@AndrewGoldenberg-dl3fe Ad hominem. Can't rationally debate the facts and argument, so _attack the man_ . It serves us well to leave the self-infantiliizing mode behind. Killing the messenger will _not change_ the facts in the report. Sorry. The tribal impulse overtakes many of us and can supersede our humanistic impulses--if we choose to allow it. We have to make a _moral_ decision choosing one or the other , as professor Mearsheimer states. Our tribe is _not our destiny_ despite the fact that it provided us an _identity_ during our formative, impressionable years. We evolve, we experience epiphanies, we move on. Be well.

The title comes from the pen of 1923 Nobel Literature winner W B Yeats, himself no stranger to Ireland’s revolutionary struggle. John Hume, a Nobel Peace Prize winner and the main architect of the Good Friday Peace Agreement, features prominently in the book for good reason. Unfortunately, there is no one of his stature in American,Israeli or Palestinian public life to effect a path to peace. Had Hume lived to see this eruption of violence,then I suspect he may have had a more positive influence on the EU’s subservience to US policy. Hume recently received an accolade from of his former implacable political and cultural opponents: he referred to him as the greatest Irishman in History. I have lived through a life time of injustice, discrimination and second class citizenship leading to violence, bloodshed, murder and carnage. An overwhelming majority of Germans disapprove of Israel’s military offensive in Gaza, a new poll found on Friday. Some 69% of Germans said they believe that Israel’s military actions in Gaza are unjustified as they have claimed too many civilian lives. Only 18% voiced support for Israel’s ongoing military offensive. Some 87% of those surveyed said the Western countries should put more pressure on the Israeli government to ensure the delivery of more humanitarian aid to the Palestinian civilians in Gaza. The representative poll was commissioned by the German public broadcaster ZDF, and it was conducted by the foundation Forschungsgruppe Wahlen between March 19 and 21.

Yeah, completely false on all counts. You cannot use Apartheid and Israel in the same breath. The word simply does not apply. The same for genocide if one knows the meaning and context of the word. Civilian death in war is not genocide. Genocide means the deliberate mass killing of man, woman, and child in an attempt to exterminate a specific group of people, i.e., the Holocaust, the Holodomor, Rwanda, Armenia etc...If your government uses the population as human shields as well as hospitals, schools, private homes as military infrastructure and these are hit by bombs, the fault lies with the government. Also, Hamas started the war, retreated into Gaza City and its 500 miles of tunnels, and continues to fight and use civilian deaths, (greatly exaggerated btw) for propaganda. Mearsheimer's analysis is weak.

In 1948 after Israel declared independence (end of british rule), Jordan army crossed the Jordan river into Judea & Samaria (known as the west bank by MSM) and east Jerusalem. The Jordan army killed or drove away the Jewish people. The Jordan army then destroyed Jewish property or took it over. Jordan then encouraged Jordanian settlement in the occupied land. Jewish property not destroyed became occupied by Jordanians. After the Israeli victory in 1967 and Jordnian disillusionment with their expansion effort (1988), Jordan revoked the Jordanian citizenship of "palestinians" in Judea & Samaria (known as the west bank by MSM) and east Jerusalem. For the most part "palestinians" are leftover Jordanian colonist (Gaza residents more closely tied to Egypt). The homeland of the majority of "palestinians" is Jordan.

What I love about John Mearsheimer, and probably what the Israeli and American governments hate...is that he comes from a totally neutral perspective...like a scientist that has conducted an experiment, and explains his findings, not having any biased in his revelations...just pure unadulterated facts. He really is an extremely intelligent and honest man, and intelligence and honesty is a serious threat to governments that constantly try to manipulate the population.

believe me, he is not a humanitarian. He is almost 'autistic' in respect to his analyses. He doesn't say these things out of kindness, he simply believes them to be true.

Thank you this. This man is well spoken and can speak on this subject objectively. His points really show the power of the narrative. I'm a 59 year old American. South Africa was an apartheid state and was once proud of it. And in the west I was one of those in college in the 80s asking my college to divest from Apartheid South Africa. Until this year I don't remember hearing any media figure say Israel is an Apartheid state. I still don't hear corporate media call it that and they lost credibility with me. I was a lifelong Democrat. But that party as well refuses to say "we are backing an Apartheid state" . Instead they say"we are the party of diversity, equity and inclusion". And then they 100 percent support Israel to be an apartheid state. They just never admit it. But we can all see it now, and maybe some Democrats are ok with apartheid but they can't sell that and DEI at the same time because it shows they are just hypocrites. So I left the party.
@gillps51306 ай бұрын
Hypocrisy and cognitive dissonance are the measures of the world today. I grew up hearjng the expression, 'what's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander'. You couldn't pass your 11 yrs exam in school without knowing the meaning of these sorts of expressions. They offered good grounding in sense and lessons in thinking. There wasn't a lot of money flowing around school though.

Thanks for your comment. I relate to everything you say. I’m a 59 year old Australian. I’ve left the party that is the equivalent to your democratic party in Australia. Both your Democratic and my Labor party are disgraceful and support and facilitate this ongoing genocide and do not call out Zionist Israel for what it is and what it does and this has been going on for 75+ years with so much evidence and endless UN and humanitarian agency reports for decades now. My view of your Democratic Party and your President has completely changed too. They like our prime minister and his party are genocidal criminals.

Same here, I got tired of hearing about Trump when they are aiding and abetting a genocide for an apartheid state they knew all about for 75 years.
@larsekman82446 ай бұрын
By the way, if anyone questions that Israel is indeed an apartheid state, just point them towards the respective reports by Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and B’Tselem detailing exactly why Israel fits the definition. The last of those groups is in fact an Israeli human rights organization.

The value in John Mearsheimer and his analysis is that whether or not he supported one side or the other side his analysis would remain unchanged. That is the key to his emphasis on realism, he is simply trying to explain the reality of the situation as it is, irrespective of his approval or disapproval thereof.

What is the difference between secretive lobbying and bribing? Seems exactly the same besides one being sanctioned by the government.
@robertstan2986 ай бұрын
None whatsoever. Also keep in mind that bribing also happens behind the scenes, the so called "transparent" sums from lobbying are just the tip of the iceberg. And other things are in motion as well, such as blackmail.

lobbying is funding the campaign and advising legal actions, while bribery is giving money to the person to be an accomplice to a crime. lobbying is not inherently bad, the problem is the incompetency of the politicians, who are unable to win campaigns due to not understanding the voters, and are unable to understand the impact of laws due to not understanding business government society technology geopolitics military etc… bribery coerces the corrupt, lobbying coerces the incompetent.

@thegoodpimps It seems like that system would attract narcissistic people who would be motivated the same as the bank robber though, but being slick about it. I can't see someone with a good conscience participating in this behavior, the immortality seems inherent to being a member.

Paul Salvatori struck me as a humane person who did not hesitate to delve deeply into the subject at hand even from a philosophical or moral point of view. Professor Mearsheimer as always showed why he is rightly considered as the foremost authority on international relations.
