I just went back and watched the 21 second torture test on the Glock. You didn't throw the gun at steel or wood, no mud, only water and you shook it out much more than the VP9. Still as a VP9 owner, it is not very assuring to see the VP9 fail the water test.

+Military Arms Channel I don't carry a VP9 or a Glock. They seem to be fine firearms. People seem to lose their shit anymore if one negative thing is said about a Glock. I watched a few Glock torture (with mud, dirt etc.) videos after this and they behaved pretty much the same as this VP9 did....they failed usually close to the first round. Some Glock videos didn't fail early. So it seems like it's very dependent on many factors. I'm no expert. But I still wouldn't be that leery of either of these companies products. Though I'm glad I don't carry these brands due to the large amount of crybaby owners they breed. That said, many modern firearms Glock, Sig, HK etc. seem to be very well built. I do give you credit for beating the shit out of your personal firearm though.
@doublel73379 жыл бұрын
+Military Arms Channel Mac, do you know I shot my first gun in 1959 ? We didn't even own a television, listened to Gunsmoke on the radio. I have owned several Glocks, still have a Gen4 Mod 23, which had the worst trigger I ever saw on a gun. You have to admit you did not throw the Glock at steel or wood like you did the VP9. go back and watch the 21 second video and see if you believe it is a fair comparison. I still like like ya Mac even though you're getting older. :)
@doublel73379 жыл бұрын
n300zx931 I understand what you are saying, but if you watch the 21 second Glock video, Mac really shakes the water out of the Glock. The two tests cannot be compared because the guns were treated differently. I am in no way saying this gun did not fail, but I believe a Glock would have as well, and I own them both.
@doublel73379 жыл бұрын
+n300zx931 I bought a new Gen4 Mod23, the trigger on that gun would not even reset without shoving it forward. That in itself is a failure in my book. It took a lot of polishing to get that trigger to be half as good as the VP9. I even had to file down the nub on the trigger bar which was supposed to help center the bar on the striker release, which it didn't. What a great piece of engineering that was to almost fix a problem by putting an annoying dent in the trigger bar. The striker release on the HK is smooth as silk and built like a watch. I am not going to throw my VP9 at a steel plate, or stomp it in wet sand. That is all I am going to say, I have a lot of respect for MAC, and I spoke my piece on one video I didn't agree on. He comes back at how old he is. I am old enough to be his dad, and I have shot more different types and brands than he has.

Bob Marvel recently told me that to prevent foreign matter from stopping your gun, you either make it very loose (i.e. 1911 GI / Glock) or you make it extremely tight (i.e. hand fit customs). @kmsharley758 жыл бұрын
+Hughes Enterprises Interesting can you describe your different philosophies on maintenance and lubrication,or atleast your own philosophy?
@HughesEnterprises8 жыл бұрын
+kmsharley75 I keep all of my guns in spotless working condition and heavily lubricated. On a long range day, I clean handguns after every 300 rounds are fired. If I only put 10-20 rounds through a gun it still gets field stripped, cleaned and lubricated at the end of the day. Carry guns get cleaned weekly whether they are fired or not. I use Hoppes solvent on all surfaces and barrel to remove old oil dirt and carbon. Wiped dry. Then all sliding/rotating/bearing surfaces get coiled with Mobil 1 full synthetic 15W-50 motor oil to a point where there is a visible tactile layer but not so much it will run off or pool. Nothing ever gets run dry or dirty and I almost never have malfunctions. I don't have dry sand where I live so grit attraction is a non-issue.

+Raul Danger It could also go the other way. Most hammer fire guns do really meh in mud tests because mud clogs up where the hammer strikes dampening the strike.
@larz4569 жыл бұрын
+Raul Danger Agreed! All of my guns have hammers. I have the SIG p938, the HK P30, and the CZ P09. All of them are extremely reliable. If grit were to prevent the hammer working in DA, you can simply pull the hammer back. If the obstruction prevented the hammer from hitting the pin, most likely you could visually inspect and remove with your hands. If a striker has an obstruction, you'll likely need to remove the slide or worse. The hammer fired pistols I'd never buy is the ones where the hammer is flat with the slide. If you can't thumb it, you lose one of its benefits. Btw, the CZ P09 can use an extended firing pin (CGW) with an 18lb hammer spring. You'll never fail to ignite the primer with that set up. Under rated, but amazingly accurate and reliable gun for any price range.

