palestinian position is a no-go, we'll throw you out of power."
Friedman and Ian also talk about how the US-Israel relationship is as tense as it has ever been. As Ian explains early in the episode, “The Biden administration is losing patience with its closest ally in the Middle East." And yet, the flow of weaponry and money to Jerusalem from Washington remains unabated. It's clear that the path to peace remains elusive. The voices of moderation and diplomacy are more critical than ever, Friedman says. But in the meantime, all signs point to more bloodshed and a new generation of Israelis and Palestinians who will grow up hating each other.
Dig deeper: What is Netanyahu thinking? Ian takes a look: • Why Israel's Netanyahu...

Nothing in the least corporate about any of his ideas, they’re based on truth. Hamas does not care in the least about what happens to Palestinians, they could have sheltered them in tunnels! With all due respects to Messers Bremmer and Friedman, their opinions are born from assessment of Israel that hasn't existed for a generation. Their beliefs that Netanyahu's replacement will chart a new course and the majority of Jewish citizens in Israel don't hold similar views to his on the conduct of the war in the north and the south and the occupation of the west bank and furthermore wish to restore sanity, abolish the racism and find an honest moral way to resolve the Palestinian issue is bordering on insanity.

It has to start with change if mindset on the part of the Arab Palestinians. Their pathological hatred of Jews is beyond belief. They had a chance, many chances to gain their portion of the land. Many of them are not hundred years in the region - read Zuheir Mohsen of the PLO: "The Palestinian people does not exist … there is no differences between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians, and Lebanese", though Palestinian identity would be emphasised for political reasons. In a March 1977 interview with the Dutch newspaper Trouw he stated that "between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese there are no differences. We are all part of one people, the Arab nation [...] Just for political reasons we carefully underwrite our Palestinian identity. Because it is of national interest for the Arabs to advocate the existence of Palestinians to balance Zionism. Yes, the existence of a separate Palestinian identity exists only for tactical reasons",

TF is really shockingly stuck in around 1999... The 2-state solution has been an impossibility since 2000, when Arafat refused a deal to divide the land that would have required even more peace and cooperation than even the internal operations of Belgium. TF also is very proud of himself when he says that the Oct 7 attack was not indicative of an existential threat, and he advocates Israel just ignore the conflict and focus on thriving during the time-outs.. How can you thrive with an axe over your neck, so many killed and abducted, such savagery, tens of thousands of displaced civilians, ... and clearly no one else but Israel will do something to prevent it from happening again. fair enough, the rest of the world has enough of its own problems. That's why the threat has gone from pretty much existential (Hamas showered rockets on Israel at will before Oct 7) to really clearly existential, no matter what TF chooses to believe about it.

What is the most Pro Palestinian and most Pro Israeli thing that can be done? Exercise justice. Can PLO and Israel negotiate it? possibly, but this is what I mean by justice. There is only 1 path. Through a holy book that all three religions respect, the Torah. And what does the Torah bring? Justice, let me explain: Jesus famous saying "love your neighbor as yourself" is a quote found in Leviticus 19:18. One of the blessings of the Torah is it explains how to love your neighbor. For example, it highlights a number of times the importance of taking care of orphans, widows and foreigners living in their land: Exodus 22:22: "Do not take advantage of the widow or the fatherless." Deuteronomy 10:18: "He defends the cause of the fatherless and the widow, and loves the foreigner residing among you, giving them food and clothing." Deuteronomy 24:17: "Do not deprive the foreigner or the fatherless of justice, or take the cloak of the widow as a pledge." Deuteronomy 27:19 (ESV): Cursed be anyone who perverts the justice due to the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amen.’ And elsewhere in the Bible: Psalm 146:7 who executes justice for the oppressed, who gives food to the hungry. The Lord sets the prisoners free; Isaiah 61:1 (ESV): The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 (ESV): The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. For God will bring every deed into judgment, with every secret thing, whether good or evil. We don’t have to be a Palestinian supporter, but these verses highlight the moral obligation to protect and provide for the vulnerable members of society, including the poor, orphans, widows and foreigners living in your land. We’re not commanded to love only our kinsmen and those who share our worldview. And this is how justice can occur (but it won't be easy setting up the magistrate system to carry it out): Justice requires fair weights and measures. Matthew 7:2-5 (ESV): For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye. Proverbs 20:10 (ESV): Unequal weights and unequal measures are both alike an abomination to the Lord. If it can be proven that they committed crimes beyond the allowable standard and if convicted, the penalties described in the Torah would apply. For the destruction inflicted, the penalty would range from 2 to 4 times retribution for the damage they inflicted. Additionally, for indiscriminate murders of civilians, those responsible would face capital punishment. This accountability would extend to all leaders involved in the decision-making process and any military personnel who executed the orders. Only biblical justice offers those residing in the Holy Land any prospect of coexisting with a people who have perpetrated these atrocities. Without justice, this cycle of violence and destruction will persist. While we acknowledge the need for these people to encounter Jesus, they require the assistance of the international community to establish some semblance of justice. Torah justice stands as the only means by which true peace can be achieved.

