Amazing game today. I was at the game today and was really impressed with the team defense. They looked like they finally figured out how effective they can be when they play defense as a team. They beat a really good team. Also, it was fun to walk out of the arena with my Canadiens jersey and feel the pride!

Great forechecking won this game, the Habs gave them very little space to gain momentum. The Knights usually close their games in the third but the Habs persistent forechecking shut them down. If the Habs stay healthy and play with this intensity along with solid goaltending going forward they could be in the mix. I'm still cautiously optimistic about the playoffs but imagine making the big show with Demidov joining the Habs after his season it could be very interesting as to how things could play out in the post season.

In terms of roster management, I think there is a lot to learn from the former Bruins and Lightning groups who seemed to bring in new guys just the right way so they either did not miss a beat or they actually improved; that is where management and coaching and team culture are everything. The Habs seem to be headed that way, so changes to the roster are going to be increasingly delicate.

I love how we still call the Evans line the 4th even though they are much better than the Dvorak line and okay the same amount of minutes.

They are also doing much better than Dach’s line.

It’s to not forget what he is, don’t let the inefficiencies of others make you believe he is 2nd line material. George Laraque did a hat trick once, so did Poehling, John Scott scored at the ASG … any players in the NHL can go on a hot streak. If he maintains it over half a season then it’s a different conversation.

Regarding the comments on Marty having 2 C's on the ice for important draws... Management and Marty are pretty progressively minded when it comes to the NHL, strategy etc. They know you don't just need 4 C's on a team, you need minimum 6 guys who can take draws competently. It's a lot to ask but if you build the team the right way it's definitely an attainable goal. With that in mind, unless Jake Evans is asking for a totally unreasonable amount of money, I think they should absolutely re-sign him. He's only turning 29 this Summer. Ideally you don't want to sign most guys past 35 imo so that mean a 6 year deal maximum. If he's willing to lower his AAV enough to make his contract still competitive, I'd be willing to gamble on 7 years. I know people will say I'm nuts but when you have a guy who's as good at playing their role as Jake is, you can afford to take a gamble that they'll still be good by 36. Worst case you're stuck with him for 1 more year than you would have been. I don't see Evans hurting us long term so long as his AAV is under 4M. And before anyone mentions his shooting % I'm aware he won't ever replicate the offense he created this season, but I still think he'll be a damn good player for us either way. This team is still gonna need vets. If those vets are quality role players I'm cool with it.
@user-un2uq1zs8mАй бұрын
Dont sign guys who only show up in their contract year, this shit always happens in the nhl and rarely works.
@benoitrobitaille5235Ай бұрын
Love Evans and his game, idc about the length of the contract, but anything over 3 AAV is just repeating the Armia/Dvorak/Anderson/Pearson/Hoffman/Gallagher mistake, you do not overpay for past performances and you certainly do not overpay for bottom 6 players. All the young guys in and around the team, plus those other prospects in Europe will have to get paid once in the league, let’s not waste cap space on bottom liners that we will end up replacing easily. He’s a perfectly capable 4th line center on a contender who can play pk and occasionally play 3rd line minutes if someone is injured.

Too close out the game that is Shutdown. Now we need Demidov. Just love Carrier Evens and Heinamen. These guys make everyone play harder. Sign Evens he’s earned it.

I'm seeing something that doesn't seem to be noticed - intensity on the forecheck - they are giving the other teams difficulty in generating an offensive push - they are breaking up plays and creating thus creating turnovers.

Evans?!? U crazy. Definitely not watching the games. Yeah let's trade dvorak and Evans and start the next season with 1 center! Thanks God you aren't our DG lmao
@powers1500Ай бұрын
@@sawadeejaaa5892 Evans has never had yet a 30 pt season in the NHL. He has been a 4th liner most of his career. If he wants 3 yrs at 3 millions, that's ok,. Evans will be 29 yrs old in june, he will want to retire with that contract, so he will ask 5 or 6 yrs at near 4 millions, otherwise, he should change agent. It is always better to trade players when are having good seasons instead of just getting rid of them because they are not playing well or don't need them anymore...You should be aware of that since you think you know what a good GM should be...😉!!!
@sawadeejaaa5892Ай бұрын
@@powers1500 You talking about his points literally shows me that you are not watching the game. Hes extremely effective not only as the 4th liner but also on the PK. Hes versatily and is very good in many different positions. You obviously dont follow or watch the games so I guess I have to educate you a little bit but we all know Dvorak is gone at the end of the season so then if you get rid of Evans you gonna end up with 1 center (Yeah we have Dach but despite the recent resurging of the habs, I still have my doubt about him being a 2nd center). Honestly we did the same mistake with Danault, with Lekhonen, Romanov, etc.. the list goes on and on. We need Evans. He need to stay. Obviously it will depend on how much he want but I dont think hes the kind of guy that will be difficult to deal with.
