I have always loved Jarrett's jazz playing, but if I ever have an opportunity to walk up and thank him for anything, it will be for having performed these pieces. In his hands these suites are the highest form of musical rhetoric that I know. I have this music with me at all times.

Handel's suites for keyboard are some very enjoyable pieces of music and they are masterfully played by Keith Jarrett.
@dancoffey47388 жыл бұрын
this was my first introduction to Handel's keyboard music. I'm terribly grateful to Keith for making it accessable to me. A lot of baroque harpsichord music leaves me cold, but this is wonderfully musical to my taste. There's a woman named Daria Van dien Bercken who also allows me to understand and appreciate Handel.

Still the best Handel Suites on Piano out there.

This is the best recorded version of this suite by far.

Really? I have four versions of this suite played on a modern piano (including Jarrett's) and they are all different -- but I am honestly not sure if I can pick one out to be the one I like "best".
@secretmission7607 Жыл бұрын
@@victorlloyd5271 I've listened to a number of versions and, yes, for me Jarrett's is the best overall even if there are elements of other versions I prefer.

yes this is the best version, I had 8 different versiones and I try to play it in this way, its pure beauty

Sublime playing of Handel on a modern grand piano.

Very good - naturally. I like that, since he's playing piano, plays piano, and is not trying to make it sounds like anything else - pedal and all.

A reference, simply that. His phrasings and his tone are absolute mastership, and his style, while not on the Cembalo, captures the essence of Baroque! Genius. Compare with that this same suite played by Andrei Gavrilov in the EMI Recording of the event in Tours, Touraine, with Svjatoslav Richter when they played all the suites jointly. I do not make a comment here, for musiclovers to judge.
@MarkBradby Жыл бұрын
Gavrilov takes the Courante much faster- Jarret's contemplative treatment brings out an almost aching beauty that is missing if it is rushed through. Not that it is correct- the Courante is a dance and the similarity to Bach's french suites #2 and 5 (which are always played faster) is unmistakable.
@secretmission76075 ай бұрын
@@MarkBradby Yes indeed, the Courante 'should' be played faster, but something important is lost by doing so!

Keith Jarrett has been a Steinway & Sons Family artist since 1981 so this was recorded using a modern Steinway & Sons grand piano.

He's got what most of the "classical" palyers lack when they pretend to "re-read" the pieces: phrasing and the sense of the internal rythm of the music. That's what jazz is about after all...

yes, exactly. that's why I can appreciate and understand Handel when Keith plays him

Agree. I’ll just add that Sviatoslav Richter is an example of a classical player with amazing phrasing, and sense of the internal rhythms of the music. A friend recommended Jarrett’s WTC. Now I see why.

Amazing interpretation. Comparable to Christopher Wood's in its beauty and various sonorities. Perhaps more sensitive and delicate than other interpretations (in part, as it is on Pianoforte rather than Harpsichord). THANKS!
