I'd love general opinions on things like whether a run with Pom Blossom on from start to finish would be a good idea, mediocre, bad, etc., or a take on things like which boon to take against EM4 Hades, like whether a defensive option such as Evergreen Acorn, Broken Spearpoint, Lucky Tooth, Myrmidon Bracer, or even Old Spiked Collar are worth considering over offensive boons like Distant Memory, or a Pierced Butterfly run.

I thought I knew all I needed to about my approach to Hades runs, but you still surprised me! You made Privilaged Status seem very appealing to try out, since I didn't even realize that Jolted, Ruptured and things like that counted as curses. Also, I never noticed that there were gold laurel doors and blue ones, so that's interesting too. Excellent guide!

About Fated authority / persuasion : As you say, "you just have to meet that god again" if you miss your shot. I've grown accustomed to using Authority because it gives more boons overall during the run, by rerolling poms and health when not needed. The mindset is that, by having more boons (or more boons of a specific god), I also, in the end, increase the chance of getting what I'm looking for, all the while picking up other boons that are still useful. Also, Fated Authority is a run saver in some nice challenge runs (like "no olympians Hades").

Fated persuasion doesn't help you in the case that the god you need doesn't show up. If you need Dionysus attack and your doors are Ares and Demeter then fated persuasion does nothing and your stuck with adding one of them to your god pool. With fated authority you can reroll the door into something that won't take up a slot in your god pool. If you do get Dionysis but his attack isn't offered you can just take rare vintage or after party to lock him in to your god pool and try again when he shows up later.

@@MrGhosta5 Taking you example, I have Ares and Demeter on doors and want Dio : I've used Persuasion to change Ares or Demeter into something else, potentially Dio, or a Pom, or a Heart, which helps too. And on average, I'll end up with Dio's attack with more boons on the side. That's the feeling I have when playing, at least.

I live and die by Golden Touch + Chthonic Coin Purse in Tartarus. Staying thrifty early when the run is easy translates into huge pockets for late-run spending.

Yup. Golden touch is very easy to make more valuable than Deep Pockets. The first two levels are so easy anyways that You don't benefit from shop that much.

Id love an updated guide on a cast build like the one used with tidal dash and Zeus cast to get sea storm since it's no longer possible but it was a fun build so an alternative build would be great!

There's no darkness in the temple of styx the majority of the time. Maybe you can get it from a well of charon if you happen to come across one and the RNG works out for you, but relying on it for a health boost could be a bad time if you end up with a shakey build in the temple or the satyrs just really really hate you.

Not to mention that with the small chambers in the tunnels the 3 health from Cthonic adds up pretty quickly -- especially since you probably aren't taking damage in most of those.

I think Ruthless Reflex is actually a little bit underrated, if only because you can completely replace Greater Reflex with a single boon from Hermes. If you're planning on using a fast skirmishing build that dashes a lot, in particular the fists, you'll end up getting a lot of free triggers of Ruthless Reflex without ever intending to. Then if you get a Greatest Reflex boon from Hermes, especially if it's Rare or Epic quality, you're just objectively better off than otherwise.

Gilgamesh, though here i'd the Violette one for a Devestating Mercifull End Build. Doom Atack Divine Special Flood Shot Divine Dash Poseidons Aid Started with Bloodveil, changed to Owl, then to Clam and to Euridice Keepsake last i only took Poseidons Aid cause of a Prophecy, other wise i'd have taken Athena here as well. Still defeated Hades with Zero Hits Lol. Dou Boons were Ares×Poseidon, Athena×Ares I also had Athenas Legendary. I love Gilgamesh. Anihilated Dads second Healthbar in 30 sec.

