I fish kastmaster and I find they work in all sorts of retrieve. But depending on water depth and where the fish are relative to me, I would use different retrieve. For example, if the fish is directly below me, I would jig my spoon. If I'm am fishing off the bank and the water is shallow, I would do a slow direct retrieve. If the water is deep and I'm fishing off a dock, then I will do a twitch retrieve where I let it sink back a little to induce a strike. Works well for me.

Honestly i haven't figured out the best retrieve for a spoon. I have used steady and a twitching retrieve. For jigging stripped bass i use a fast jigging motion.

Great advise thank you, I would just like to add if those are normal gum boots which you are wearing that is really a problem on a boat. I lost two friends many years back, they were trout fishing on a small boat in a lake. The boat turned over for some reason and both men drowned as a result of their gum boots filling with water and they were unable to keep their heads above water, just some food for thought, take care.

I think it depends on the type of fish - on the westcoast I reel the spoon on the surface rather quickly for bonita - good tips !

Uni knot - it depends on preference and the type of spoon.

I can't count the times when the fish wouldn't even look at a spoon fished with a straight retrieve but would crush it with a twitched retrieve. A spoon has been a major tool in my box for nearly 40 years.

Daiwa bg 4000 or bigger for a blend surf fishing with heavy bait and inshore fishing with lures?
@anotheryoutuber_ Жыл бұрын
ive been getting by with the PENN FIERCE III 5000, but i think a 4000 series would be just fine, i just love that you can buy the penn for half as much and its very easy to maintain, seals are great but salt always finds a way in. maintenance will cost less than seals that'll give up anyway. ive had good luck with the 5000 set on light drag, sometimes id like a lighter reel, sometimes id like a heavier one. but thats why folks end up with more than one rod. just, buy whatever makes you wanna fish with it more. i just happen to be a fan of cheaper mid level setups. not sure if thats helpful, just wanted to weigh in.

Johnson Silver Minnow is the best weedless spoon! Almost a hundred years since a Metalist from Chicago invented the spoon! Spoons? It's a toss up? I prefer the Old School Daredevils that were still made in Detroit! Saltwater favorite if you can find them? Are Texas built & designed Triple Chance Spoon with three different line attachment locations! S, M & D it was originally signed as a weedless spoon! With makes sense because of the long slot in the back where originally a single hook was mounted! But I've only seen that configuration in the patent drawings! Now they use it to place a large split ring to attach a triple hook! It's a fish side profile shape! But the casting of the metal is twice as thick on one side compared to the other and the offset line locations give the spoon a very nice wobble, but it's deadly when ripped and then allowed to flutter as all spoons are! But the Triple Chance Spoon because of its uneven casting gives almost a glide bait swimming action! Especially when attaching a chartreuse plastic shirt at the split ring and below the hook so when retrieved and any speed the shirt keeps the up especially over oysters and grass it almost weedless! Caught the biggest Sea Trout ever! Just dead sticking in a deep cut a dead flat tide! Spoons are the most versatile lure! Cast a mile cover water in any depth and yes ripping and letting them flutter are the most productive ways to be fished! A silver flash with a flutter makes predator fish think other fish have wounded or it's just a dying bait! Easy meal! Big fish didn't get large by chasing baits they ambushed them! Taking advantage of location, location! TMI CMTFU!

@mattinayak Жыл бұрын
Actually, what Luke showed was that when you do a straight retrieve, but add occasional pauses and raise the rod tip slowly you got strikes on that slow roll. It was his dad that was out-catching him on a trip that prompted him to make that video. Very familiar with the video and it is an effective way to use this lure when they are less active. Thanks for the comment!
