Hi Robin - I am in complete agreement about the value of routines. They keep me organized and on track and take a lot of the "thinking" out of our daily life. I have found that they are particularly helpful during seasons of upheaval such as moving, grief, and transitions to a new stage of life. They are the familiar & comforting patterns that keep us moving along. I read a fascinating book years ago called "The Checklist Manifesto" written by a man who is a surgeon. The book examines the many uses of checklists for routine tasks by pilots, military personnel, surgeons, etc. I created several checklists for some of my routines, laminated them, and can just check things off with a wet-erase pen. This ensures that I don't miss an important step or task and lets my mind focus on other things while I get basic things accomplished. You have pointed this out before, but I found routines very helpful when our children were young too. Enjoy your springtime before the weather gets too hot!

I'm so glad you talked about how to use gloves! I am appalled by the way people use them! I had a dentist scratch his arm and touch all kinds of things and then work on my mouth wearing the same pair of gloves. I was horrified and never went back there. Also at the deli counter, people think they can blow their nose and touch all kinds of surfaces but because they have gloves on covering their hands it's ok to go and touch the lunchmeat and cheese! They don't get it that they have to actually change their gloves. They need to remove their gloves and blow their nose (and preferably wash their hands first) but then put on a new pair, or wash the gloves. I could go on and on about this subject! :) It's common sense, but sadly that is lacking these days.

Hi Robin! I'm glad you had a wonderful holiday with your family. What I'm working on for the next season of my life is two-fold: 1) like you, washing winter sweaters, coats, hats, mittens, and boots and getting my spring & summer clothes out of storage and 2) decluttering as we prepare to retire and downsize.
@lindabudzik9583
@lindabudzik9583 Жыл бұрын
As you prepare to retire, I’d like to suggest you try time blocking your schedule. It’s ver6 easy to fall into the "I’ve got all the time in the world, I’ll do that later (or tomorrow)." It’s a tough habit/trap to get out of. Trust me…I know from experience and wish the concept of time blocking was a thing when I retired, but it wasn’t yet. Happy retirement! 🎉🎈🎉

I love your videos. I also love routines (alright I fall off track frequently) then just jump back into it. Your videos reminds me of my “why” I want to keep jumping back into my routines. I relate to you so much in that, well I love routines, I have an autistic young adult son (and I have a young adult daughter who is not autistic), I love my microfiber Norwex cloths, I also don’t wear gloves to clean toilets, I have one set of sheets and also wash and put back on the bed same day and I love God. All of these things make you videos so unique to me and look forward to watching them every Sunday as part of my self care. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and lifestyle with us.

Thank you for another cleaning video packed full of motivational tips. This year I am aiming to becoming more of a minimalist and am trying to adopt the rule of one thing in one thing out...especially when it comes to shoes or clothing. I have donated or thrown away things that we are no longer using. My home is so much easier to clean and manage now.

Appreciated you sharing about the shower schroom, because our plastic hair catcher in the shower had a small part of it snap off some weeks ago and needs replacing or fixing. If we can't repair it with special glue, then we will try the metal shower schroom. It looks really good. Enjoy the rest of your week and thanks again for all your great videos. May God richly bless you and your family. I'm glad you know Jesus too. What a great God and Saviour He is. xx

... I hope you had a wonderful time during your Vacation, and it's nice to see you're back and sharing on your Channel. As a former Professional Housekeeper, my way of cleaning a bathroom is top to bottom, I start on the left side of the room, working to the right side. .. when it comes to toilets, I always used- still do ,even though I no longer do that line of work- disposable gloves, that are latex free ... the toilet is one of the last things done, nothing is cross contaminated, the gloves are thrown away. ( that may not be " liked " by some who feel it's ' adding trash ",however, I find it more sanitary than washing my hands after cleaning a toilet, lol) . I then use an extra pair to scrub the floor , and it's all done. This is for a " deep clean ", once a week or every two weeks, depending. Of course,for simple maintenance, you probably don't need gloves, just a good wash of hands with hot water , using a good hand soap or hand sanitizer to wash. I love that you hang up so many things to dry them, I've done it for many years, very little goes in the dryer , other than towels, sheets, throw rugs, etc. Have a great week ahead, be Blessed.

