This video is a nostalgic look at the community of Hacienda Heights back in 1975. It includes photos of what was then the newly opened Puente Hills Mall that was later used as a backdrop in scenes from the movie "Back To The Future.
Originally a slide show created by the author for a High School class book report on the community in March 1975.
Although nearly 50 years old, the original transparencies shot on Kodachrome 35mm film have not faded and I've left the slides in their original format including the accumulated dust over the years.

This brings back memories! Especially the Puente Hills Mall, St. John Vianney Church & the brick library on La Monde .

My aunt and uncle moved to Hacienda Heights from La Habra in 1978, and still live there today. I grew up in Whittier, so there were many trips going over Colima Road to visit them and my cousins. I don't remember the mall quite that way, but how it looks in "Back To the Future" is exactly how it was in the mid-1980s.

My parents bought our house on Stovall Ave in ‘75. I didn’t realize all the new buildings that came in then. We moved to HH in 66.

Thank you for saving your slide show from high school and remastering it to video. Even though you could have added modern titles, I like that you kept your old title card/slides. I remember the difficulty in creating those back then, especially when just in high school. The newly-built house looks familiar, but I can't place where it is. The Hacienda Heights post office was freshly minted, having been designed by my mother and built by my father. My father missed including those metal letters in his cost breakdown and had to pay for them out of his pocket.

Thanks Martin, I can't remember where those houses were either. Since I had them, I left the original title slides in even though looking at them today they are a bit corny. I was a freshman at the time and did what I could with what I had. That is cool about your mom and dad building the post office!

When I was 14 in 1972 for $27k my dad and step mom bought a new house on Stitzel Street which eventually the name changed to Country Canyon Rd and I never knew why-I do remember my step Mom was asked and signed some kind of loan document that she was not planning on having any children until after 5 years to qualify for the loan-
