We have had some great July 4th celebrations all over the country since hitting the road, but this one will definitely be an Independence Day we will never forget!
Seaview Campground and Cabins in Eastport, Maine, was the perfect spot to be able to check out the Downtown which boasts the biggest (and they say) the best 4th of July Festival in the state of Maine. And we can totally see why!
When we arrived at the campground, we were given a 4 page list of events for the festival that goes on for 4 days. There were shows, parades, contests and we counted 12 high school reunions! There was also a Naval ship arriving in town, and we were thrilled to see it when we pulled in that morning for the parade.
As many of you know, Corey was in the Navy when we got married, so seeing all of those sailors marching in the parade was very special. We walked down the pier to check out the ship and found out that we could go on a guided tour. The girls had never seen a ship like Corey’s, and though it wasn’t exactly the same as his, taking a tour was such a special way for us to celebrate our wonderful country together.
Seeing the town’s incredible fireworks show over the ship that night was icing on the cake! The weather was great all day and continued to clear the rest of the week. We got in some beautiful sunrises and sunsets out on the massive dock which was our most favorite part of the campground, and Lily caught some pretty cool fish! We also got to start off our 22nd wedding anniversary enjoying the view of the bay!
We ended up cutting our coastal tour short in order to head home and see Corey’s brother who just got orders to go overseas for possibly 2 years.
Stay tuned for next week as we head back to our hometown and send off Jess’ parents on their first big RV trip! Be sure to like and subscribe and click on the bell icon for notifications when we release new videos!
Don’t wait to live your life, find your 🔆SOMEDAY🔆 now!

The scenery when Lilly caught her fish, with her silhouette against the sky with reflection, and what color. Picture perfect! Always a joy to watch. I remember touring a navy carrier ship with my dad. It took him back in time the same way. Great memories.

Thank you Cory for your service. I remember when I went on the Midway in San Diego with my dad years ago. He started telling me a story of when he was on the aircraft carrier USS Independence. Before I knew it, a bunch of tourists circled around my dad listening to his stories. He passed away last November 11th (Veterans day) and seeing your girls listening to you reminded me of that moment. Thank you for that memory. ❤

What a precious memory for you. Thank you so much for sharing, and our little connection to your story is that November 11 is my (Jess) birthday! Someone in the comments below mentioned that the USS Independence was there ship as well. Love the connections that we all make through RVing, the military and this platform. Thanks for watching and for sharing your story with us! 🙏

Happy Aniversery! Thanks for taking us along on the ship. My dad was in the Army then he joined the Navy after. I stayed at that very same campground a few years ago. They didn't have the dock then. Beautiful evening views. So glad you had a wonderful time! All the best to your brother. To Corey and his brother, Thank You So Much for your Service! You two were smart to leave the parade early and beat the rush onto the Oscar Austin for a tour. OBTW: I was working at Bath Iron Works in 1988 when Corey's ship the USS Monterey was launched, The Monterey is now in "Mothballs" at the Philadelphia PA, Naval Inactive Ship Maintenance Facility. I also helped in the construction of the Oscar Austin. I worked at BIW for 31 years, now retired in Florida, also my wife and I are former residents of Maine and actually lived about 5 minutes from Pepper Hill Farm in South Thomaston🤗 😎

This is so awesome! Thank you so much for sharing! Corey had a huge detailing contract at BIW years before we hit the road and we met so many people who helped build the Monterey. Many remembered because it is one of the only fatalities ever at BIW apparently. Corey remembered the plaque on the ship. His parents grew up in Bath and his grandmother lived on Maine street for decades. We can't wait to share more of our time in South Thomaston next week!

I love touring ships. I've been on the USS Alabama more times than I can remember, as well as the submarine, USS Drum. Kaylyn and I have done an overnight on the USS Lexington in Corpus Christi. We've been on the Elissa in Galveston and we are planning on touring the USS Wisconsin in Virginia soon. We also toured the JFK before it was retired. It was in port in Jacksonville when my mom first moved there in 1995. That was an epic catch, Lily.

My Brother served in the Navy on the USS America; one tour in Viet Nam and 2 tours Mediterranean Duty. I was able to visit him in Norfolk which was the aircraft carrier's home port and they actually invited me to eat on board, and had an amazing tour of the ship. When they returned from Med Duty they stopped off in Jacksonville to unload Marines and I was able to visit with him there again. It really is amazing to be able to tour these massive ships first hand, and what an incredible way to spend the 4th. It's a lot different from watching fireworks in your backyard. Thank you to Cory and ALL those who served this Great United States of America. I was not in the service, but my brother and man friends are/were Vietnam Veterans. Even so, I feel a great sense of pride and admiration toward our men and women in the Armed Forces.

As always an awesome video. With the wide reach of your videos, maybe a weather safety add on for this video? When the families hair stood up, that was an indicator of an imminent lightning strike. Glad you all are ok and it didn’t strike close!! God bless and safe travels!!

We were in Eastport in the fall of 21 & it was so still and quiet; very different in the summer! We’ve also been confused over the Easternmost…btw Eastport and Lubec, must be as simple as one is a town and the other is a city - as you said! Have y’all ever been to Roosevelt Campobello International Park? Tried to get there last time but ran out of day light!
@FindingOurSomeday
@FindingOurSomeday Жыл бұрын
Isn't it crazy how different it is in the off season? We had to do some research to understand the whole "easternmost" titles. One is a town, one is a city and the lighthouse is actually the Easternmost tip of the contiguous US! We didn't make it over to Campobello. Next time!

Especially since you all are avid hikers and routinely hike to the top of mountains, if the hair starts standing on end, it is a warning sign of a potential strike. Stay safe. Love your videos.

Pfc Oscar Austin! He received the Medal of Honor and He was in 2nd Bn 7th Marines in Vietnam, I was also in 2nd Bn 7th Marines from 1999-2003. There are barracks on camp Schwab Okinawa named in his honor which I stayed in for 6 months during a deployment. There was a picture and plaque of him at the entrance of the barracks. Awesome to see a ship named after him.

I was wondering if you were going to head inland. Once you said Katahdin I thought how fun would it be for people to get to see the Iron Works there or the B52 crash site on Elephant Mountain maybe some other time you go back home. My couson has a place in brownville next to the train yard so we snowmobile up there. Thank you for sharing your adventures with us 10ish years that will be my husband and I full timeing

When I was 11, my brother was in the Navy, stationed in Charleston, S.C. My mom and I went to visit he and his wife, and because it was Thanksgiving, the whole family was invited to tour his ship and have Thanksgiving dinner aboard her - the famous U.S.S. Iowa. It was during the Korean War, in 1953. I’ve never forgotten it.

Chief meteorologist Darby Bybee from 4029news wrote about the hair sticking up... "When that hair starts to stick up, it's a good sign that lightning is about to strike in your vicinity. When you're in that situation, you should get inside immediately. You may not think you're in trouble if the storm looks to still be off in the distance. But that electric charge is a sure sign that you should get inside as quickly as possible."