What made me realize how good Ruthless is was playing with the Zeus boon that strikes on near-misses. It goes off constantly, the window of both range/time is pretty generous, and in Styx it will go off constantly. I'd reccomend trying that for anyone consider switching to Ruthless. The 50% damage boost is kind of an oversell, most damage stacks additively, and dodging has a similar thing- 50% dodge won't negate 50% of attacks, there's obviously many that can't be dodged (seems like most AoE attacks?). So it's nowhere near a +50% damage/defense boost. BUT that's still like a true 25% boost to attack/defense while active which is substantial. I feel getting even +1 dash makes Ruthless far better than Greater, and if I get an option for a +3 I'll be kicking myself if I don't have Ruthless. 2 dashes doesn't seem important in Tarturus, while Dice and Charon make it easy to obtain a Greatest Reflex before Lernie.

I like running Fiery Presence for certain speedruns - it helps one-shot normal room enemies. Also when I was first trying to get 32 heat, Privileged Status was the one that brought me over the edge!

I once noticed that exposed from athena can also trigger priveleged status. If you have athena dash with exposed boon and use it next to foes + demeter/dio/aphro attack it is instantly triggers the increased damage.

I've used stubborn defiance exclusively, because you can get the stubborn roots duo which constantly heals you. Really good duo, you can heal back to full in every room

Awesome guide once again. The only thing I feel strongly about is dark Regen over chthonic vitality. I just like having the control of picking a darkness room or buying it when I need it vs gaining default health each room that can often go unused. Lowering the rate of blue doors kinda hurts that strat but health is kinda fake anyways

I used fated authority once for a meme run to have a boon less run for the Hades dialogue. But otherwise I used fated persuasion. Great video!

I agree with your thoughts on deep pockets vs golden touch. Early on I think golden touch is really nice when you're trying to farm titan's blood to unlock/upgrade the different weapon aspects because they're so costly. Especially if it's something you're actively going for and getting things like side hustle from hermes, or going after obol chamber rewards, by the time you reach styx you easily hit over the 100 obol initial amount with deep pockets. Plus in the late game once you finish unlocking everything in the mirror, you can simply refund the darkness and put it into something else, so it's not like you lose anything really in the long run by using golden touch while you need it.

I can't believe nobody's brought this up- Hoarding Slash (Hammer buff for the Blade), maybe it isn't efficent/meta but can definitely work. Every 20 obols increases your base damage by 1, which is then boosted by your attack boons and general bonus to 2-3. (base blade has something like 25/30/40 base damage on its combo and 40 on its dash?). 1000 obuls will raise it by 50. If you start with GoldTouch, Cthonic Purse, and Bouldy Summon, and the first chamber offers a hammer- do it. Ideally you'd also get Posieden+Chaos reward boons, Side Hustle, Flurry Slash, Membership Card, then end with 2000 obols (and a few discounted but high-value purchases) and kill EM4 Hades in under a minute.

Re Privileged Status (11:40) My personal favorite build that I ever made worked out like this: * Aspect of Hestia * Rocket and ricochet hammer upgrades * Privileged Status * Poseidon attack boon * Artemis special boon * Zeus cast boon * Jolted boon * Rupture boon * Zeus/Poseidon duo boon (causes Poseidon's knockback to also inflict lightning) Every time I shot anybody, they were immediately hit with privileged status, and then I could crit them with Artemis. The main downside of this build is that, by the time it was fully up and running, I was just about walking out of the Temple of Styx, so I only really got to use it on Hades! So yeah, privileged status *can* work on the "slow" gods that don't give you immediate status curses, but you're not gonna have the full build for a significant portion of the run.

Death Defiance is just better imo since you can use it more than once per room. If you're in a bad spot 30% more health might not do the job but 150% will.

Bosses are the brick wall to pass for me, so DD helps a lot more. Some of the regular elysium fights are brutal but it's still not common for me to die there and there's a reasonable chance to find patroclus along the way.

Great to see you updating your Hades stuff,, your videos really helped me out when I starting playing. Blinding Exposure counts as a curse so if you have Athenas dash and dash through the enemy they get the curse kind of a weird interaction lol. Marked for death also counts as a curse but that doesn't stay up long. I always run Privileged Status because of that. It's not real hard to get the set up to keep it up.

