+GreatScott! You should check the beam pattern of the laser diode. I had 8 laser pickups to play around with and killed every single one with ESD. Even while grounded with an esd wriststrap and earthed soldering iron. Those 405nm diodes are very fragile and even more sensitive to esd than other wavelengths. You should look at the beam pattern if its a constant bar of light. If not you most likely killed the diode. Dead laser diodes usually emit a random splitted pattern or even no light from front surface, just some reflection of the substrates sides. + they often emit a yellowish color on the sides when they are dead.
@AtmelKiller8 жыл бұрын
And your diode looks pretty dead in the Video. Do not exceed approx 50mA or it will die. Those diodes are only for reading and not burning discs. They usually have about 5mW of output power.

Great video; try to use the UV laser to cure some epoxy resin, or other UV curable resin, the chemical mechanism of IR and UV reactions in materials are way different, but remember the simple quantum relationship: Energy of a photon=Planck constant*wavelenght/velocity of light in vacuum.

I'm afraid you are mistaken about killing potentiometers. Usually, the issue is not dissipating too much power. The problem is driving too much current through the wiper. This can produce a very small, localized burn on the resistive element, and at that particular position the pot will appear to be dead.. The maximum safe current depends on the specific pot - but it's not usually very much.

It looks like the violet laser diode is damaged because the output is very dim.
