Ideally, Hila could fulfill that role by herself, but she just isn't knowledgeable on a fair number of topics, so Dan provides the second line of defense, followed by Ian, and then Zack. I don't think Dan, specifically, is essential to the show, but someone competent in that role kind of is? I do laugh when Ethan says something ridiculous and it cuts to him facepalming hard, rubbing his eyes and stuff.

People love to hate on H3 because they "sold out" or whatever, but they never started making videos to become rich. They didn't make a plan to become public figures, people just liked what they put out and became fans. Of course if you're on a platform where you can monetize content why wouldn't you? The very reason they live in a 9 million house is because you watched their videos, shouldn't you be glad they're successful? It's basically the hipster complex. "X" is fine and cool and one of us until he does something I don't like because his popularity also brought him wealth. Yeah, I only liked H3 before they were rich. Like, fuck you. As if you're the epitome of humbleness or something and if YOU were Ethan you wouldn't even monetize your content or take sponsorship deals and YOU would definitely not move and upgrade a little and maybe try to start a business. Of course they fucking would. The only people who actually wouldn't just click that box that means you're gonna be getting a check just by uploading what you were gonna upload anyways are foolish. Like you wouldn't read 5 paragraphs a company sent you to read on camera for thousands of dollars. Unless they were already wealthy of COURSE they would. You wouldn't only be stubborn not too it's honestly a stupid decision. This is fucking America. Where if you want to entertain people and they like it enough to deal with some advertising that the platform is getting money for and they're offering you a slice of the pie? No not you. I love this podcast (and the h3 main channel) and I've been a fan for years but there's been times where I've been put off by the show. My main issue I've come across is that Ethan clearly doesn't know much about politics yet some of these podcasts have devolved into hours long rants where he's presenting his opinion as hard facts and gets offended when people call him out for it. I think the structure of the show has definitely changed too (especially with how integral the behind the scenes guys have become) and when Dan started coming on camera more I didn't really care for it because I always liked just Ethan and Hila but I've come to like Dan and Zach and Ian. Also, in some ways the show has just flat out gotten boring (rarely any guests anymore and half the shows are just self referential topics that have nothing to do with anything outside the h3 studio or Ethan and Hilas own lives). I don't think them being "sellouts" is even a main reason for the hate they get, I think the people calling them sellouts are just the most vocal group against h3 while other people who are turned off in the ways I have been just silently unsubscribe and don't watch the videos again.