Hello Robyn glad you had a lovely holiday. I really love your channel because your videos help me manage my own home without the stress and frantic running around like a headless chicken like I used to do! I know it is the thing these days to do laundry daily but like you I love the sense of accomplishment I get when I get things done and finished for the week. I find concentrating early part of the week helps me dry all my washing outside on my clothes lines even though I'm in Northern Ireland and it might rain on a couple of days of the week! I gave our tumble drier away because I only used it to dry the dogs teddies! We can dry things indoors on lines in the garden room/conservatory if we need to and I am going to create a hanging space there so I can avoid folding and ironing as much as possible... I see this as a win win and I so love having the laundry done for the week! One of the jobs I hate most is folding fitted sheets so I'm going to get my bedlinen washed dried and back on the bed in one streamlined swoop so I can avoid that torture too! Oh how i love your routines and tips Robyn.... thank you! ❤😊 Love vera

Always a pleasure seeing your routines Robin! I, too, have been arranging a few new tweaks to my cleaning routine right now, to get ready for the summer. Adding in a few spring cleaning projects, and then will settle back into my regular weekly routine once all of the extras from spring cleaning are done. (Vacuuming the blinds, washing drapes, pulling out and cleaning behind appliances, things like that etc.) I see your OXO dispensing scrub brush; have you ever had issues with it? I seem to keep having issues with mine breaking; I have ordered three in the last couple of years, and each one has failed….maybe I’m too vigorous with it lol! 😄 I just ordered the steel OXO one; lets see how that does. Perhaps a little more sturdy. Let me know if you have had to reorder yours too. Hope you’re having a beautiful Monday; I just got a chance to watch you. Love the idea of the composter. I have never been able to keep up with trying to compost outside. While it's cost prohibitive now. It may not be in the future. Good to know that companies are coming up with some awesome ideas like this. Many people do container gardening and only need a small amount of compost. I've had the countertop compost buckets, but they smell and grow fuzz very quickly. I'll be keeping an eye out for this to get cheaper.

Hi Robin! Yes, even if we enjoy vacation time, it’s always good to be back home! I agree with what you said about not cleaning the toilet with gloves. I rarely use gloves for that task, but if I do, then I wash the gloves while I’m wearing them, as if I was washing my hands! I’m slowly “spring cleaning” our home, room by room. I can’t put away or swap clothes now since we get summer weather for a couple of days, then cold spring/winter days next! My current big project is to establish an “official” homemaking program, that is create agendas for all the routines (daily, weekly and seasonally) I have to do, including hobbies, rest times, spiritual times, etc. I have tried yours and others, over the last 2 years, trying to find my own way. My big problem is that each time I was about to do it, create my program as I call it, an unexpected event threw me off course for a while. I dare write that it made me asks myself if God was not trying to teach me something, but I can’t figure it out! 🤔 I say this because the unexpected event was always a request for help in God's service! It was nice to see you back home and I'm happy to have learn a few new cleaning tips! I wish you a blessed week! 😊😊💙💙💖💖💛💛

Hi Monique and Theresa! I love that you are developing your own routine and system. I think that taking the parts that work for you from systems such as the Fly Lady and others is a great way to come up with a successful routine. I am constantly interrupted too and can get frustrated, but I try to "go with the flow" and adjust accordingly. It's not perfect, but usually I can get back on track within a week or two. Keep working on it - and remember that most of the time "good enough is good enough"! 😄😉 God bless! 💗🌸💕

@@FaithandFlour Thank you so much for your answer! I needed help, and you generously provided it! Thank you, Robin, for sharing that you are constantly interrupted but that you adjust and are able to get back on track within a week or two. To me, this is very useful as I feel that when I get interrupted, that means the end of my program, and I get discouraged and see it as a failure. Knowing that you face the same challenges but are able to go on nonetheless is tremendously helpful! Thanks also for reminding me that “good enough is good enough”! Thank you so much Cindy! I am constantly growing my hair out and then cutting it all off! It's a cycle I've been in for years! 😂🙈 I've decided to let it grow for a while longer and yes - there are some long layers, but I'm due for a trim and might ask for even more layers to lift some of the weight. I also like having my hair longer in the hot months so that I can wear it up and out of the way. I hope you are having a great start to you week! God bless!💗🌸💕

I am all about routines as they keep me “mindlessly” on track- meaning that because they are so routine, I don’t even have to think about any of it because now it’s more habit than a boring routine. I work outside the home Monday-Thursdays, so Friday and Saturdays are my cleaning and laundry days. Friday is sheets and towels and scrubbing everything, Saturdays is clothes and vacuuming/mopping. Because everything is a habit now, it takes no time to get all of it done and I do this first thing in the morning after my quiet time with God m, I get up at 4am every day-job alarm has me now waking up the same time every day even without the alarm, my husband is up at 4:30am to get ready for work and when he leaves I start the cleaning and laundry. I am usually finished in about 2 hours on Fridays except the sheets and towels and an hour on Saturdays except laundry takes about 3 hours not including what I hang dry. Again, routines become ingrained habits and I only wear gloves when washing dishes or painting for the same reason you have! Always enjoy your videos Robin!

