Lyrics:
Farewell
To all the earthly remains
No burdens
No further debts to be paid
Atlas
Can rest his weary bones
The weight of the world
All falls away
In time
Goodbye
To all the plans that we made
No contracts
I’m free to do as I may
No hunger
No sleep except to dream
Mild and warm
Safe from all harm
Calm
Good riddance
To all the thieves
To all the fools that stifled me
They’ve come and gone
And passed me by
Good riddance
To all
Farewell
To all the earthly remains
No burdens
No further debts to be paid
Atlas
Can rest his weary bones
The weight of the world
All falls away
In time
Composed by Darren Korb.
Vocals by Darren Korb and Ashley Barrett.

Eurydice's solo sounds peaceful and warm. Orpheus's solo sounds so sorrowful and distant. It's amazing how different these two renditions of the song sound, yet together is a beautiful harmony. Truly a masterpiece.

I love how depending on which version, the song has a complete different meaning Eurydice singing alone is about how she's free to do as she pleases in Asphodel Orpheus singing alone is about how he longs for his muse, but has accepted that they'll never see one another again But together, it's about how they're happy being reunited, and that they have no more worries that they had in their mortal lives

Love the fact that the performances by Orpheus and Eurydice help emphasize their individual stories. [MINOR SPOILERS FOR SAID CHARACTERS] When you come across Eurydice, she’s content living in the Underworld for all eternity. She finds a spot to call home, fixes it up, and uses her endless supply of time to cook. She’s moved on from her previous life with Orpheus and her performance of Good Riddance reflexes this. Meanwhile Orpheus’ take on the song is somber in comparison, much more in line with the lyrics. He misses his muse but knows that they’ll never be together again. But the knowledge that Eurydice is safe and doing well gives him the strength to sing in the House again. After learning about her latest work, Orpheus performs it with an almost direct contrast to Eurydice’s, once again showing their different stances on life. Man I love this kind of storytelling
@Falonefal
@Falonefal 4 жыл бұрын
Well, the game IS built on Greek mythology, pretty much exactly, ignoring the actual dialogue. Eurydice has more reason to want to be 'rid' of Orpheus, as he almost saved her from the underworld, however, due to Eurydice being a shade, her footsteps were silent as he was getting her out of the underworld (he struck a deal that he would be allowed to save her if he could lead her out of there without looking back once until the exit), he lost faith thinking he was tricked, looked back and saw his loved one being whisked away into the darkness, into Hades, forever. From Eurydice's point of view, Orpheus failed at the task and 'lost' her, but in reality, Hades knew what he was doing, nobody leaves his realm, he was well aware of Orpheus' weaknesses, and made a challenge for him that he knew Orpheus would fail. Orpheus wouldn't know this, so his song is a more lamenting one. Still, it's amazing that the devs thought about all this and managed to express it in one song in two ways.

I had a book when I was young that relayed greek myths, including the tragedy of Orpheus and Eurydice. It was a story that stuck with me for a long time, the cruelness of fate that would keep them apart. Hearing these two sing in duet for the first time, brought a sense of joy and closure to that story that I hadn't thought about for a long, long time until playing this game, and it hit me like a freight train. This is one of the moments that seats Supergiant as my favourite game developers, without question.

It was just last night, that I managed my first "Escape" in the Hades game, after buying the game a little over a year ago...I've been playing ARPGs and roguelikes since 1984, since the time when Rogue was relatively new...last month, I also buried my grandmother, my abuelita, at the same cemetery in CA where I buried her husband in 1991 and their daughter, Mom, in 1988, 34 years ago this September. I did not expect an ARPG roguelike to come for me like this, to be filled with magnificent songs and characters I care about and children being parted from parents by Death, which I realize, as I age, is part of Life, never separate from it. Now I get why this game has garnered so many awards, now I am amazed by the voice-acting and writing and so many other elements of the production. 10/10, 10 stars, fantastic performances and real grief and remembrance are in here, in Hades. Damn good job, Supergiant Games!

In case their are any songwriters out there, here is a theoretical explanation for why the initial chord progression sounds so melancholy (uppercase numerals represent major chords, lowercase represent minor chords): The movement from the initial chord to the next in the progression (i - VII) immediately sets up a secondary dominant that tries to resolve to the much happier key of E-flat major (III), but it surprises us instead with F minor (the iv chord). This makes the actual arrival of E-flat major on the next chord less stable and gives us the uneasy sense that our relief is only momentary. The last chords in the sequence (III - VII - VI) set up a plagal cadence (the "Amen" cadence) that tries to ground us in E-flat major, but the resolution denies our wishes and returns to a C minor chord (the tonic chord). In summary, the entire chord progression is teasing us with the happiness of E-flat major, but it never delivers on its promise.

This song is so profound. To me, the theme is Death and how the sadness of the loss (the melody) is coupled with the hope that it also mean true freedom from our mortal existence. I recently lost someone very close to me, I find a strange and soothing comfort in this melancholic piece. Thank you for this music.

When I hear this song, I picture a scene of an old adventurer in his death bed. He reflects on all that he's done, the sights he's seen, and the companions that he made along the way. He also reflects on the people and things that stood in his way and had given him strife, but is at peace knowing that all of those misfortunes are well gone and pass. As he begins his last breath, he can't help but smile knowing that he accomplished so much in life and can finally feel peace in eternal rest. No worries, no regrets, just acceptance of his end. The end of his grand tale. Then again, maybe I just enjoy the idea of drifting off to Ashley's beautiful, soothing voice.

Hearing this song always almost makes me tear up, because it's so soothing, comforting, beautiful and inviting, but then I pay attention and remember the lyrics, and realize that this is a song about being dead. This song makes the concept of *_being dead_* feel inviting and even comforting. Bloody brilliant.

Mmm, such a sad, yet peaceful song. It feels like... the sense of dying, casting away the pettiness and pain of life, and residing peacefully within the afterlife. It makes me think of Eurydice's home in Asphodel, where she spends eternity in peace.

First time having the opportunity to play Hades and jeez...after all the sweating palms, entering the chamber I was ready to mash that space bar so hard and was surprised with this beautiful voice. Something so angelical and genuine that, looking around, it felt like that song just didn't belong there, in that hell-ish setting. I couldn't help but cry mao, just standing there for at least 10-15 min. Thanks, Supergiant, for this amazing experience that just keeps getting better

1st song in a game that I memorized the lyrics to simply because of the fact that it told a beautiful contrasting story. Orpheus's solo is filled with sorrow and somber which directly contrasts with Eurydice warm and solemn tone. Gotta love Supergiant Games for crafting such works of art
