Soooo, I first saw this movie as a young child in the US, I did not know how to read at that time. Had they subtitled the whole thing, the target audience, young kids, would not have understood this awesome film.

Nothing like a pint of whole milk to follow a pint of beer! I have a feeling they all spent the better part of the day sick. Great movie!

Dragonlover91, I totally agree. I'm in Minneapolis; most Americans are totally clueless when it comes to life in other countries. I go to the Norwegian Church (One of only 2 churches in America where Norwegian is part of the service, the other is in Chicago.). Tomorrow they will show Hakon Hakonsen in Norwegian. The only downside is for people like Mark, my friend at church. His eyesight is so poor that he can't read subtitles. So it's helpful to have an English track for folks like him.

was this movie originally in Norwegian or in English ? I always thought it was in English, but their lips seem to be moving with the Norwegian language too... I'm confused. Are there two versions ?

They made two versions of every scene. One norwegian and one english.

Not sure on why "bossen" was translated as "the Bosun", I'd just have it translated as "the boss", plain and simple". And the "Nordic" language is actually Norwegian.

That's because they're not saying "bossen," they're saying "båsen," which means the bosun, or boatswain. :)

Would have been better if they just subtitled the original, I like English but as an Norwegian it feels strange to see the other verision.

As a norwegian how do you think his english sounds? I think it's quite impressive even amongst norwegians. I wish i could switch from my language to english like that at his age lol

@AppleSouffle Sorry about your friend. Yeah, I guess for people like him that can't read the subtitles the English version is better. It's nice to see that the cluelessness many Americans have does not apply to all. :D I have to ask since you go to a Norwegian church if you understand Norwegian or have parents or grandparents that are Norwegian...^^

As Sragonlover91 said, I think it is stupid when they have English audio when there are Norwegians talking with each other, in Norway. It always annoys me when the characters only speak English. You don't speak another language, unless other people are there who need to understand, when you can use your mother tongue. I saw the movie today and thought it was very good. The swiching of languages between English and Norwegian was a good twist that made the movie more real.

I prefer subtitles too dubbing just feels so fake. I thought the boy in the film Shipwrecked was at first a talented English speaker (most Norwegian kids I have met in their teens are) but he sounds very American and there is that wooden feel to it.

+mattbod Shipwrecked is not a traditional dubbed version. It's a recreated version where the actors spoke english. Most norwegians tend to sound more american than british, due to the amount of american movies being watched. I am a norwegian, and my english is more american than british. I've seen the film Håkon Håkonsen since I was a child, and it's been one of my favourite films ever. I didn't know about the english version until today. Man I was shocked :P hahahaha

Why make a international version? Can't English-speakers read subtitles like everyone else? Still I love this movie, and it's best in Norwegian I think more movies should have the native language in them and not in English ( I still think it's sad that in many movies about the second world war everyone speaks English even though they're supposed to speak french or german and not understand each other )