Hello Robyn, have you considered wearing disposable gloves when you clean the toilet? Also, I think you should use at least 2 wipes between the toilet cover, the toilet seat and under the toilet seat. Your method seems to be spreading the germs around.

Hi Robin - so glad to see you back among the bluebonnets. That’s quite a transition from the Alps of Switzerland to the bluebonnets of Texas. But I know you’re happy to be home. I used to change my sheets and just put the same ones back on but I found out that I’m already tired from the day by the time it’s time to make the bed in the evening so now I’ve just been putting the clean sheets directly on and washing the sheets and folding them up later. I remember having so much laundry when I was a young mother. It’s kind of funny now but I only have one or two loads a week. My daughters laugh because I have a king size bed and I put the clean sheets on there and I sleep on one side of the bed for one week and then I switch to the other side of the bed for a week and that way I only have to wash sheets once every two weeks. For Mother’s Day the girls are all coming to help me work on my deck. It needs to be power washed and I bought some product to clean some mold off places. Also we’re going to try to restore all my patio furniture. And plant a lot of potted plants out there. Nowadays I have people that come and mow my yard and keep up the trimming and the flowerbeds cleaning but I just like to have things on my deck that I can tend to myself. Also I have windows across the back of the house that I always keep the curtains open and I like to look out on the deck and see all the lush green and colorful flowers. That’s about all I have planned for the changing season. I really need to get a grip on my weight again. I was doing really good there for a while but I have totally backslidden. I don’t know why that has to be a constant battle but it is. Anyway, Thank you for this video and for being so conscientious all the time. You bring a lot of joy to this old lady. Love in Christ.

Yes, routines are important. I usually do our laundry on Tuesdays or as needed. I only have one set of bedding for each bed. I'm hoping we can move to our own property. The house is already furnished. We're the owners so Lee can bring his cat and we make the rules so won't kick ourselves out due to our autistic son's disruptive behavior. Just need to set up the utilities and get a vehicle. I didn't have a credit score so I'm working on building it. Right now I have needs work on TransUnion and fair on Equifax. Need it higher to get better rates.

Another beautiful video🥰. I'm wondering if you have an herb garden. I know you love to cook with them. I was thinking how functionally beautiful rosemary and spearmint and thyme or whatever you like would be in those planters by your door. As a bonus you and your guests would get a fragrant welcome every time they come through! These 3 winter well in NC and I use them all year.
@FaithandFlour
@FaithandFlour Жыл бұрын
Thank you! I love that idea and I am considering growing some herbs in our backyard. Now that we are in Texas, it is a little more difficult to grow delicate herbs that can't withstand the heat, but I have found that rosemary and basil generally do very well. Our porch is completely shaded, so I think the hostas will be perfect and will fill out and give our entrance a nice pop of green - as long as I can keep the deer from snacking on them! 😂🌿💚

Hi, I was surprised to see that you were able to wash your cashmere sweaters in the washing machine. And it looks like you have cashmere specific wash soap. I just purchased two cashmere sweaters for the first time for the coming fall and winter. While my machine is a top load unit, it does NOT have an agitator and I can set a delicates/gentle cycle. But what about the spin cycle? Do you just set that at Low as well? I have the same drying rack that I can lay them out on. I’ve had it for probably 30 years and use it for tee shirts mostly. Does the cashmere get any pilling from gentle machine washing? I would love to not have to hand wash them if possible! Thank you for any tips you can provide.

However, what does one need 5 compartments for in a washing machine? 😮 I have 3, pre-wash, wash, softener - and I don't use any of them because it can get so gross inside where you can't reach it. (Only washing powder with the laundry, nothing else.) But 5? What more than washing detergent and softener can one use? 😂😂

@FaithandFlour
@FaithandFlour Жыл бұрын
Hi Jackie! I have our pots elevated on a stand and the water does run through, but it can drain through the boards on our porch and usually evaporates quickly because our climate is dry. I do have to be careful that the water doesn't sit on the porch for too long because it can stain the wood. I am thinking of adding some dishes to the bottom for that reason and because it will allow the plants to soak up any excess water over time and waste less water. I just need to find the right size and color. 😄💗🌸💕
