@@developandplay Take your time man, based on your channel and other comments I've seen you have a lot more important things going on :). I'm trying this project too once I get my own printer but instead I'm gonna use a 2010 chassis so I can try to squeeze a blu ray drive if possible :P. Still like other work to reference from haha. @@NotMexican In a reddit thread the 3d printed parts were actually purchased from a private hobbyist group as he has said. However he may be holding off as there is huge potential market for these and people would most likely buy it than build it off of him. Yes I did succeed and it's sort of ready. The 3d print is missing the backplate but that's the only thing... In therms of macos that worked as well but with one update the bootloader sort of stopped working and right now I don't have the time to fix things.

I'm still thinking of creating an completion video but right now with the M1 macs it might be less exciting

@@developandplay Well.. you got a point there, the M1 base model with 256GB SSD and 8GB ram cost about 850 Euros or something like that, a build like this with an i7 processor and things like that will cost alot more than 850 Euros and still not be able to compete with the M1... even though i like projects like this just because the fact that its a project .... i built a Hackintosh back in 2017 and it was built from an old PowerPC G4 case.. great project, i have videos up here on youtube.. :D

Yep I just never managed to polish it and upload it. The 3d parts just fit but don't look nicely.

I've got 2014 Mac mini with crappy dual core i5. I've been thinking about gutting it out and using internals as a macOS Server (I added NVMe SSD and it's good enough) and utilise its housing for tiny PC case. (I bought M2 mini for its successor as a daily driver) Thanks. this gives me a good ideas.

I would use Arctic Alpine 12 LP (discontinued) at hand and give mesh like bottom cover with much more space than the original. I tried to bend and make my own LP heatsink but it is quite tricky.

Yes the heat sink was the most tricky part of the build. I used the tiniest one I could find but even then I still had to trimm some of the fins. In the end it fit but you have to take off the heatsink before you can slide out the Mainboard completely.

Not yet. If you want to buy the exact same parts I might wait a little. I'm confident however that it will work out. The 3d printer arrived this week. So next weekend I will continue the project.

The issue is that it works well enough for me but is not polished enough to put it online. For example the 3d printed standoffs inside the case work nicely but I didn't get to designing the IO panel. Additionally the grounding/isolation might not be perfect in my current build. Unfortunately I have been quite busy as of the last video on this project. I would love to build the mac mini out properly. I still haven't sold the project though (and was occasionally using it) so I'll polish it some day and upload it.😌 It's just a question of when...😔

Unfortunately not. The older mac minis have a smaller foot print. You could however use a raspberry pi or a intel nuc. You just need to take measurements to check whether it will actually work out.

You could try to find a laptop cooler that match your motherboard layout.

I did a first run of prints just recently. They do work but are far from being polished (e.g. back panel is non existent). Once I get back to this project after Christmas I will create a github project and upload an update video.
