There is no shortage of things to try, things to explore, things to dial in. a big question for me is if I'll replace the MA1000 with these new Armstrong HAv2 wings. The MA's made me progress into so much more of a fun carving style in 2023... do the new HA's let me do what I could do with the MA's? will the new HA's take me to better place? everything is a give and take... you have to ask yourself: what aligns with what you want to do right now?? so the more I use and like the new 680 and other HA's, I wonder if they just add to my quiver in certain areas or will they replace everything? reentry into the water when jumping, the "breach resistance" and the speed... can I live with a little less of any of these if it adds more to another?
and you can change one tail and start it all over...
so with everything I add to the quiver, more and more possibilities. what dragon are you chasing?!?
Gear in this video:
FOne Origin wing 4.5m
v1 75L Armstrong FG board
HA680 foil
795 mast
60 fuse
180 tail (red and blue shim)
5:4 Mahulu Elliptio Stormrider wetsuit
8mm Solite Custom Fire 2.0 boots
Kaoli 7' board leash, padded leash belt

I found the MA reconnectes better after a jump enabling you to land without the board touching down. The new HAs dont do that as easily and the board is more likely to hit the water. The MA1000 is an awesome foil for jumping

YES! I 100% agree so far. the v2's are much better than the v1's but the MAs are the best for jump recovery. my question is can I get away with the new v2's instead of the MA1000. will I really be missing the MA1000? it's hard to say... it's still March and I really don't do a lot of jumping when the water is cold around here. but one of the next session I can, i will try to do a back to back with the v2 HA's and the MA's and see how they feel. it's been about 3 months since I've been on the MA1000 so I'm eager to try it again. thanks for the comment bud and I wish you an awesome rest of your day!

Thanks for sharing. 680 is a great foil. Currently using the 680 with the 205 for lighter winds and 140 for bigger waves/wind, both with blue shim @83 kg

totally agree! last x2 sessions I used the 205 and that's my new fav for that foil in waves. the 180 and 140 are great too, but that extra control is really nice and makes me a lot more solid in transitions. I ride everything with a red and a blue shim... I've heard a lot of different methods and opinions on the shim subject... I should try less, especially with the 180 and 140. maybe with less shim it feels less skatey, and the skateyness is fun but I only want it sometimes. my wing dealer has a 580 coming any day that he's going to send for me to demo. I'm stoked on that one... slightly higher aspect ratio, I'm totally curious about if it's going to feel like the 680 or a little different. more soon! I wish you an awesome day bud!

Killing it! That 680 is pure magic, my favorite by far. I have also been prone foiling the 880 and it is also a winner, and using the 1080 as a light wind foil. So good. Cheers brah

thanks! stoked on it too bud! I ditched the 780 cause the 680/880 combo covers a lot of bases. I've been using the 880 for foil SUP and it's been great. and I just picked up an 1180 for the dw board. have you tried the 580? super curious. slightly higher aspect ratio.

@@OCEANBOUND1 I have not used the 580 but would love to. I towed overhead waves on the 680 and never felt overfoiled, and even connected four waves off one pull. The 680 pumps really well for such a small foil

Would be great to see realistically how much light wind the HA 680 can get up in with say a 5m sail without having to go larger. Keep up the great content 💪💯

that's def on my agenda! next chance I have I wanna ride the MA1000 and 680 back-to-back for a MA/HA showdown, winner stays in the quiver. well the 680 is def staying so it's really all about if I can get by without the 1000. thanks bud, I wish you an awesome weekend!

I noticed also (maybe I am wrong) that when you do a sharp turn on the MA it looses speed and glide while the HA comes out of the turn with glide and speed.

I agree! the new HA's have a really nice and noticeable "up" pump and I think when you use that on some banking turns, it helps you turn tighter and makes you feel like you are cranking the turn and even accelerating.

The new origin looks awesome in that color way . sweet man loved that one, Bad man back in the bay. Again you making me spend more money haha I'm really going to have to try the waist leash for the wing and give the handle pass thing a try, personally i can see how useful it will be on a wave . thanks for sharing and putting all the hard work into these films . Stay stoked brother later

haha thanks bro! always enjoy seeing yr comments pop up. this was actually last year's wing, I was not able to keep the demos but I hope to get back down there in the next month. the waist leash... I've fought it for a whole cause I never loved the calf leash, but after revisiting it, it's not so bad so it's game on for the wing to the waist. seeing those rippers in the GWAs do a 360 while riding a wave is truly inspiring, I dunno if I'll get there but passing the wing behind the back is totally appealing on a wave with out the 360 too. I hope y'all are getting some time on the water! it feels like Spring around here, which is great, but not sure if that's here to stay. Spring winds usually means East winds and swell, so fingers crossed we get the good stuff a little early this year! I wish you and the crew an amazing weekend Chris!!

