I mean... Hecate has always been a Greek Goddess lol As a Christian myself, I've always judged pop culture references to "magic and witchcraft" by how they present it. If it's Satanic in nature, such as Cult of the Lamb, even if it isn’t meant to be taken seriously, I draw the line (for me personally). If it's just "ooohhhh magic go brrr" like BG3 for example, it doesn't phase me, even Spiritually. Thats kinda how i veiw Hades 2 as of right now. I don't THINK I'm a "bad Christian" for being stoked about this game 😅 and i dont want others to feel bad if they are excited about it too... I'd say it's up to the individual, tbh.

Huh… yeah I only know surface level stuff when it come to the Greek mythos 😅. That pretty much where I’m at too. I just personally struggle a bit more when it’s straight hex signs. Arcana cards are a hit or miss since I don’t care how they are used mostly in stuff like the persona series. I’m definitely still mostly pumped for this game too. We might need to do some speed run challenges if I do decide to play it 🌝

For me a draw the line at cult of lamb too. And anything that involves tarot cards effecting my character or class or build I’m out. I kept playing cyberpunk because tarot cards were optional. But as long as I’m not disrespecting Christ to the best of my ability. I’m good. I loved the first hades. I get the Hex’s and symbolism I don’t like that either. And playing as a witch class or witch character is tough. Christ knows your heart and in the end he’ll judge you based on that. If you don’t believe you are disrespecting God. Christ doesn’t punish the ignorant. (Or those who truly believe they aren’t causing harm) But also what do I know.

@@TacoZ24 yeah the Bible does talk about the grace that is given to those who don’t know the sin they are committing, but they are still sinful. While I sinned and still do, since I’ve committed my life to Christ and accepted His salvation, I’m saved. When God judges, if you haven’t accepted Jesus’ salvation, then you’ll be thrown in the furnace like chaff. I don’t really know anything either. That’s what I and many other of my colleagues at Boise Bible College learned is the more we learn about God and his word, the less we truly know. But, I truly believe that if you’re saved then you’re saved and that’s what the judgement about. When I’m judged, the blood of Christ has washed away my guilt. I don’t believe that playing this game will take away my salvation. Sorry if this was really ranty. I appreciate your conversation and was curious what you meant.

I grew up Christian, in a VERY conservative Asian country. Perhaps it's a cultural difference, but I've always been baffled by western Christians' aversion to the idea of magical practices, or even depictions of magic in fiction. Is it a cultural thing? It's so different from home, where mystical stuff and alternative spiritualism is so common we kinda just... accept it as part of life. You can literally go to a shaman for their services and everything. So it's a very "yeah that stuff's dangerous, let's not get involved" kind of attitude among most people, and I've never heard anyone raise issues with magic of any stripe in fiction. I didn't experience the backlash when say, the harry potter books were first published, but I heard stories of parents banning the books for their kids because it depicts magic. And, I don't know, it seems a bit excessive, that. It's not even based on a real magic system or belief, really. Rather poor representation of witchcraft if anything. With Hades, it IS based on an existing pagan religion so you have more ground to stand on than something like Harry Potter... But like, these kinds of stories keep coming up and I don't understand the aversion? It's fictional? Can anybody explain?

Yeah, while at the college I studied at, a professor of mine who worked at a lot over in the east talked a lot about what you said. Technically there is still services here in the west where you can access stuff like that, but it’s not normalized or common here. It’s very common to think that spiritual stuff is not real. What you explain with Harry Potter is how I feel about most fiction that has magic. It’s a fantasticle use of magic that is astranged to actual magic. Thank you for your for your words and perspective!

