I find these videos to be very helpful, thank your for creating and posting. At 0:56 there are two long tools installed in adjacent turret positions, a drill, and a tap. I learned it's best to separate long tools into every other position to minimize the risk of one striking the chuck jaws while the other is in use. Was that done for the video or is that less of an issue with the quick change collet chuck?

So I guess my questions are: when using program start g codes like G18, G20, G40, G54, G80, G90, G97, and G99 which is what I learned for the standard haas lathe. Is there any that we need to change or add to the start of a program? I assume G18 might change but I’m not sure. Or can it start the same? And does 2 axis machines do the same that a standard lathe does then more? Stupid question I know but how would you shape a raw stock material if x and z are two different turrets? Is their a g code that makes the z axis default to a standard lathe for shaping of stock then cancel it to go back to 2 axis machining? I know lots of questions with probably simple answers but I only finished the CNC operator and am almost done with the technical diploma. I want to get ahead for when I go to programmer for Swiss CNC. Plus I’m curious lol
@markterryberry44773 жыл бұрын
All of our standard Safe Startup Line G-codes will be the same. We will want to be sure to return to our standard G18 XZ plane when we want to do Turning. This is easy to forget after we switch to G19 or G17 for Live-Tool Milling.

@haasautomation6 жыл бұрын
Xmaswitguns - If you have an Y-axis lathe, you can just set an XYZ offset for that tool that will take care of things, putting the tool on-center (be sure to call an XYZ for the tool in your program). Check out this lathe setup video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/j6CUe2iOjN5qbrs. I've tried using... - M14/15 - M19C# - M133P#/M135 - M154/155 - G01/G81 I do not WANT the spindle to turn during Radial Drilling with Live Tooling... All I want is a F'ING example of Radial Drilling with Live Tooling before the Ver 11 changes because we've all been abandoned by HAAS.

Hey Mark, What's a Y-axis lathe?
@markterryberry44774 жыл бұрын
On a Y-Axis lathe, the entire turret wedge is mounted on an additional y-axis, allowing the whole turret to move forward and back (Y) as well as up and down (X) and left and right (Z). This makes setting up certain tools really simple, and allows us to run axial and radial milling operations in a way that more resembles a milling machine. Very versatile.

How to done Tapping operation in CNC Lathe..?
@Guranga937 жыл бұрын
is it possible to drill in the center along Z with the main spindle and live tooling at the same time? Example the main spindle have 5000 rpm and livetool have 6000 rpm combining them together increase the "max rpm" for live tool to 11000rpm And before anyone asks yes i use google to write in english haha
@josecarlosquintas41007 жыл бұрын
Guranga93 Yes, it is. I do it every time to drill soft materials, as brass or aluminum. That allows to increase the feed rate too.
@sp1nrx7 жыл бұрын
Yes. The technique you ask about was done on Automatic Screw Machines for decades. It speeds up the operation by combining speed rates. It's especially effective with small drills in tough material. Whether the Haas control allow this I don't know.
@71brp846 жыл бұрын
Yes, of course. That's exactly why they have S for main spindle speed and P for driven tool speed.😉

Changing a lathe tool pocket and attaching a drill pocket. How do you tell the machine that's a drill tool? Is it as simple as changing the X offset? Other brands you tell the machine it's a drill pocket and it's offset 0 zero.
@markterryberry44774 жыл бұрын
On a Haas Lathe we have an F2 Centerline function for on-center tools like Drills and taps. From the Tool Offset Page we can press F2 and it will automatically set the proper X value for us.

@jusmurkin4 жыл бұрын
If this machine does milling as well why do you call it a lathe with live tooling and not a mill/turn? Unless for some reason you can't use endmills (I'm not seeing why you couldn't) I don't see why you wouldn't call it a mill/turn.
@robbiejames15403 жыл бұрын
I guess if a lathe has live tooling, but only two axes and/or only indexing capability on the spindle instead of full rotary axis movement it would have live tooling, but little milling capability. Idk if this applies to this machine tho.
@danielkalinowski51575 жыл бұрын
you also forgot what codes do what? z=plane g83 drill/g84 tap/g85 ream x plane g86 drill g87 tap g88 ream (tapping you need to use a sync code. fanuc is m29 just above the g84/g87 cycle. need to call up the spindle speed twice, usually
@haasautomation5 жыл бұрын
Daniel - These are some of the nice things about Haas machines. No need to call up a Sync Code when tapping on a Haas, like you would on other machines. The Haas machine does this for us. And on a Haas, we don’t want to start the spindles before tapping (M03..), we just command the rpm with an S code, as the Haas machine starts the spindle for us, only when tapping, to save time. Good things to look out for on other machines though. - Mark, Haas Tip-of-the-day

Been a machinist for roughly 12 years. Have done manual work, CNC mill, and CNC lathe work. Haas is by far the most "foreign" when it comes to codes and "Intuitive" programming. Sorry, but I hate Haas
@haasautomation7 жыл бұрын
Miguel -As an Applications guy, we used to get a ton of calls from customers who had crashed their machines - having forgotten to change their planes (G17/G18/G19), when live-tool drilling, or to change them back with done. I think what Haas has done is tried to protect the programmer and the machinist from those kinds of crashes. You just choose your cycle and go. Simple.
