Man.. I hope so. He seems like a good kid too. Arthur Smith and the Steelers QB coach are going to coach him up this year, while he watches Russell Wilson run the show. He's in a good spot with coach T now with all the pressure on Russell. Fields seemed a bit young and the Bears put too much on his shoulders too soon, in Chicago, IMO.. Some guys take a couple years for the game to slow down.

Kurt is very knowledgeable, but his takes are still filtered through his own experiences. Russ is different from any QB who has ever played in the league. His game is very unique. You’re not going to fully understand him until you’ve watched him over and over for multiple years. I’ve been watching QBs since the early 1970s, and I can say either complete certainty that there has never been a QB like Russ. That’s part of the problem. His skill set defies conventional thought. He can do a lot of things people think he cannot do, but coaches need to spend time at the table making it happen, just like Andy Reid had to figure out how to make Mahomes a better reader of defenses. Russ needs lanes to open up due to his height. A traditional O-Line doesn’t work for him. They have to hold their blocks longer in some instances, but they can do it without sustaining holding sells if schemed correctly. They need to block to create lanes and know when and how to release. But Kurt is right when he says there isn’t a throw Russ can’t make. Eisen is a Russ-hater who has been indoctrinated into a bunch of false narratives.

First off, the nfl, as a whole, need to give rookie QBs the time and flexibility to develop. Not everyone is a Mahomes. Sitting behind a veteran, learning what to do with the skills you have but also getting snaps in real time can make a first round QB a franchise QB. Most of the greats sat behind a veteran the first year(s)

Mahomes didn’t develop quickly. Russ is the example of a QB who developed quickly. He started from day-1 and was ready! Mahomes sat for a year behind Alex Smith, a QB Russ would have decisively beaten out in his own rookie year. Russ DWat Herbert Burrow Stroud Dak Purdy Those are your freshman phenoms! They came in ready to play at a high order as true rookies. Mahomes Allen Jackson Tua Hurts Lawrence They did not! They needed to sit because they weren’t ready.
@DeCurtaRican
@DeCurtaRican Ай бұрын
@@geraldinetunstalle6044: KC was 42-22 and in the four years under Alex Smith before Mahomes took over as starter. Mahomes had to sit because he had trouble reading defenses, and he needed an offense tailored to his skill set. They were legit SB contenders pretty much every year. Contrast that with the team the Seahawks had when Russ took over: 22-42 in the four seasons prior to Russ being drafted, and that included back-to-back 7-9 seasons in the two immediate years before Russ took over as starter as a true rookie. Those two 7-9 Seahawks teams? They had the LoB, Marshawn Lynch, and Matt Hasslebeck, a SB and three-time Pro Bowl QB. That’s why this narrative about the LoB being the reason for the Seahawks’ success in the first half of the 2010s is total bull.

There is a way to "grow" QBs. Put them in a system that they are good at. While they are comfortable, over the next 3 years or so the coaching staff teaches them the open-field concepts, how to read the receiver/defense situation, and then pick the best option for a target. Coaches need to set their players up for success. I hope the Bears do better by Caleb than they did for JF.

In the last game of one season vs the browns after the Steelers had the one seed. Mason looked great in that game. I'm in Carolina. Kurt Warner was not considered even an NFL QB until he was forced into the starting role until age 29. He was a QB2 and got his first start at age 28. Why was Warner overlooked, not drafted and had to play Arena football for 6 years, before getting a second look? As a Steeler fan.... did the Steelers really give Mason Rudolph (age 28) a fair chance to be QB1? Evidently, Bill Callahan was impressed and saw value in Mason and signed him when he had an option to sign Justin Fields and several other QBs that actually were QB1s on previous teams.

The Bears traded Fields to Pittsburgh for their own purposes as an organization, not because they cared so much about Justin Fields. They did it because Russ was there and they knew the likelihood of Fields starting, let alone playing well as the full-time starter, would be extremely low…virtually impossible. For their part, the Steelers could’ve pulled Fields any time if they thought he was better than Russ, or even close to being as good. But they signed Russ first and the Bears later offered Fields for a 6th-rounder. The Bears did that because they saw an opportunity for themselves to save face! The Bears need Fields sitting the bench and learning behind a QB he cannot unseat, not starting and playing well by some unimaginable fluke while Caleb Williams is struggling as a rookie. That would put noise around the Bears that the Bears don’t need. Imagine how bad the Bears would look if they jettisoned Fields for Caleb Williams and Williams played poorly or got injured while Fields became the full-time starter somewhere else and magically killed it. They couldn’t have that. They know a lot of their fan base and locker room didn’t want Fields traded. So, what do they do? They trade him to the Steelers after they find out that the new Steelers’ QB is Russ! When the presumptive 2024 starter was Kenny Pickett, the Bears had no interest in sending Fields to Pittsburgh, because they knew Fields would either start or see significant playing time. They could’ve offered up Fields to Pittsburgh for a #6 at any time in the postseason but they didn’t, even though Fields had advised them late in the season (well before Russ signed) that he wanted to go to Pittsburgh. Fields requested Pittsburgh when Pickett was still the Steelers’ presumptive starting QB because he felt he could beat out Pickett. After Russ signed with Pitts and the Bears wanted to send Fields there, Fields didn’t want to look scared, so he went with it. But you can bet that Fields privately wishes that he would’ve been traded elsewhere. Btw, to compare Russ to Alex Smith is crazy! Smith had no chance of holding off Mahomes for more than a year. Russ can have the Steelers’ spot for another 4-5 years if he does things correctly, and the educated guess is that he will.

Kurts evaluation is not complete because he had worse tools to work with ever. Kurt never played with players as bad as Justin did. Justin's value is not the issue the Bears leverage is the issue. The Bears are cheap franchise ask wilbur marsha, Al Harris, Todd Bell and on and on and on. How do Bears know what franchise QB is. They never had one, never developed one. lol this is laughble. Kurt is QB of days gone by. Kurt is not the prototype today. Caleb played against inferior talent. Justin did same things in college against better talent and same things in NFL. FACTS!

The Pittsburgh Steelers have a top 5 defense and adding queen and a few key guys coming back from injury are offense doesn't have to score a bunch of points because of are defense but we need more than one TD a game to win bringing Russ and Justin we just broke the NFL are team is full of talent I hope are new oc can put points on the board and ground and pound the Steelers way Kenny Pickett should have stayed and shut up and learn he's definitely not a team player he said it was Time to leave which makes no sense for a QB he's not much of a team player talking it was time yes it was time to put up or shut up and Mason maid him shut up and cry his way out of his best chance of starting for the team by Kenny

5-1 in the division last season, with a shit oc, dicey qbs, no ilbs, slow corners and a centre that can't snap a ball. Its the other divisions we need to worry about, the bills, cheifs etc. If we can win even 7 or 8 of those games well be fine. Reaching the playoffs never been an issue. Winning them, a bigger issue for sure. But we're arguably a better team now, so let's see what happens.

Art [The Chief] and his son, Dan, would be turning over in their graves...This is not the way Pittsburgh Steelers do/did things... My and Your Steelers use to have good integrity. They did not buy, sell or trade for star players...My Steelers made Star players. EVERY year since the SEVENTIES the Steelers, the way they did business WORKED just fine and EVERY year, win lose or draw the Steelers were ALLWAYS a team to recon with and THAT right there is the #1 reason they have the fan base they have.. Kinda Looks Like The Steelers Organization Is Selling Out There Soul, To Get There, "Stairway to Seven"