One of the obscure uses I found for Stygian Soul was with zagreus aspect rail. For that build, you go Zues for the obvious synergy and because you're constantly shooting and kiting, it makes sense to have a cast you can add in periodically and not worry about retrieving.

i have found Stubborn Defiance as my best mirror option to have untill i have beaten hades like 10 times or so. it was an easy choice as well...aloweed me to make tons of mistakes on the way and i just loved having the choice of the 3rd region (Forgot the names sorry) that gave an additional 50% resulting in me having at least 80% going into each room and then taking skully for that extra defience at the end....best case i still had the buff from region 3 and i went into hades with 2 diefences of 80% felt really good to be honest. these days though (top heat only 6 sorry in advance still considered new), i like going with death defiance because if i die on the way it usually only happens once and i prob get it back till i get to hades (honestly lernie plus dashing into lavas most of the time lol with his smaller area)

Chaos is a Chthonic God, as shown by their location in the codex under that section instead of with the olympians on their dedicated page. Family Favorite should include anyone on the Olympian God codex page, and no one else.

Same here. I exclusively ran Fated Persuasion for the longest time, but recently did a total flip to Authority. I’ll still use FP sometimes with Underworld Customs …I tend to avoid that pact tho, even at 32 Heat. Having 100% control over your God pool is massive. I tend to focus my builds around multiple duos, so I really need specific Gods. And it sucks when Tartarus forces a god into your pool you have zero need for. Always seemed to happen once, usually twice each run.

Maybe it is just me, but Abyssal Blood is overlooked heavily, and can be very useful. It is basically the equivalent of a fully stacked Chill and Weak, and that’s actually fairly significant value. It can help cut down a sizable amount of damage you take from bosses and tougher enemies, and I believe it does stack with the actual god passives. I can understand why those who speedrun regularly wouldn’t take it over Boiling’s damage, but Abyssal can really help with counteracting Hard Labor and Forced Overtime, and make some fights much more manageable. Thanks for the Hades content Haelian, and I’d love to see an updated Weapons guide where you share any changed thoughts and opinions on them. See you in Hades 2! 😊

I totally agree, I think it’s super useful against forced overtime. Forced overtime 2 without a movement built on Arthur essentially requires abyssal to be able to put run EM Asterius.

I think you need to give Ruthless Reflex a bit more usage, it's surprising to me that a player with as many hours as you have seems to underestimate it. I use RR primarily for anything 25 heat or below (Hell Mode) and I really notice its effects, and like you said, without really thinking about it. Maybe it's my aggressive playstyle, but when I do go for GR for some 40+ Heat run, I notice the damage drop, and I also notice I get hit more because of that aggressiveness, RR dodge really prevents so much damage for me, and it really is a lot easier to trigger than you're making it sound, I'll see the "Near Miss!" message pop from dashing near stuff that wouldn't even have hit me anyway, even if I didn't dash, it's ridiculous how easy it is to keep it active. I will say tho, making it to EM4 Hades with just 1 dash if you don't get a Hermes one is indeed brutal, but in the end I find it worth it. My 2 cents.

I agree. When early access revealed the yellow mirror options, I was hesitant to give up my double dash, but when I read "50% dodge chance", I gave it a shot and haven't looked back.

It's not useless but it's still a downgrade in terms of dps on aspects where you rely primarily on repeated dash strikes, so e.g. swords, spears, fists. If you hit with dash strike twice, it's twice the damage vs dash striking once. Dealing +50% damage some of the time helps close that gap but it won't erase it completely, and GR makes going for + dashes or hyper delivery from Hermes both at least viable.

This is wild, I was not expecting to have such a different take on half of the perks as you. I RELY on Ruthless Reflex and Stubborn Defiance for my aggressive playstyle. After using the Near-Miss system to teach myself how to dodge most attacks in the game with Dash s, it's basically a near-constant 50% reduction in damage across the board, not even counting the +50% damage bonus. The lack of additional dash is much less of a concern when you don't need to get fully out of the way of attacks to Dash or Dodge them. That said, I do still die to Daddy Backhands since I still panic and Dash way too early when I see the warning circle.

Each run is harder and harder, so yeah I'd hope some of those are failures because that's how incremental difficulty and player skill work. Either that or you have inferred something incorrect about my progress in the game from incomplete information. I've beaten the game and reached the full ending multiple times on multiple save files, miss me with the "still" crap.

