The wonderful rubato interpretation in the harpsichord solo was like water flowing rapidly downstream, eddying slowly at the bends, then rushing on to find at last a resolution as it enters the larger stream. So beautiful! Thanks to these performers for their playing.

When I heard the harpsichord solo I said, out loud to my stereo system, "Rock n roll". That isn't something this old classical music guy says very often!

The Harpsichordist's use of rubato in the cadenza is exquisite.

The more music I listen to, the more I think that chamber music like this is the way that music is meant to be. A handful of people, interacting with one another simply by producing wonderful sounds. Communication that overcomes language.
@Verschlungen12 жыл бұрын
Finally a harpsichord player who gets it!! Yes, Bach would have been right there at the keyboard improvising the cadenza (as in jazz), very likely pausing to "think about it" and to savor the notes in real time, as suggested so perfectly by this harpsichord soloist with his widely varying tempi. Bravo!! (And: a sign of intelligent life on earth after all?) Thank you!
@alistairkewish651 Жыл бұрын
The main idea behind the cadenza? Is it meant to be thus? Is to allow considerable variations in speed between the very first note and the return of the tutti. Any player who attempts to play it rigidly without any rubato needs their brains examining.

Mandeep Singh Deliberate -- and delightful! -- ambiguity on the part of God... excuse me, J S Bach. It's hard to believe that after listening to Bach's Brandenburg Concertos frequently since I was a teenager in the 1970s that I can remember my first experience with it... that while I was being delighted I was somewhat confused on what Bach was doing. Aside from turning me away from Rock, that is.

Beautiful dialogue between all the soloists, irresistible dance rhythm in the last movement. At first I thought there was a bit too much rubato in the harpsichord solo, but he won me over with the clarity of the performance - each note was like crystal!

Incredible performance from all the different players. When listening to this piece played so well, it becomes an almost spiritual experience. The way JS Bach's music rises and falls, the changes in tone and cadence and the way they flow into each other, it is wonderful to listen to and for me there are only a few composers that compare. Sometimes I'm sad that a lot of my generation don't appreciate classical music and still see it as something elitist or "boring". It's so much the opposite of that! And technically it must be almost 300 years ahead of it's time.
@luvbach18 жыл бұрын

A minimal version in terms of number of prerformers. The solo violin is also the violin of the "orchestra". We must remeber that these concerti were designed for ducal chamber ensembles. They were cerianly closer to chamber music than to soloists and string orchestra. So, the option presented here is quite valid. The interpretation is abslutely outstanding.

He's good but I find his faster-slower tempo, especially the needlessly long pause before his solo in the fiest movement and the ultra-slow start, as if chiding the pace of the orchestra that just was playing, a bit pretentious, even prima-donna-ish. Brilliant fingering, tho!
