I’ve been fishing a Johnson Silver Minnow for 20 plus years. I have never expected a lure failure. I use a Titanium Leader that has a swivel on it. I use 30 lbs 832 with out a problem. 95% of the time I use a 3” to 5” White Grub as a trailer. I see no reason to mess with success.

Couldn't you achieve the same thing on a Johnson by adding a split ring, swivel, and electrical wire end cap?

Actually, a swivel tends to promote spinning which will lead to line twist .. the Johnson spoon will not spin as long as you do not use a fast retrieve and they have the best wobble ...

I would think the swivel weight throws off the action and balance off the spoon ?

Unless H&H took that into consideration and added weight to the rear to rebalance it... Still, I think the wobble of the Johnson spoon will out-produce the spin of the H&H.

A.little off topic. Have you guys trolled the larger slam shady paddle tails for grouper? I am going to start trying to use the downriggers that came with my boat trolling several miles out from Clearwater beach but I need to figure out the right lures.

If you fall in love wth that $6 plastic nose cap it will be the first thing you lose. FEAR NOT. Stop by the hardware store and buy a few orange wire nuts that are close enough to the size and shape. By the way, I see Bagley has brought out their own version of a Silver Minnow clone. Theirs has a hammered (instead of smooth) finish that mmight be interesting.