I don't think fated authority is that much worse than persuasion. I find a lot of my builds relying mostly on 2 gods, and the ability to force lots of zeus or artemis boons for example feels great. I also find that I often don't need health or gold, and rolling those rooms into more boons feels like it offsets having no control on what you're getting. Your point about importance of having a roll in room 1 did change my mind a bit tho

The thing is that if you don't get the exact boon you want you can just take a support boon and then try again when the god shows up later. Fated Authority lets you reroll gods so they don't take up a space in your god pool for the gods you need. If you need Dionysus attack but your only door is Ares then you can use fated authority to reroll the door into not being Ares. If you took fated persuasion then your stuck with Ares and can't get Dionysus attack now because Ares took his spot in the god pool. If you did find Dinysis but didn't get his attack you can just take after party or premium vintage and then try again when he show up later.

what Haelian doesn't mention that puts this in context is that the difference between Common and Epic rarity on a boon is typically just 1-2 levels from a Pom, and in a build where you are trying to pom the same core boon a lot, the diminishing returns from level increases make rarity less important. in my opinion, rarity is more important on tier 2 boons -- I'd much rather have epic than common on arctic blast or exit wounds since I don't want to have to pom them.

ruthless reflex is underrated. Stacks well w hermes buffs that you're already wanting to take and has insane dodge chance potential w zag aspect on the fists, it can get up to 78% dodge chance i believe.

Fiery Presence and High Confidence go a long way towards keeping the Guan Dao able to 1-shot things for most of the run. And since your spin attack can keep your health topped off, you don't have to be THAT confident to roll with it, especially when the Thick Skin's bonus is only half (or less if not max level) with it anyway.

I used to use deep pockets as a beginner but now i only use golden touch because I always end up getting more gold overall, sometimes wayyy more. Even a run where I end up using the shop more often or having to buy a defiance I end up getting more than 100 gold. sometimes I do find myself struggling early in certain runs so I may try deep pockets again.

interesting how you say Greater Reflex 99% of the time. At around heat 5-6 i decided to try Ruthless and never looked back (around 13 now). I trigger it all the time, i learned to keep my distance and dodge a lot better, and also that evasion, damn it's so good... works so well with Hermes "restore HP with dash" boon, because if you dash timely you get Ruthless Reflex, and if you dash late you get a bunch of HP back.

I used in my first 150 runs Golden Touch for farm, was nice. Maked more difficult the run sometimes, but worth it. Now since I don't need to farm Titan Blood I only use Deep Pockets.

For me, I like using Stygian Soul rather than infernal on “non-cast” builds because I find it easier to apply it to enemies to boost my attack and because I find it easier to use with something like ravenous will On cast builds, tho, I think it’s a bit too RNG reliant to try for a legendary boon or spending all your rolls on chaos Edit: Also, doesn’t Stygian stop the duo lightning rod from showing up? Not saying whether that’s good or not, but just another thing to consider if going for particular other duos

i never use golden touch, hermes has the boon “side hustle” which gives you 10+ gold at the end of a chamber, and each room in styx counts as a chamber so you can farm lots of currency there if you really want a diamond or titans blood

The problem with ruthless reflex and high confidence is that they require near perfection to see the benefits. Doesn't help that they're competing with double starting dashes and hp. Wish they worked more like privileged status where you simply don't see the benefits until you meet a condition, without getting penalized defensively for taking it over its counterpart. But I suppose the mirror needed an option for speedrunners wanting to trade all their survivability for that last bit of damage to get them the best clear time.

Not taking fated authority is insane. Unless you have a very specific boon you are looking for, the fact that authority allows you to go super deep on a god is too good to ignore. Beyond Privileged Status and Duo boons, gods don't really synergize with different gods while they have excellent synergy with their own boons, so if you max that personal synergy you will have far more power overall. +you can always just restart the first chamber to get whatever boon you are looking for so thats never an issue.