Non Christians would consider any of the miracles and events of the bible to be witchcraft... Do you have a problem with magic in general or only when it is categorized as witchcraft? What about when a character simply has "abilities". Things like Dragon Quest have magic a plenty, and pokemon is considered to be similar by maaaany a Christian. It seems like you possibly have an aversion to the presentation more than anything. From a strict point of view almost all of the games you love are sinful, as I'm sure you've heard from many fellow Christians(likely much older ones)

Additionally, you own what I presume to be a harry Potter wand, which is explicitly for witchcraft and sorcery. It just seems to me that you are being ideologically inconsistent or have just realized you have been in the past. Simply wanting things to hide the fact that they are non Christian enough for your guilt to not come into effect(despite playing a game entirely based around another religion.) Might be wrong but it just seems odd to me.

@@proforeveryone I just responded to someone else who was talking about the fact that most depictions of magic in fiction is so far from the original that they really are different. That’s how I’m able to dissociate magic systems in most video games like dragon quest. As always, this is about what are your boundary lines and spiritual junk you are willing to put in your body. We should always eat healthy and take care of our body’s, but eating a cultural food can give us understanding and a connection to people of that culture. Now there boundaries, because someone can take that logic and say, “you try drugs once for the experience.” I would very much disagree with that. So basically with this, you have to ask if the witchcraft/magic in games the same thing. If so, then you want to avoid, right? I truly believe it’s a grey area that is hard to fully understand and its journey. There are some games I’m not okay with and some that I am. I use to be an addict and so some games with drugs trigger me. As with someone I was responding to in the comments, they are more fine with games with magic, since it’s not like the common reality of what witchcraft really is around them. I could be wrong with a lot of this. I’m trusting God. Thanks for the comment.

@@CHRISTIAN_GAMER What do you even mean? It's a piece of art brother. It's about how it makes you feel, what it makes you think, whether you're connecting with it or not. This game has peak art, amazing style, gameplay they only want to perfect, and nothing but a sense of identity. Creating that, means making a world that's fantastical (literally), meaning magic (whoah) and mystery (wow). It's an entirely fictitious world and you're supposed to analyze the characters and magical systems within it in context. If you watch a movie with a murder, it's not inherently glorification of it, nor is it an acceptance of it. Similarly, a game that includes magic isn't usually doing those things either. It's a fun and fantastical system that intrigues because of it's mystery, and has infinite applications to be awesome both in appearance and effect. Why the hell wouldn't you want witchcraft in your game? It's cool as shit to see someone conjure up something from nothingness. Just as awesome (as in literally causing awe) as Jesus turning water to wine, or any of the plagues, or any other fantastical biblical feat. The difference is this is a video game, where none of it has to teach you a true lesson because the truth is it's a piece of entertainment, not a book on how to live your life. And the people making it 100% have other priorities than trying to sneak in signs of the devil. They're people with real lives and they just want to create something cool, or pay for their living lol

@@ThatMinja yeah I don’t think the creators are trying to sneak in witchcraft to corrupt others. I enjoy games like dragon quest for its fantasticle use of magic. My problem is the painting of the magic being close to its real origins of witchcraft. Witchcraft isn’t fantastic. It’s like a movie or show always showing people smoking and presenting it as a cool thing, because it does look cool, but the reality isn’t. I love the art piece Berserk, but I don’t recommend it to everyone. Just because it’s art doesn’t mean we should consume it. And if we don’t pay attention to what we are consuming then we don’t know where we’ll be. Just like trying to exercise to meet a goal, if you don’t chart the progress, it’s hard to tell if you’re reaching the goal. I’m not saying that playing this means you’ll do witchcraft, but just like violent games can desensitize to those violence, so can witchcraft when it’s presented.

