Tony, Mike, and Ryan reunite to talk about the final Original Series Star Trek film. In this movie review/podcast of Star Trek VI The Undiscovered Country they will talk about all the things that make it bold! Capt. James Kirk (William Shatner) and the crew of the USS Enterprise are carrying Klingon Chancellor Gorkon (David Warner) to Earth to negotiate a peace treaty with the United Federation of Planets. The ship appears to fire on a Klingon vessel, and Gorkon is killed in the subsequent confusion. Kirk and the ship's doctor, Leonard McCoy (DeForest Kelley), are arrested for murder, leaving Spock (Leonard Nimoy) to figure out who is behind the attack and save the negotiations.

To me, I wish they hadn't stopped with the original cast here. They had finally figured out how to blend comedy and drama fantastically. We had the seriousness and violence of 2 and 3 then straight up comedy on 4. 5 sort of almost got it. Then 6 nailed it. They could made so many more great ones I think. Oh well.

Not only that, but the character he plays earlier in the movie, in another scene deleted from the theatrical cut, he has this whole flipboard set up detailing the plan to rescue Kirk and McCoy from prison during the meeting with the president of the Federation - which leads to a small joke later that's not really a joke in the theatrical, because when the Chancellor's daughter says "there will be no attempt to rescue Kirk and McCoy from prison", you can still see the flipboard in the background, which means _she_ can also see it, and she's basically going "oh and we're not having any of _that_ either!"

Star Trek 6 deals with some important themes, but for me it's the least fun of the TOS movies. The Final Frontier is objectively worse, but it's more fun to watch and it does have some genuinely good moments. I like the "I need my pain" scene, and "What does God need with a starship?" is one of my favorite quotes in any sci-fi movie.

I think I may have mentioned this on the Titanic video, but I watched the Quest of the Delta Knights MST3K episode the other day and David Warner was in it. I was like "Damn he hasn't aged much", but that movie came out in 1993 :O This movie came out two years before that and looks about 20 years newer

The Romulan Star Empire had reached a truce with the Federation during the Dominion War, and the truce was threatened by Shinzon, and the Reman coup attempt. Then the destruction of Romulus pretty much set that no, the Romulans never joined the Federation. Same for Klingons, and Cardassians. At best tenuous allies.

The guy in the Klingon mask is actually the guy the plays Odo in deep space nine. There was a deleted scene with him as an admiral I believe in the president's office. Also, Valeris was supposed to be Savvik but they couldn't get Kirsty alley back. The idea made sense since David and Savvik were in a relationship. This was also omitted from 3's script. So her motives make more sense than Valeris'. What would have made it more complicated was that Savvik was pregnant with Spock's baby after she relieved his pon farr in 3 which was why she stayed on Vulcan. This was also ommited. Another scrapped idea from 6's script was that Carol Marcus and Kirk were romantically involved again. Great review guys!hope you three do more Trek reviews!!

The Klingon public defender is called Worf, and he is canonically Mogh's grandfather. Mogh named his own son after his venerated ancestor before being murdered and framed for setting up the Khitomer Massacre.

Michael Dorn plays Colonel Worf, from what I have found the character is Worf's (TNG) grandfather. Im am a bit surprised that Mike and Ryan (being the Trekies they are) missed the fact the assassin was played by Rene Auberjonois aka Odo, especially after all the DS9 talk. (he played Colonel West)

FYI, in answer to Tony's (IIRC) question, the Federation President is an Efrosian. The same race as the Saratoga's navigator in The Voyage Home.