Nah, fated authority is trash. Just use the god keepsakes for tartarus and asphodel, and you can get basically what you need. It's really frustrating imo when you start a run and the boon you want doesn't even show up, or when you meet the requirements for a duo or boon or legendary and it doesn't give it to you. Having the ability to reroll is way better than rolling a random door.

Thanks for the cool video! There are 2 things I've been wondering about with some of those mirror choices, though: 1) Would you play Fated Authority for a boonless run to reroll whenever the game tries forcing you into taking a boon? Does it even work that way, or is it guaranteed to just offer you another god? 2) Is Golden Touch worth it when I see an early Hoarding Slash with the sword?

1. If you're being shown only miniboss chambers ahead, you have to take a boon. Rolling those doors will only change which gods are offered. 2. Well you'd have to know ahead of time that you're doing a Hoarding Slash run some how but yes it would be decent.

I prefer Golden Touch as long as I'm trying to obtain Titan's Blood from the final shop. I'm not speed running the game and I tend to avoid high heat runs, so I don't need to spend my moneh on the wells.

I always use Golden Touch over Deep Pockets because I realized I almost always get more gold out of it. Since the first levels in a run is easier (Tartarus/Asphodel), I try not to use any gold in those regions but save up to be powerful enough to defeat Hades instead. And that way Golden Touch is always better.

In that case, Golden Touch is almost certainly win-more for those builds. Gold is most important in Tartarus and Asphodel to help get your build up and running. That extra gold early is the difference between affording a key boon or pom at the midshop in Tartarus. It also lets you choose heart or pom over gold room as well. Once you start adding heat and stuff becomes more expensive, that extra gold early is nearly mandatory. I only run Touch if I'm trying to buy the Blood/Diamond in the Styx shop. Yes, Touch does generate >100 gold over a normal run, but all gold is no equal. 100 Gold in Tartarus is much more impactful than an extra 100 Gold in Styx

Sounds like you are early game and not going on higher heat runs? For clearing base game, once you get experienced and understanding of how to stack boons correctly for builds, there's practically no risk of losing, even on some super shitty low roll runs I've had. I'd say even up to 5 (smartly picked) heat on most aspects felt easy to me - but some aspects are more painful or luck based. As you turn it up into "serious gamer" levels, early game often makes or breaks your runs due to need of quickly searching and "shaping" a cohesive build, especially for some very skill dependent aspects. The fact your can reach Hades so easily while hoarding gold, means you most likely could've defeated Hades without spending all those money you got from Golden touch to begin with -> if you just learn the basic patterns of hades and not brute force the fight. Let us know your thoughts on this again once you reach heat 10 and/or have cleared the game 30+ times. Btw, this isn't meant as "git good son". If you are legitimately struggling to consistently beat hades without higher heat, the biggest difference maker is absolutely not in Golden Touch vs Deep Pockets. You gotta learn boon builds / tricks and play styles / techniques for each aspects, especially for elysium and styx and Hades. I can use any aspect and run a 0-heat clear without buying anything except some health. That's not a big deal or key to success at that level.

@@slbaaron Well I do have around 30 clears by now so not that early. But I only increase by one heat every time, as that's when I get new titan bloods and diamonds. Highest heat I have done is 8 with the rail, which is the easiest. When I enter styx I may have around 1000 gold and then I will buy either the diamond or the extra titan blood. It depends if I think I have a good chance or not.

There's just the one Mirror, keep speaking to Nyx to unlock the green side (you have to do a lot of attempts before she gives it to you).

they aren't offered. If you're interested in that you can always (c) open codex and then (b) look at a gods boon, it has the requirements in the top right, including mirror requirements like stygian soul or stubborn/death defiance for example. Patroclus also offers a different first option

It’s actually very interesting and a little glitchy. If you have used your stubborn defiance in a chamber and then get Athena’s death defiance boon it will give you a regular DD that you’ll keep until you use it. If you haven’t used SD in the chamber then it will simply do the effect described (eg increase health restoration on SD use or give invulnerability on SD use). If you watch some of Haelians high heat runs you should be able to see it in action

Golden touch is so good. Golden touch can give you 40 to 70 gold every floor consistently. Way better than 100 gold. That's not even enough for a boon in the first floor. Use golden touch.

