Something I put together real quickly. Re-edited portions of "Fantasia" (Toccata and Fugue, Rite of Spring, and Ave Maria) and set it to the theme for "Lonesome Dove".

Probably one of the very best Westerns ever made. The whole state of Texas shut down when this series was originally aired and made every effort to see each episode. I remember hearing it discussed over and over the next day as I traveled the state. Proud people.

LONESOME DOVE is the best movie ever period.

This was an excellent presentation and you do honor to one of the greatest western adventures ever filmed as well as some of the best actors and actresses cast for the roles. This score captures the sober and extreme confidence felt by Texas and Texans and, for that, we thank you.

Absolut geniale Musik. Devinitiv eine der schönsten klassischen Melodien die ich je gehört habe.

You did the matching with the orchestra and visuals amazingly well with the superior score of one of the best films of all time. My compliments to your taste and efforts.

+Tony Amico Me, too : my heart is lying here in my lap and my soul is crowding my throat while I try to type this response to you : How special is this. YOU SAID IT, Mr. Amico : How special and real and human and enriching ? So much and too much and Always and Forever : that's how special, and I thank you for helping me see the truth of it.

No kidding right?! This is such a loving tribute to one of ( if not the greatest) westerns ever made, I don't care that it was made for TV, it's just that good. ( Sorry Duke, Mr. Ford, love you guys too). This does not have one image from the movie and yet I hear it and all I see is Gus and Woodrow. YEAH HELL OF A VISION!

+Tony Amico Yeah, a regular tear-flush keeps us human, I reckon. Ay, God : it's quite a party, as Augustus said, so let's appreciate it.

"It's Dying about talkin about Woodrow, it's livin!" ....said by one of the strongest, dignified, and self-actualized characters ever written for the screen.

Just beautiful! Such a great western and an amazing score. Little known fact: The story was originally a script set to star John Wayne, Henry Fonda and James Stewart. But after Wayne turned down the role of Call, it was transformed into the book, then reproduced with the cast we now know. Also of note, Duvall was originally cast as Call, but switched when Tommy Lee Jones read for the part.

Thank you Escapay!!! it is awesome...What a story....what a great film. It may be of interest that much of it was true, their real names were Oliver Loving (the Gus charactor) and Charles Goodnight. The great cattle trip and the journey home with the body are all true. God bless all who love this story!!! and all who share via this site beautiful things.

I'm back and thinking that it would be a boon and a blessing and a dam' good time if someone in Hollywood would put R Duvall and T L Jones and D Lane and A Huston and C Cooper and R Schroeder into a new film, hopefully a period piece where I and so many more could dive like a snake-eatin' hog into the purely joyful experience of seeing all of 'em together again. Ay God, THAT WOULD BE A PARTY. Doesn't hurt to dream.....

wow! How did you do this!? Not a single clip from the film and yet the images you used so strongly invoke memories of the film. Absolutely beautiful, haunting, and most tear-inducing thing I've seen. The visuals work so well with....oh forget it, I seriously need to watch this again as I still have to process this beautiful piece of work. For those who've read my posts, you know I'm never at a loss for words.....except now. Thanks for making me all blubber my Thursday morning away!

+Tommy Petersen I've watched this thing a hundred times, and I'm bleary-eyed right now : so human and powerful, and I'm glad you appreciate it. I associate it closely, too, with the Lord of the Rings saga, especially when the Elves leave the World of Man; and then it loops back, in my mind, to LD when they're viewing the ravaged buffalo herds on the plains, killed wholesale, for tongues or hides or just the hell of it.
@tommypetersen25409 жыл бұрын
+iamintheburg Yeah, for me it brings images of Woodrow sitting with an Indian blanket watching some small band of Indians do some sort of dance, all the while he's got Gus's body in the wagon; just heartbreaking poignant. People forget that this movie totally rejuvenated TOMMY Lee's career. Such a great, great movie.....no it's a film. You're Lord Of The Rings connection is bang on as well.

What Cowboy Gonzalez below says : LD is the best movie ever. PERIOD. Amen, Cowboy, Amen.

I think so, too; especially in consideration of the faithfulness of the film to the written novel : I cannot compare any novel-to-film adaptation to this sincere and thorough and ennobling movie : the visuals and the persons applied to the novel's character's made a Pulitzer Prize winner, I swear, into more than Larry McMurtry had written. And you can play Mr. Polidorus' soundtrack at my funeral and my soul will soar. The best movie ever.

There's a word INEFFABLE - that which can't be expressed............but you've done it with this vid. I lose it at 3:20 ... those visuals : Call and Gus, awestruck at the ruin of the buffalo herds lying butchered across the prairie; Lorrie standing vigil all night at Call's wagon ; and I most especially feel the loss that Tolkien's Elven Race felt when they left Midearth to make way for the age of Man. You really made something special with this post. Something that matters .

Everyone deservedly knows Basil because of his Conan music, and I love it. But I think his Lonesome Dove theme is his most mature and beautiful and shows his full range and scope.

Not to burst your bubble, but this story wasn't based on those people. They found those people after this movie was made.

Did Larry McMurtry tell you that ??? Don't. Think. So.
