I think the unspoken and problematic appeal of a lot of podcasting/streaming/gaming content is that the casual nature of the conversations can simulate friendship for a lot of lonely people (especially when there is a live chat element), and I can see that leading to some unhealthy feelings of attachment and entitlement. It was uncomfortably common on Twitch for viewers to donate bits in order to pass on messages along the lines of "watching your content helps with my depression"

When it comes to the airplane window discussion i feel like the simple solution is to simply talk it out with the person or people you're sharing a row or aisle with and either arrive at a consensus or make a compromise. You know just be reasonable, and whenever the flight attendants make a call that overrides whatever decision your row or aisle has made. Seems pretty straight forward to me.

Taking photos for others? ugh. I NEVER ask people to take photos for me. I have no desire to be in any photos. I avoid being in photos, especially photos that I might have to look at. I'll take a photo for someone, I won't ask someone to take one for me and refuse when people just randomly offer to take one for me.

many good long haul airlines have a great solution for the window debate. They have cameras in the outside of the plane which are live streamed to the inflight entertainment screens, so whoever wants to look outside, can just look at their screen, and they can have the shades down if other people require that.

I went to the movies a while back and chose an empty seat when the place had less than 20% full. And of-coarse a couple had to sit right next to me. I just moved down 1 row and was fine but they had a good 30 seats around me to chose from.

Not making the person's face visible makes it easier for people to identify with the emotion/idea that the astronaut is trying to convey. If you send a smiley to someone they get what you're saying but if you send someone a hyper detailed drawing of someone they are just going to comment on the drawing. Understanding Comics does a great explanation of this.

I'm huge fan of NASA and I love the gifs. I believe there is honor in humor and it doesn't at all demean the uniform. In fact, if it is worn on humankind's behalf, if should represent the full spectrum of the human condition. Levity is what allows us to survive a trip to the moon or the several months on the ISS or to get to Mars. Gif is like gift, not like Jif peanut butter. I don't buy that the G's sound has to match the one in General Image Format, because that's not a rule that acronyms follow. CERT is pronounced like certificate, even though the C comes from computer. Same with CREB, CUNY, TEST and TIP.

Wizmut I think the pronouncing style of Jif doesn’t really come from that stylistic choice, but rather from the creator of the format expressing that to be the pronunciation. Personally, not being a native english speaker, I use Gif when speaking on my native language and (usually) jif when speaking in english, depending on which pronunciation sounds better in the sentence. It is annoying to not have a 100% knowledge on which is correct.