+Jager Bomber I am not emotionally attached to any tool. Unlike some folks, I keep an open mind and if something doesn't work for me I ditch it and move on. The whole reason I've not shared my final thoughts on the VPP9 was because I was treating it like the Glocks I carried before it and that takes time. I've done all this to a Glock before. This was the final test for me before saying "the VP9 is the best striker fired gun on the market IMHO". I carried the gun for a year. I didn't clean it. I shot it suppressed. I ran every type of ammo I could through it. Now, I'm not so confident in the pistol and I believe a Glock is more robust. I will always share my results and opinions, either favorable or otherwise.

Or giving a gun a bad reputation...which is based off wrong info, or lack of info. This can hurt sales. So companies, rather play it safe. I know this, because one of my brothers is an executive V.P. at FNH. And my family has been manufacturing firearms for other companies for two generations. I love your reviews.. but this is the most non-scientific review I have ever seen. I am a little shocked. I am a glock fanboy but I have a vp9 and have run about 3500 rounds through it. Most impressive out of the box pistol under 1k I have ever fired. I have used it in USPSA - steel and rigorous range practice. Bullet for bullet this weapon has out -performed my g-17 - in accuracy, speed and reliability. All the damage you did to the gun did not cause it to fail. You broke it deliberately and it still worked. In fact every HK I have ever owned has the same paddle safety and they work like a jet and the best part is you had one left after the offhand one broke. If you are down range and you have a safety breaking because of the fight you're in - you brought the wrong gun to the fight and are screwed anyway. Those parts can be replaced when you get to the rear. My glocks have spring issues all the time and often fail to go into battery after a hard day at the range. Although I don't have a supressor for the vp9 I am pretty sure you can retro fit the recoil spring to fix the blowback issue created with a supressor. Glocks work out of the box with supressors because the recoil springs are too heavy to begin with and cause the barrel to nose dive under rapid fire. Is that a failure? I like what you do and I like your work - Just not this video.

I love my VP9 and enjoyed this test. It will not change my opinion of the firearm as I am not tossing the thing in water or sand as most people do not do that. But the test does a great job of displaying why this is not a combat handgun. Keep the content coming!!!
@Sheild_against_the_wicked556 Жыл бұрын
I reserve the right to be wrong, but I cannot count how many combat vets I've heard say that all of these torture tests are extreme versions of the environment being simulated. Do guns get dirty and fail? Yes. But it's much more uncommon than you think and never this extreme, as well as them saying that no one picks it up and doesn't at least douse it with a little water if necessary. I've also never really heard of ANYONE throwing the gun around either. These tests are really designed to make the gun fail. How much can it take, but this is extreme and for the most part, unrealistic. But I could be wrong.

It never had a trigger malfunction. Maybe when I have the patients to detail clean it again, I'll record and post the next test. Still enjoy the channel 👍

Alright so, I own the following firearms. VP9, Glock 21, Glock 43, Glock 43, Glock 26, Glock 17. I have fired the VP9 the most. It has never failed to eject, fire, or anything. I just took the Glock 43 out today for the first time, and it failed to eject the last spent cartridge with the first magazine I put into it. The Glock fanboys can say all they want that they are the most reliable. I say that out of all of my glocks, my VP9 has worked flawlessly without one failure after 500 rounds. Every Glock I have mentioned above (with the sole exception being the Glock 21) has had at least one failure each and I have owned the VP9 longer then any of them. While I like glocks for the price, they are ugly, and in my experience less reliable then an H&K.

