I don't think CDPR would care that much, because these games already finished their biggest sale cycles. Also no impact on piracy when they've always been DRM-free and available. And CDPR said next games will use unreal engine anyways. Even though buggy, these games are pretty fun to play! If they become abandonware in the future, this leak could save them and give them a new life. I think CDPR may consider opening the source code some day, because they're friendly with modding, they're DRM-free and they care about old game preservation in general.

@@aouyiu Both Witcher3 and CP77 have launchers that afaik pull a news update feed off of the web as well as display in game content announcements if you bought a DLC, or when there is a new update with features. It's possible that these features might get that data off of a web server rather than being static readonly data, and if that's possible then it might have a RCE vulnerability that could be used to convince your PC to join a bot network, etc.

Cyberpunk mods that were made using stolen code appeared on Nexus around the end of May/beginning of June 2021. They were quickly deleted by the admins who confirmed that they were indeed using stolen material. Allegedly (as far as I remember even Muta reported on it) parts of it leaked on 4chan at the end of April 2021.

The kinda the thing about source code leaks, anyone who could use the source code can't touch it If you ever do anything for any company that produces a product remotely similar to the code leak and your IP appears on the bittorrent log or your home machine contains any trace of the leak during a lawsuit discovery search, best case scenario you are just industry blacklisted, even if you never used any of it. If you ever want to get a job in coding, 3D modeling, whatever, avoid these leakes like the plague.

The thing about reusing the code is that if it's compiled then how will anybody even know? Compiled code cannot be inspected. Perhaps small fragments can be de-compiled... Not sure. In that case it's still probably safe to use huge chunks of it at a time. I'm not a software engineer, though.

Like any one person would make anything useful with the Cyberpunk source code... We probably talking of millions of lines of code, of game that didn't perform or run nearly close to what it should when it came out. To make anything worthwhile from this would take a large team and probably years. It's just not useful for anything but checking it out of curiosity.

9:30 Cyberpunk and Witcher are not broken, they only were on launch and later got fixed. Nowadays, it's not an issue - both games reviews are excellent. Also, to clarify, the Cyberpunk source code already got leaked in 2021, this is nothing new.

I'm pretty sure compiling an unauthorised copy of source code for the educational or research purposes is protected under fair use. Editing it is a grey area, though. As for distributing modified versions, it's 100% illegal.
