We love the Hawaii H-Marts. We went to the one in Kakaako, but now we have to try the one in Pearl City, since it's closer to our home there. Young loves sour Daikon.

Glad you went. I'm gonna wait about 2-3or 4 months before I visit. I would go to the one in Plano TX to get my Kim Chee soup fix since my sister lived in the next town. Pearl City is closer than Kakaako so I'm more inclined to go there. I already see stuff that you showed that I want.

I like that there is more selection of ingredients. But the takeout food selection was small. No kim bap or soups like Palama. I didn't have time to check out their small good court. Maybe they have over there. Wasn't that crowded when I went yesterday. This was filmed Monday so the crowds are thinning out.

My H-Mart prepared food go-to's: The cold sliced tofu that has chili paste on top and a few strips of carrot - if you get it fresh it is soooooo good! The little tiny fried crabs - so ono! There are these clams, cold with a clear brown sauce, those are super good. In the sushi department, when my local H Mart was still pretty new, there would be killer deals in there but not so much these days.

I’ve been curious about HMart, as we’ve never been to one. This one is closer to us so maybe we’ll try to go during the week. Also concerned for Palama Market - parking in Waimalu can be a bear if I don’t go early enough, but like you I want to make sure I can pick up some Kim Bap! Thanks for the walk through, the banchan assortment is large! But no homemade Kim chee is disappointing, huh? Have a great weekend❣️

@@mamafromhawaii Yes you have to park near the end stalls by Don Q near the recycling truck. But it's not too bad of a walk with a cart. But inside will be emptier. This was filmed Monday and the line to the cashier was around the whole store to the back where the refrigerated items were. I went again yesterday and the line and crowd was not bad.
@spang9782

Happy to see you do HMart! We actually went to the grand opening on the 22nd. It was so crowded that we barely got anything because every aisle was filled with people and carts. Yes, the food court is not as big as the Kaka'ako one and is definitely disappointing. As for the Palama comparison, of course HMart has a wider selection of products but IMO, Palama has a way better selection of take out foods. HMart is to Palama as Home Depot is to City Mill.

The ready made food table is near the frozen food and the banchan. We went again at 2pm and most of it was gone. So maybe it was sold out? The food court is after the register and you have to go around the back. Really weird layout.

Tried to go there on Sunday, but there was still a wait line. Ended up at Don Q instead. Thanks for sharing, but am wondering if they use any heat lamps for their prepared foods? (or they should have a prep timestamp on their products) Also, were there any fast food vendors? Will eventually make my visit, but not in a rush... 😊

There is a small food court. The pre packaged foods just sit on a table like the ones at Palama. No lamp and no time stamp. Just the date it was made. I didn't get sick though. This was filmed on Monday but I went yesterday at 2pm and it was much emptier.

Has H Mart changed their presentation of their precooked foods, because I thought the state regulations required them to be kept under a heater OR chilled (for items that needs to be that way)? I love grab-and-go, although there's that risk when not kept at the proper temperature. What I did find out is that H Mart Kalihi has nothing to do with H Mart Kakaako and Pearl City. When you go to their website, they don't list the Kalihi location as one of their. I really don't know how that location gets to use that branding name.

Yes interesting how they get away with it. Palama Supermarket does it too. They have the kimbap, soups and bentos out laying there with no lamp or refrigeration. But I've never gotten sick from them. Good review of Hmart but your comments about getting sick from the flounder I didn’t much like cuz some Korean food has a stinky smell but the taste is usually opposite of what it smells like. Kind of like Vietnamese fish sauce. Smells funky but taste oh so good. Plus the premade food have dates of when they’re made and they don’t leave out stuff that may be bad. If you want people to try new things you shouldn’t scare them with comments like that. Just my opinion but overall I enjoyed your video. Aloha!
@FoodFiend
@FoodFiend 2 жыл бұрын
Mahalo for your comment. I am honest and report what I smell. It is not to offend as I am part Korean, but to warn those who cannot take that fishy smell. It was so fishy I was worried I'd be sick, but I did not get sick in the end. I like fish sauce and Vietnamese food, but some people who want to eat do not like the smell. I report what I experience for those who do not want to waste their money if that is not their type of food. It is not to insult the food. Everyone has their own tastes and I would hate for you to waste your money if that is not what the viewer prefers.