I wasn't impressed with the VP9 when I shot it. The Top of the slide guard was hitting my hand each shot and whether it was inconsistent range ammo or a dirty pistol the recoil force I found to be inconsistent when compared to shooting a Glock 17 or my Springfield XDm. I would like to see how an XDM would hold up to a similar torture test. The heavier slide on the XDm I found reduces recoil.

Wow. I've looked through your torture test videos. You've never been so hard on a pistol until this VP9. You previously spent an entire 22 seconds water testing a Glock. I understand your desire to put your daily carry gun through hell to see what might stop it. Unfortunately you're tests are a joke. Who are you getting into a fight with in the middle of the muddy woods? Who is running over your carry gun without it (hopefully) being attached to you? The tests you put the gun through that you claim are less severe than what the military use are hopelessly wrong and off base. I love your channel and will continue to watch it but this video is garbage and it makes me question your judgement in future reviews.
@kylemaducdoc8 жыл бұрын
hmm but also.. how in the heck are you also so sure that you AREN'T gonna have a situation in muddy areas and in the woods? I think that this is called a torture test because you have to subject the gun in the harshest conditions possible and hope it still works perfectly or near it (cause isn't that the point?) lol if you're trying to say that you want to test guns less harshly than this then it's kind of like saying you want less of a quality result in a gun since it hadn't been REALLY tested.. especially the gun being an Hk...that's why it's called torture test because you want to see how far this gun would go.. and through out the whole video I don't see anything that seems far fetched.. I mean isn't it possible to have a fight in the mud where you're holding your gun and you drop it in the mud where it gets gunk and shit in it? you gotta go extreme on your situations if you wanna have a TRUE test. or else what the fuck right?
@kylemaducdoc8 жыл бұрын
i don't see anything off base as to how you claim it .. ofcourse military trials are very standard and different still.. but like saying that a gun test in the mud and woods and gunk? how the heck is that far fetched? I don't even see anything impossible about situations.. you could be in any if you're in trouble or of you're in a fight.

@charlesbyrneShowComments4all6 жыл бұрын
Black jacks armory I have a Makarov. It's hammer fired with a 15 pound pull. I haven't watched the video, but I don't recall any Makarov that is striker fired. Unless he cocked the trigger then packed the strike area with mud the Makarov should go bang. I would assume that it could probably shoot a 9x18 steel case ammo (NATO?) With a heavy spring. Whereas a 5 lb striker pistol with NATO rounds? I'm assuming since that wasn't his carry that it was new so the recoil spring was new? I dunno there's just conflicting reports on this. My Glock 19 failed a water test, but they have marine cups. It was disappointing that it failed water test, but I have seen other water & mud tests that vp9 passed. Still glad to have this perspective, but this is in no way a test that can be replicated in the exact manner and I won't be throwing any of my pistols at steel targets.

+jonc151 True, but Glock has a history of producing guns that are very reliable, and a lot of people has posted videos of Glock guns being put through (and most of the time surviving) ridiculous torture tests. Not much science going on in these tests, but still interesting results. So is Glock perfect? No. Are they making the best gun available? Impossible to say really as it depends on the criteria used and personal preferences. Are they good compromises? Yes, undoubtedly. You can find a Glock that will suit almost any situation where you want or need a handgun, and it will be reliable and easy to maintain. So am I a Glocktard? No not really. I'm just willing to admit that Glock has a good product and even though I personally might prefer some other gun I wouldn't complain if I was handed a Glock.

HKParts.Net makes a new backplate that is solid instead of the factory open design that allows you to see if the firearm is loaded. I'd like to see the VP9 go through the elements test with the new backplate. I believe it would improve the overall performance of the pistol regarding foreign matter introduced into the striker channel. I have a couple on mine, especially my SK. It helps to keep lint and fabric fuzz out of the gun.

Then at the end of the test he says the gun has always been reliable at extreme normal conditions like going to the range.....That's not the only NORMAL condition. Just drop it on concrete, kick it around a couple times. These are normal things you might see in a gun fight, NOT bludgeoning a tree with it and throwing it against metal plates and launching it into orbit. This video is not a "should I carry this or not?" video.