Fated authority is better then fated persuasion. Fated persuasion is useless if you can't get the gods you need to show up. You might not get the exact boon you want on your first pick but the god will be in your god pool and you can try again when they show up later. If you need Demeter, Artemis, Zues, and Dionysus but Aphrodite and Ares are your only options then fated persuasion does nothing and now you're build is ruined because you have to drop one of your gods for a god that doesn't fit your build. I like golden touch over deep pockets because it means i can buy more boons, hammers, and palms during the run.

I use Stygian 90% of the time. I'm legally blind and finding those little bastards is a pain in the eye. First thing I tell blind people when they play Hades: Prioritize Death Defiance. Second thing: Get Stygian Soul ASAP!

They come back to you after some time if you don't collect them, and some cast based aspects which let you load the cast are way more powerful when you can do 3 at a time. Ares Cast, Festive Fog, Demeter Cast etc or any stationary cast is way better with 3 of them. Not to mention boons of chaos or Hermes that give you + 1/+2 etc

A few humble opinions: Abyssal Blood is underrated, slowdown effects are really good when you're doing higher heat and you're not perfectly comfortable with dodging boss attacks, especially when you're facing EM4 dad with any amount of Forced Overtime. Ruthless Reflex is a nice pair of training wheels for intermediate players that want to learn perfect dodging, it also gives you a decent fail safe for when you eventually mess up. It also goes well with Lightning Reflexes, although with that, you would still be begging for Hermes to give you more dashes. Finally, Privileged Status always has more potential than Family Favorite (WITHOUT AN 'S' AT THE END, it's YOU that is the singular family favorite *sorry this was bugging me* ). If you're going for Zeus/Artemis/Poseidon then sure, take that 5% per god, you can even get 30-35% (even 40% with some luck) total damage if you wanna force even more gods to appear after you've hit the 4 god cap, but in any other circumstance P-Stat is higher and more reliable damage that you have the potential to set up much earlier (in the first 4-5 chambers) rather than waiting until mid/late Asphodel for a flat 25% boost. It's all personal preference at the end of the day, but these are my observations.

That Abyssal Blood opinion made my brain explode. Boiling Blood is terrible on so many builds. Even on builds where your damage is coming from your attack or special, it only stacks additively with the % increase from your boons, so it's increasing your actual damage by way less than 50%. Abyssal Blood, on the other hand, is 30% damage reduction from bosses for the low low cost of making sure to keep at least one cast in them. If you are extremely skilled at the game and only care about having the absolute highest DPS possible for Tight Deadline 3, and your survivability strategy is "just don't get hit", then sure, take Boiling Blood. For everyone else, there's Abyssal.

Golden touch is almost always the better option if you do the math. Early 100 coins with golden touch compounds itself by 1.15 up to 40 times, meaning you'll quickly be earning massive income of 50 plus per room. You're basically trading the ability to buy a couple items in tartarus for the ability to buy several boons that prepare you for the final boss.

Golden touch applies at the end of regions, not for each room. So triggers 3 times during the run, not 40.

That gold is more valuable in Tartarus though because you can buy key boons earlier, which means you can pom them earlier before your boon pool gets clogged with boons you don't want to pom. It also means that if you see a god you really want in a Tartarus shop, you can buy it and get that god in your pool. 100 gold in Tartarus is not worth the same as 100 gold in Styx.

There's a trade off between setting up and getting a build "on line" (all the necessary components for a build are there) sooner rather than later. If you're doing low to mid levels of heat, you have more time to get your build going since the encounters aren't that difficult. Getting what you need for a build by Elysium is fine because the biggest obstacles are likely going to be the end fight with Hades and the heroes fight. But once you start adding/maxing out forced overtime, hard labor, jury summons, and approval process, your run can end pretty quickly if your build isn't where it needs to be way before you even get to the final shop just by normal enemies. So it's worth it to have the money (and the rolls) early on to get what you need for your build early
