Interprétation toute en beauté

Most of my life I have disliked performances, especially of Baroque music, that seemed to be too fast. But in the last few years, it isn't the speed that actually bothered me - it was lack of clarity in the playing! When the soloists and orchestra didn't cleanly articulate the phrasing and play the individual notes cleanly, that, it seems, is what actually bothered me. In 19th-century romantic style music, there is a lot of clumping together of the music, with the idea, apparently of making it a homogeneous whole. You can't do that to Baroque music! It has to be cleanly played and carefully articulated to make musical sense. This particular ensemble, the Croatian Baroque Ensemble, seems to be doing just that and as a result their performances sound "right" to my ears. Good stuff!