@OCEANBOUND1 sweet man yes passing the wing behind while moving down the waves and bumps changing direction just makes sense to me but I too hate the angel leash but I will do it this next week juggle my leashes round for a try . We where out a fair bit kites and wing o e no wind sesh and a 40 mph plus day a little footage drops tomorrow. Have a great weekend 😀

Thanks for the video.. Remind me your weight? i have been getting fairly comfortable on the 1125 lately at 200 lbs, 211 with gear on before i get wet. i have been thinking of a 980/780 combo, starting with 980 as first front foil and eventually getting the 780.. What are your thoughts on those sizes? I am not jumping at all yet just working on surfing wind chop, pump and glide, heel and toeside tacks etc. Ohh.. what was the wind approx.. looked pretty windy.
@OCEANBOUND1
@OCEANBOUND1 6 ай бұрын
sup bud, and thanks! I'm around 77kg gear-less. I think you have a good plan, 780/980 combo. I'm pretty sure you could make the 880 work as an all-arounder if you only got one. yr gonna love the pump and glide of the 980. this session the wind was prolly 25mph on avg but there were huge lulls and a lot of higher gusts. the signs in the parking lot really only go that crazy when it's over 25.

Yea buddy, amazing how quick that new HA clears ventilation and puts you back on foil. I need that. How are there no whitecaps out there? Lol Nice flakka attempt, that Wing pass looked promising!
@OCEANBOUND1
@OCEANBOUND1 6 ай бұрын
yeah the new HA is actually doing better than I thought it would as far as clearing bubbles. that's a great sign for sure. and no whitecaps cause of the rockwall, but I promise it was windy! that bay is about 1/2 mile across, and when you ride on the other side there is like 1.5ft chop on days like this. the kiters mostly ride the glass inside the wall, the wingers seem to gravitate more towards the middle... it's still relatively flat in the middle. and thanks about the flakka. I'm not sure I'll ever get those, but it's nice to keep passively trying a few every flatwater sesh. I wish you an awesome weekend bud! I hope you get some wind and can shred with other wingers!

Hi Jeremy, thanks for another great video. I am thinking if I should replace my MA1000 or keep it. I dont jump. Most of my sessions are in winds over 25 knots with bumps which in some spots convert into a breaking wave up to head high or more. The 780 has much more glide and allow you to park the wing and carve the bumps which I love. But I had not the chance to test it on a wave. Does tha 780 carves as good as the MA on the wave when you have the power and speed of the wave pushing you? If thats the case and as I do not jump I should maybe replace the MA1000 with the 780 or maybe even with the 680 juts because most of my sessions and on bumps but of course I want it also to be abe to handle surf in waves. Maybe also adding the 205 surf makes it more carvy under controlled in bigger conditions. Thx a million mate :-)

sup bud! one of my next things to test is the MA1000 and the HA680 back-to-back. I really think and hope it will be a good matchup, and I'd love to get rid of the MA1000 if possible. I rode the 680 the last 2 wave days with the 205 and I love that setup for waves. nimble but more locked in than the 180 and 140. that will be my go-to waves setup. when I'm on wave power, I can pump and accelerate, which is really nice tyoo. so I like everything about it, I just need to compare the two in the same sesh to finally put this to bed. more soon.

Demo’d the 780 the other day… wow what an incredible foil. The low speed envelope was outrageous… obvs there is a sacrifice which is the high speed but hey… I can forgive that…😉🏄🏽‍♀️🌊. Stay frosty J man ..🤘🏽

yeah dude I TOTALLY agree. if I only could have one, that is THE ONE to get. the problem is I really like the 680 and 880 but for different reasons, so I'm keeping those two and passed on the 780 to a happy convert. for speed, I totally agree. I think I'll def keep my MA800 for the days I need to be lit and go the fastest. thanks bud I wish you an awesome rest of your weekend!

I’d love to see a video on leash options. I’m riding with my board leash on the back of my waist and wing on wrist but those handle passes are so annoying to pre wind or unwind! I don’t know what I should change to. Looks like maybe your wing is on a slider rope behind your back? I also hate stepping on my board leash which never happens with it on my waist.
@OCEANBOUND1
@OCEANBOUND1 6 ай бұрын
I'm with you, I hate stepping on my board leash. and when I started winging, I was on my knees more and I really disliked using the calf leash cause it was uncomfortable when I was kneeling. but these behind the back handle passes I've been seeing lately are so cool I had to try it again. Roy from Kaohi leashes sent me a 7' 8mm grip leash for my board, and so far the coil has stayed off the board. leashes do get stretched out, so that could change, but for now I'm totally good with it. I also have a Kaohi padded belt and a wing leash that you can attach to the belt via carabiner or just the normal wrist cuff. so I'm digging the current setup, there's a little to get used to at first but in general nothing I'm hating about it. maybe one of the next few sessions I can talk about it in a video! I have done that once or twice but it ended up getting cut out in the edit. thanks for the comment bud, and I wish you an awesome day!!
