This is such an important topic! I've been teaching my mixed race son Cantonese and we recite poems together frequently (as you can see on my channel). I try my best to make the language fun, cool and interesting....which is really hard because we dont have other Cantonese speaking friends/family in the city. I hope you will continue to give this beautiful gift of Cantonese to your sons. You are such a great teacher and I love your personality and energy!!!

Speaking Cantonese is just so cool! I wish I learn it even if I’m Taiwanese. I’ve got Eurasian kids myself as well so it’s definitely something I’m gonna encounter in the future. Thanks a lot for sharing xx

Full time mum, support you !!!!

As someone who is Euroasian and growing up in a bilingual family, I totally agree on “pushing” the kids to learn how to write and read Chinese. I remember my Mom used to lecture me when I spoke Portuguese in front of my father’s relatives, that lecture kinda stayed until now, whenever there are people who do not understand Portuguese or English (or vice versa depending on the number of non speakers present) I would just say it in Cantonese and translate to foreigners the language or speak in English or Portuguese and translate back to Cantonese. So being able to read and write Chinese really helped!
Your sons are so adorable, such a sweet and happy family

Saw your video on my feed just a couple days again, and I have finished watching all of your videos now 😂 I put them on when I was getting ready, cooking e.t.c. 😂 I really love your relationship with your husband, and the feeling that the kids are the 愛情結晶品 instead of the main focus of your couple life. 😍
Such a cute family!!! You are a great mom!! And you made the festival FUN!

This is an interesting topic. I am a CBC. My parents are from HK and fluent in English. Getting your child to speak chinese is a very common challenge for overseas families. Even if canto is first language (as it was for me), once you start school and pick up English...it does get harder and harder for parents to revert their kids back to speaking their native tongue at home. (I can speak, read and write Chinese as an adult - but I think this is actually not common for overseas babies.) I love seeing your creative encouraging ways to promote Cantonese at home. Good luck!! The boys are doing great. ❤️

Hi there! I am a new subscriber. I am also a mom in HK. My only son is about Noah’s age. I like your channel and the subject of the videos. They are not cliche subjects which can be easily found out there. And your husband and you have a good sense of humour. I laughed out when your husband asked if there is a blessing for cleaner eating. 😂 He is right. We should think of one. 正向教育 As for language challenges, my boy is the opposite to Noah. My husband and I are native Cantonese speakers while I speak fluent English. No matter how hard I try to make my boy speak English, he is quite reluctant to do so. He studies in a bilingual IS in HK. When I see local school kids (also from Cantonese speaking families) like speaking in English way more than he does, my heart 🩸. Let’s work hard together to “force” our kids in a smart and happy way. Happy Chinese New Year (and of course everyday) to your lovely family!