I’m glad you enjoyed the video. I wish they showed more of the consequences for the witchcraft. The best we get is seeing the main protag Melonie’s hand and eye green, but nothing more. If they showed some kind of a pain / problem from committing this constant sorcery, that would be interesting. I think the story focus is else where, which I’m still very interested in. The design choice feels way more like a cosmetic / reason to have magic mechanics in the game. At the same time, I don’t think I’d play the game if they really leaned in to the idea of witchcraft and its usage 😅. I’m still fairly pumped for the game and will probably jump into early access. I feel when there is some magic in a game its grey, but this has a ton of symbols with blatant hexagrams and dark demonic sources. In the lord of the rings there's a wizard but its not a tale of witchcraft either and it doesn't encourage darkness, that series is about adventure and an epic tale, so I can rationalize it. From what I can tell this is something we as Christians should take a pass on, or if we make videos use heavy discernment. First, I thank God for opening my mind to the subtle messages in entertainment from all genres (games, movies, shows, etc...). I am highly aware of symbology, phrases, signs, and various myths and ideologies that are woven into entertainment. I enjoy a good story, plot and character development. However, I do have my limits. For instance, while I loved the Last of Us, I have yet to play (nor will I play) Last of Us 2 because of woke content that forces the player to watch and engage. Hades 2 is very demonic, from the sigils used, potion crafting, myriad of pentagrams woven throughout the game, rhyming of spells, the portrayal of Chaos as an obvious androgenous character to the dialog. Chaos even said "but above all, do as you will." This is straight from Aleister Crowley, a known satanist, "Do as thou will shall be the whole law." I'm not only finding it hard to enjoy the game, gameplay wise, but just the overt level of witchcraft is difficult to ignore; it is literally everywhere. Moreover, this game is an obvious push of the 'divine feminine'. There is not a balance of male and female characters from what I've seen. It's sad, but I think I will stop playing this.

False. That phrase(while heavily used by Crowley and oftentimes cited as a catch all term for many occult groups who want to jusitfy their hedonism, as Crowly himself did and probably was intended by the devs as well as sort of a nod/acknowldgment of the teachings of occult groups), originally came from St. Augustine, who said it in a context where IF an individual is acting with LOVE in his heart( the love from and for Christ), then do what thou wilt. Thelema has love as a really big focus too but it's not paired with the "do what thou wilt" quote all that often.

How can witchcraft be a problem, and not the ENTIRE PREMISE OF THE GAME REVOLVING AROUND THE GREEK GOD PANTHEON??? "You shall have no other gods before me." Not only does this game feature other gods besides the one god you worship, but this game revolves around polytheism. Seems strange to me that witchcraft is a problem but accepting blessings from other (multiple) gods is not. Both shouldn't be a problem because it's a fictional game, not a suggestion for how to live your life.. but how can one thing bother you and not the other?

Some of it is that I didn’t want to iterate what I already said in my Hades 1 video. To me there is a difference in clarity between the Greek gods and witchcraft. Greek gods are not believed today, but witchcraft is. Witchcraft is communication with demons and some have argued that the Greek gods that people used to worship were also demons. I don’t like the Greek gods but there is more separation that it’s fake and I like playing games that still share culture. I agree that it’s a fair accusation for a Christian to play a game where you get boons from gods. I don’t suggest this game to everyone and I could be wrong.

I like how cautious you are above this, nowadays, a lot of Christians just consume spiritual junk without realising it. So yes, totally agree that we need to be aware of witchcraft and this sort of thing. For me, I like the teaching of Paul in 1 Cor 10:23-33. I don't think playing a game that has witchcraft or magic in it will affect my relationship with God as I believe God is bigger than all these, however, if it affects ones conscience or others around you, then don't do it. In the end, all Christians need to discern what they are consuming themselves and strive to glorify God in everything that we do and not to cause anyone to stumble. I view other Mythology (eg. Greek, Norse, Chinese...) in video games more like a cultural background or usually the humanised aspect of the "gods" as a cautionary tale and/or reflection on humans' emotions and actions. It never occurred to me that those "gods" would be worthy for any modern-day people to worship. Same for Tarot and zodiac signs, I know some people take it seriously but they never have any great impact on me personally. So I don't mind playing Persona series or Saint Seiya games. I would like to see your take on other "spiritual traps" or things that Christians may not be aware that have spiritual impact in video games. 😁
