Oh man, I played a lot of World of Dungeons. Just using that core system always worked much better than using a full suite of "moves". So light and elegant, although the magic was too freeform for me.

I agree. I bought Dungeon World but this is what I opted to play.

It's worth knowing that World of Dungeons was created as a stretch goal on the Kickstarter for Dungeon World, quoting from the Kickstarter:

"Loayal and EFECTIVE (not effectionate) animal companion." I love this game and it has become a staple of our group. WoDu, like so many PbtA games has been adapted and expanded upon by others. And indeed, I have expanded my own version of this to suit my game world. Glad to see it getting noticed.

This is my one of my all time favorites. It’s not only my go to one shot engine, but I’ve used it for year long campaigns as well. I read game systems for fun sometimes, and I run other systems every once in a while, but I always come back to this either vanilla or Ben and Jerry’s modified.

I don’t normally agree that progression requires more powerful abilities. Games that develop characters horizontally vs. vertically are great for long-term play. More tools, not more powerful tools. You hit on the real plus of this game in the end. Lite rules make it easier to tinker or use lots of cool things from other games or blogs as needed.
@renansoares272Ай бұрын
Hi! Do you have good examples of rpgs that do horizontal progress? I know some, but they are allways so "freeform"... i feel unsuported as a New GM.

Name table also has place names if you'd like to flesh out the world. We're using this as a municipal dungeon crawling game. A fun starting point...

You didn't cover "Make your own class". Want that Cleric to use more magic? Take Summon and Cure. Bam. A "celestial" spirit summoning healer.

Agreed, a lot of hidden workability in the game.

If you search "world of dungeons hacks" you will find out there are hacks of this one for Shadowrun, Western, Star Wars, Gamma world. I am sure I am just scratching the surface. I do like the simplicity of the system. I love the retro look. If I were to teach someone how to play D&D this might be a good primer before you let them loose with d20s.

@@go_outside I agree. The OAR series is the only 5e adventures I own, but wow are they great. They material Goodman adds absolutely fits like it was meant to go there.

The magic system is really awesome. I've played with a wizard who chose fire and earth, and I've played with shadow and whispers. I'm not 100% sold on the quick silver rule but the name magic is simple and creative. I love it.
