I’m really glad you didnt lose anything, i got hacked a couple years ago and lost ~100m worth and quit the game after seeing an empty bank. No pin no 2fa no anything. it had never happened to me so i didnt think or care about it. Seriously guys, secure your shit or else you might really regret it.

Another tip for not getting hacked, is never use real information for your security questions. Say if you choose a question that says 'What is your birth place?', NEVER put down your actual birth place. Make it up, put in random words/characters but write it down so you dont forget. You're an easy target, if you use real life information as security answers. 2. Never use your real emails. If you want to remain safe on the game, when creating a new account, create a new email and secure it. Keep your IRL emails and info seperate from your game.

I was hacked just a couple days before you were (first time in my life, luckily I did deposit everything the night before). But my question is: why do any of these steps matter? For me, the hacker never logged into my email addresses. He simply recovered my account somehow. He must have known some info about my account or something. When you recover an account, you don't need anything, and as long as it's approved you get to choose the new password and new e-mail attached to the account. Therefore once he had his own e-mail attached, he disabled the authenticator on the runescape account itself. It's so annoying. There's no customer support to know about WHAT he actually put in the recovery. So he could possibly just do it over and over again. It makes no sense. There should be delay on authenticator removal, like you said, or a checkbox somewhere in your account for NO RECOVERY. I've logged into my ironman every single day for over 2 years. Why would I ever need to recover it?

I went through a similar experience in February. Somehow someone got access to my email, recovered the "username" and then recovered the account through my account. What's stupid is that I had never used that email on any other websites besides runescape. I suspected I had somehow been ratted. Them punk asses were lucky that I had to disable 2fa before playing RS, as my phone had broke 2 months prior. They stole around 10m by staking it all at the duel arena, I had full obsidian armor which was the first 10m I'd had on that account. After that load of bullshit I decided to quit RS, as I do believe Jagex has a bit to blame. They didn't check where someone was recovering my account from. They should at least require confirmation through email if the recovery looks suspicious.

Got to love hackers who go as far as to drop non-tradable items as a final fuck you. I got hacked a couple years back on my original account. The hackers used macros on it which led to Jagex banning the account. I was pissed that I was hacked when I logged in to see what was gone. Then the following day, the account got the ban hammer. These assholes really go out of their way to ruin any motivation for you to continue with this game.

funny to see people in comment section dont even know how to secure their account, ive had 1 of my trash accounts hacked that way like 10 years ago, thats 1 out of 30ish doe,before 2 factor+authenticator for rs.
