That engine is the base line variant used in some of the A class Mercedes Benz cars. I drive a Mercedes Benz A180 that has that engine in it, with several differences. Mine is a 1.6 litre engine, and it has the “camtronic “ valve train for greater efficiency. The water pump is vacuum controlled variable impeller system that allows greater coolant flow at higher temperatures, and virtually no flow on warm up after starting. Here in Australia, the water pumps sell for about $400 AU$. The M270 engines are usually very reliable and will last a long time with proper maintenance.
@greebjКүн бұрын
So they engineered a more expensive more complex water pump to do the same thing the thermostat already does? Why?
@christophermarshall5765Күн бұрын
@ it works like a thermostat does, but without the mechanical element. Mechanical thermostats often fail before their service life ends. The water pump on the M270 Mercedes Benz engine isn’t as complex as you think. In fact, it has several advantages over the other types. The vacuum system works from engine vacuum, controlled by temperature sensor and computer. When the engine is at operating temperature, the coolant flow is like that of a normal car. When the engine starts to get hotter than normal, the coolant flow is slower, and the fan speed increases. Once temperature reduces to normal, cooling system operates as normal. Like other cars, with proper maintenance, there should be very few problems.

I can’t believe a friend would sell you an engine with a bad water pump. “I do cars and sell used water pumps” has a reputation to uphold!

Not sure what you're using for lights, but i will say the Milwaukee headlamp that has the true color lighting works amazing for seeing the differences in color in non ideal environments

Definitely not the 2.0L on my old Mercedes. Mine didn't have a dipstick. So annoying to change the oil on your own without a dipstick.
