WOW...that's a valuable package. I run a haas mini at work. It's a good machine. Going at 10k all the time wears out the bearings though.

Is there any research done on quantity of parts needed to make this machine worth it? Like if I setup the machine for 1 part it's a complete waste of time vs 100 part then maybe worth the extra time. It'd be a lot easier to justify buying a part picker if I knew it was suitable for the qtys we deal with

I guess you have too many variables here that would make a calculation difficult. Basically with this type of APL you can run only OP10 parts or parts, that can be held square for OP20. Loading soft jaws is possible, but oftentimes it's the gripper that restricts. If you need another set of gripper jaws, that will increase the parts needed to operate efficiently. In my experience it's not only the number of parts produced, but the freedom your worker at the machine gets. What can this worker do, if he does not need to feed a machine all 2/5/10 (whatever) minutes. If you have tasks to be done, automation can be an option, even with small batches. I know companies that automate with pallet solutions down to 1 part per batch.

What tolerances can the mini mill hold? Your competitor SYIL claims .0004". This is important to me as a small mold engineer.

Thats such a wishy claim though. So many machine makers make such claims. But what tool, material, temperature, stickout, tool holder, etc are you using and in what condition? You would need absolute perfect conditions and consistency to lean on that. I wouldn't ever bank on milling paths holding .0004. You're talking wire EDM if you need to rely on tolerances staying in the 4th decimal.

I write CAM post processors day to day and get to visit many different shops. I frequently see customers with Hermle, Roeders, and Makino mills (among others) get +- .0002 tolerances on parts all day long. So it's totally doable with the right machine

.0004” isn’t that hard of a tolerance to hold. Good tooling and test run your program a few times to get it dialed in.

I've heard the mini mill isn't capable of repeating +-0.0005. That is coming from someone who is a mold maker. Again, this isn't my personal experience, but I thought it's worth mentioning. I also don't know the details of the setup. Rigidity and tool hangout can change repeatability drastically

Haas is so far off the map it's not even funny. We're going with Mazak. The Doosans we got are garbage and DMG Mori's are just as bad. Even the "DN solutions" (formerly known as Doosan) said we should got one have after spending a TON of money on them. All of our Haas' are getting phased out. If I had my way they'd all be replaced with Mazak machines.

Yeah, I ran MAZAK's all Day at my last Job. Definitely Work Horses, now in this present Job all Haas.😅