Let’s imagine the following. The same conversation took place in 1938. Neville Chamberlein was discussing with British journalist if they should react sharply to Hitler’s invasion of Czechoslovakia or take it easy and first make sure all German civilians are safe. Maybe sign some sort of treaty with Hitler since he will likely settle for it and limit his ambitions with river Rein. After all why would he need Baltic Sea or Black Sea. Who needs oil wells or trade routes! Israel is today’s Czechoslovakia and appears to be under attack. Apparently history lessons are never learnt. It is unfortunate. Let’s not forget that US and UK bear collective guilt for not allowing Jewish refugees (yes, a lot of them children) to be saved from Nazi atrocities and causing numerous fatalities as a result. Ironically, it is Czech Republic that was most helpful to Israel through most difficult times. It knows the pain of aggression. God bless that little country. It is important that US and UK do not repeat their 1930-s mistakes and do not cause atrocities against Jewish people to be repeated. World, since early ages of humanity, is highly anti-Semitic. And it has nothing to do with Israel.

Israel funneled money into Hamas, they helped keep them in power for almost two decades. How is that anything like Czechoslovakia in 1938, are you saying they had something to do with the rise of Germany, helping them amass the power they did? As far as Israel, it seems like they are destroying their country with this war. From destroying diplomatic ties, driving down their economy, increasing political unrest with massive protests from Israelis, how is any of this anyone's fault but the Israeli government's? The US does not bear collective guilt for the Holocaust, Germany does. The only thing we will have guilt over if we help Israel commit another holocaust against the Palestinians. Maybe the entire world is antisemitic and hates Israel. Well what do they want the rest of us to do about that? A competent government would realize that's the world they live in. Clearly Israel is not a competent government and is coming apart at the seams.

Arab nations have consistently said they won't go in as it would appear they are collaborating. Gazans will resent these countries not intervening to help them. First of all the land has to be given back in Gaza and the West Bank. Stop talking about a Palestinian state and start the plan.

And it appears you weren't complaining when Egypt occupied Gaza strip and Jordan held Judea and Samaria 1948-1967. .? Why didn't they make a state then? Because the Arab Palestinians are not able to self govern and lack responsibility to become part of the world's nations. They are despised by their Arab brothers and sisters for their appalling behaviour and havoc that they cause all over the region : Black September Jordan Lebanon and Egypt as well as Kuwait all kicked out the Palestinians from their countries. So, ultimately, it us up to the Arab Palestinians to self reflect - why ?

In my opinion PA and PLO have lost too much credibility to be able to administer and govern Palestinians in West Bank and Gaza. It would require a credible armed resistance in Gaza and in West Bank as well as from Syria and Hezbollah for Israel to agree to a diplomatic solution and end its occupation in Gaza and West Bank. The one state solution is one that seems to be gaining a lot of support in some circles but is not widely aceepted. Possibly because it seems such a far reach that the solution to the Israeli Palestinian issue could be a “South African” model. One democratic state with equal rights for both Palestinians and Israelis.

Again , it shows the people of the world that all acts are for personal benefits , in this case , Nethanyahu wanting to stay in control and power is making political manoeuvres to keep the extreme right appeased. In fact , in the entire world ; there are only 500-600 people who are in control and act in their self interest with impunity so as to stay in power for as long as they can - whether they democratically elected, or have usurped power . These “heads of state” along with their entourage of stooges , backed by crony capitalists do what they please , indulge and negotiate with terrorists , incite divisiveness amongst its own and other people of the world … all in 100% self interest . Therefore the only and only alternative is : 1) Eradicate Politicians . If the tech world where every person can vote via biometrics and retina scans , can directly vote from one’s mobile phone ; people can vote on every important policy through referendum (direct democracy) and then handing it over to a bureaucracy . Of course some checks and balances would be necessary to be put in place , but here detailing it is not the objective - the overriding direction of how people of this world should think , is . 2) As a step towards direct democracy , term limits across the board (speaker , judges of the Supreme Court , president , Governors need to be instituted , so these people sitting in high places do not develop megalomania and hence indulge in doing everything possible to feed that personal megalomania (the root cause) eventually leading almost every country towards single party “democracy “ or outright dictatorship . Until then the 7 bn will remain irrelevant .
