This makes a lot of sense, thanks Tyler. One thing, you have the max score as 800 - I'm thinking its 700 from what I've read. What do you think the answer is? I'm guessing there are arguments on both sides...

Totally. The handbook itself doesn't declare what a perfect score is. In years past, I have had high performing students of mine report scores in the low 700's. Since it's not official, each year this peak score may shift up or down. Ultimately a "perfect" score doesn't really matter too much since a kid scoring a 704 and another kid scoring a 600 both get into stuy. I'd be interested to see what articles you're referring to. always happy to learn!

Sure, if only to prove that I'm spending waaaay too much time on this lol. So the first link addresses the question, and then, after seeing your video, I found a link to someone who takes a good shot at what the scaled slope might look like (on the old test w/ 50 not 57 q's - see link 2.) Finally, if you compare it with the way the folks at Kwellr approach the scaled slope, you'll see that the math is EXACTLY the same except the KW. folks simply jump from 350 to 400 (instead of 360) when you go from 49 correct to 50 correct. TMI right?? @Sodaleaf yeah, I got in but unfortunately I can not remember most of the stuff I ended up doing, one thing though, you should do whichever part you think you're better at/can finish quicker first, for example that was ela for me, so I could spend more time on math later and not worry about running out of time for what i know i can do better at because i did my harder subject first. Also don't leave any questions blank if you don't know them, a guess has a 25% chance of being right after all. So yeah good luck !

long post... Think of it as percent correct. Between (I'm making up these numbers) 0-15%, the questions are worth a lot. from 15-75% (about a C), the questions are worth only a couple of points each. From 75-100% correct, the questions are each worth a lot of points again. It does not matter what order you do the questions in. They don't even look at streaks. They only look at percent correct you have so far to decide if the question you are doing is worth a lot of points or not. Your goal is to get as many points as you can. I should make another video about this.

reposted from an earlier comment: think of every question like one gallon of water you can add to a huge tank. The tank is very very skinny at the bottom, really wide in the middle and super skinny at the top. Every question you get right is like adding a gallon of water to that tank. At first, the height of the water in the tank will rise rapidly since it's so skinny. As you get to the middle of filling the tank, each gallon will only raise the water level a little bit since the tank in this part is so wide. Once you get towards the end of filling up the tank, and the tank gets skinny again, the water begins to rise really quickly with each gallon. You can go in reverse order or answer questions randomly. Every question you get right goes into the tank the same, the tank just has a weird shape. Does this make sense?
