I had a college show too. Husker Du, Meat Puppets, the Cure, Violent Femmes, The Smiths, REM were regular rotation then they'd let the DJ put in anything they wanted. I was a dirty 25 yr old punk kid traveling by train from Portland to NY and was sitting outside the Chicago train station. A man that looked as if he had lived three lives of travel and partying approached me and struck up conversation about the patches of various bands I had sewn on my sweatshirt. I braced myself for yet another scam or person begging for money. But they introduced themselves and it was Grant. I was so ashamed for not being super familiar with him or his band because I was aware of their significance. He didn't really talk about Husker Du, but he was really sweet, and was just asking me about being a young punk (this was maybe around 2009) and what my life at shows in northern CA and Portland were like. When I'd ask about the band he'd give a few details but then steer the conversation elsewhere, with a ton of punk info. I guess I don't really have a point, I just wanted to share, that at that moment in time Grant made an impression on me. And I left feeling really stoked on life and proud of the life that I was living despite not always feeling that way.

@@retromuel yeah they were but there impact wasn't really felt until late 80s early 90s. That's what I meant by "making it popular." I guess I just used poor wording. Have a phenomenally great week!

@@retromuel True. REM didnt have the crazy punk vibe I guess. Replacements/REM/Husker were a different shade of the same style...

I moved to another country kinda forced by my gf because she got pregnant by accident and she wanted some support from her family(she's from another country). I quit my job, which was netting me some good money and for the very first time I was saving some, left many friends behind and a city I adored. Now I'm on a shitty town 3000 km away from the people and places I know speaking a whole different language I'm struggling to learn, having a shitload of marital problems which makes me ask myself if its worth it to go on, not getting any job after wallpapering the whole city with CV's, quite broke after the last month of rent, with no friends nor family around to talk, and with absolutely nothing to do. It's being really hard to get some motivation to get out of bed these days, even for getting something to eat, since I'm struggling to adapt myself to this new reality. I'm feeling lost and hopeless... But I got these guys, and that makes no sense at all, but it helps.

I have been a fan of Husker Du since the 80's, & just like they sang when this song was first released, the world "STILL" doesn't make any sense at all.
